Tampa Is Seen as Social

TAMPA, Fla. — Jill and Scott Kelley moved here about a decade ago, taking up residence in a huge redbrick home with a spectacular view of the water on Bayshore Boulevard, the city’s most fashionable street. They quickly established themselves as social hosts to the powerful four-star officers who run two of the nation’s most important military commands. Comments:
Interesting back story to the social culture in Tampa vis-a-vis the important military commands there. The Kelleys cultivated the senior officers - including Petraeus and his wife - and there was reciprocal entertaining.

Looks like this daughter of Lebanese immigrants by making a federal case over some e-mails that advised her "I know what you are doing" and "Stay away from my guy" was able to bring down General Petaerus and possibly General Allen. Not even the mighty Taliban was able to do that.

You have to wonder how all this is going to be interpreted by the enemy, propagandized, and played out on the battlefields of Afghanistan and the Middle East.

Even as fools walk along the road, they lack sense and show everyone how stupid they are. Ecclesiastes 10:3

Not surprising that arrogance has brought to light the darkness that destroys families and countries. This is the life of the "elite". They become so impressed with themselves that they look at any wisdom life may have taught them in the rear view mirror as they "work the room" among wanna be elites, pretending that their overspending trying to impress, will not reveal that they are no differnt than those beneath them except in one regard...wisdom tells you who and what is really important and your financial limits.

While the spectacle of the world´s most expensive Olympics, with its inflatable St. Basil´s, technical glitches, unceremonial slip-ups and surreptitious signs of protest, had a global audience captivated, all eyes were on the torch bearers, in particular, gymnast Alina Kabayeva, who also happens to be President Vladimir Putin´s girlfriend. Putin had earlier refuted suggestions that Kabayeva would be afforded the special privilege of wielding the Olympic torch at the opening ceremony. "I´m aware of this [speculation that Kabayeva will light the flame]," he said. "I was told of this by [Kremlin spokesman] Dmitry Peskov. These are the usual red herrings.

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia – This time around, the judges gave Sage Kotsenburg the score he deserved. And Kotsenburg gave the United States the first gold medal of the Sochi Games. Kotsenburg, the 20-year-old from Park City, Utah, stomped a 93.5 on his first run of the inaugural Olympic slopestyle contest and watched it hold up in a massive upset. As top competitors Max Parrot and Mark McMorris of Canada faltered, Kotsenburg took advantage with an array of technical tricks like the Japan air and a double nose-grab. BERLIN — Germans were already smarting from revelations that U.S. intelligence listened in on the phone conversations of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Then came Nulandgate. On Thursday, a video was posted on YouTube in which Victoria Nuland, the top U.S. diplomat for Europe, disparagingly dismissed European Union efforts to mediate the ongoing crisis in the Ukraine by bluntly saying, “F--- the E.U.” On Friday, Merkel, through press attache Christiane Wirtz, described the gaffe as “absolutely unacceptable,” and defended the efforts of Catherine Ashton, the E.U.’s foreign policy chief.

SOCHI, Russia – From the gently rolling Black Sea to the jagged Caucasus Mountains, from gleaming modern stadiums to colorfully ancient Matryoshka dolls, the Sochi Olympics open Friday with every conceivable natural wonder except one. There is a visible lack of joy. The strong-armed dream of Russian President Vladimir Putin has thus far succeeded not in embellishing the Olympic motto, but altering it, from ´´swifter, higher, stronger´´ to, "unfinished, unsettling and uninviting.´´ Along the cramped streets in the Adler neighborhood above Olympic Park, the locals keep their heads down and their expressions grim as they walk through a shopping district

But in addition to the privacy issues, a Twitter post shows Sochi bathroom goers may have a whole other set of rules to contend with while doing their business. The six-paneled placard illustrated five bathroom don´ts in addition to the proper throne-sitting do. Fishing, of course, is out. Bowing to the porcelain gods is verboten. SAN FRANCISCO — Amazon investors might have finally heard the news they have been waiting for: The retailer is raising shipping fees. Amazon has 237 million active customers but as a general rule makes almost no profit. Thursday’s announcement that the company was considering raising prices by as much as 50 percent on its $79 Prime shipping program could mean $500 million for its skimpy bottom line. “This is the first time we’ve ever seen Amazon flex its muscles in terms of pricing,” said Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray. “It’s hugely significant.”

It is one of the most common - albeit, ineptly used - elements of the English language. Now, an American academic has suggested that the comma could be abolished as a punctuation mark. Professor John McWhorter claims removing commas from most modern U.S. texts would cause ´little loss of clarity´ - meaning they may now be in a state of obsolescence. He adds that internet users are becoming increasingly carefree in their use of the punctuation mark - with some professional writers following suit, according to The Times. ´[You] could take them out of a great deal of modern American

SAN ANTONIO — We recommend incumbent John Cornyn for the GOP´s U.S. Senate nomination, based on unmatched experience and decades of service to Texas. The theme among a bevy of challengers seems to be that Cornyn is a CINO, a conservative in name only. This is not just counter-intuitive but counter-factual. Various ratings — liberal and conservative — have agreed on one thing, Cornyn´s conservative credentials are genuine. Not conservative? Cornyn is No. 2 in Senate leadership and diverged only slightly from the conservative playbook in a year in which he offered a measure that would further beef up security at the

Democrats from President Obama on down have been touting Obamacare´s sign-up numbers. Even after the system´s disastrous rollout, they like to point out, roughly three million people have signed up for private insurance, while 6.3 million have signed up for Medicaid. On top of that, she will present a daunting challenge to the GOP candidate, no matter whether the nominee is “establishment” or “grassroots” or from the Planet Ork. The emergence of Twitter as a social media goliath has unleashed gossip and speculation as a media force. The long term consequences are unknowable, but in the meantime, with a far left president with a dicey past, it is producing some highly amusing results. Last night, President Obama explained to Bob Costas of NBC Sports why he wasn´t attending the Sochi Olympics, but the substance of what he had to say was lost in the controversy that erupted on Twitter over whether or not he was stoned. Yahoo writer Mike Oz took the high road, as would nearly any journalist, and described the president as looking "sleepy."
