On Nov. 10, under heavy pressure from other students as well as the administration, the College Republicans at Jesuit-affiliated Fordham University cancelled a lecture by conservative political commentator Ann Coulter. The appearance had been scheduled for Nov. 29 at the school’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, New York.

More proof the light of freedom is going out all over America and the jack-booted thugs, once ascendant in all our institutions, are victorious.

FTA President McShane had this to say: "Her rhetoric is often hateful and needlessly provocative — more heat than light — and her message is aimed squarely at the darker side of our nature.”
Is it me or did he just describe our newly re-elected president? Bet he wouldn´t use those words if POTUS came to campus to give a speach. These Repub students should have either found a better speaker (and there are many) or held to their guns and kept Coulter.

FTA: "Vavala concedes that free speech is a right, but argues that Coulter has made a career out of insulting various minority groups."

And so the only conclusion that can be drawn is that free speech at Fordham is a right no more.

I remember the Catholic church when they were people of character. Their colleges and universities are no different than any secular school except in the tuition rates they charge. They stand for nothing.

Why mess with Fordham? They are legends only in their own minds. Prejudiced from the word go.

They cain´t hep it!

Their little brains can´t survive intellectual challenge.

And, they´ve just proved that they don´t know anything about the use of rhetorical devices like exaggeration, and they prove that they don´t read the books they condemn.

They´re ignoramuses. And the Repubs should have stood their ground by making the argument for vigorous intellectual debate. Every time Repubs or Conservatives back down, more ground is ceded to the Left.

The Left wins by piggish bullying.

Sarcasm (a la Ann Coulter) is now being confined to use only by Democrats, because in the hands of Constitutionalists (a better term I think than "republican" or "libertarian" to describe what we need to be) sarcasm is "hateful" and "unnecessarily provocative."

We are truly at a crossroads on free speech.

There are plenty of Republican speakers available. Coulter´s recent comments about "retards" were over the line. When called on it, she doubled down instead of acknowledging that there was no reason for her to speak like that.

Her comments were as stupid as Akin´s. If she can´t see that, then she deserves to lose attention.

This kind of closed-minded dogmatism and censorship of opposing views is childish and sinister. It is a good example of what is wrong with American universities and why they produce drones to work and vote for characters like Obama and the Clintons. Once upon a time children went to college to expand their mental horizons and acquire a truly liberal education and point of view. That has all changed, as disgraceful episodes, of which this is merely the latest, continue to remind us. There do not seem to be any adults in charge of American universities any longer. Students seem to attend university thinking they already have all the answers and are there to teach the grownups the facts of life, social justice, international relations, etc. It would be funny if it were not ruinous.

The posters here have it exactly right. The Jesuits are Marxist to their core. My brother is a Jesuit, and I´m constantly getting lectured about the evils of war and how ashamed he is to be an American. (Funny, he never mentions abortion, though.) I once asked him what country did it right if we were so bad, and he gave me that "does not compute" look that liberals give you when you put them on the spot. I was then told that "it wasn´t that simple." The pastor at the local Jesuit univeristy church once gave a sermon about how both pro-life and pro-choice people are concerned about the sanctity of life. The congregation applauded him with those defiant liberal looks on their faces. I confronted him after mass and asked him what he meant and he defensively continued to lecture me on pro-choice Catholics. The Jebbies just couldn´t hide their glee when Obama ran for office. I used to substitue the word "Obama" for "Hosana" when we would sing that part of the mass. Finally, I quit going. I just couldn´t take it anymore.

But now I *must* wonder if these sources have been misleadingly edited.

He had arrived for his shift promptly at 3pm after filling up his gleaming silver Toyota Rav 4 with gas and taking out the trash at his modest two-storey yellow clapboard house in a downtrodden Massachusetts neighbourhood. This a fascinating glimpse into the life of Onyango ‘Omar’ Obama, 68, the half-uncle of Barack Obama - and an illegal immigrant who Mitt Romney has already signalled should be deported if he wins his bid for the Presidency today.
