Customs officials in Thailand seized 600 deadly cobras destined for Laos after stopping a vehicle at a checkpoint. Customs officials say the snakes came from Malaysia and were being shipped through Thailand for use in medicine or for food, SkyNews.com reports. Officials reportedly worked off a tip and set up an X-ray checkpoint in Pranburi, a city south of Bangkok. "The Bureau of Investigation and Suppression have been tracking this case for a year," Benja Louichareon, head of Thai customs, told SkyNews.com. "It´s a lot (of snakes)," she said. In May, officials seized 4,300 cobras, SkyNews.com reports.

Malaysia gets rid of a lot of poisonous snakes, another country feeds its people and makes some medicine. I don´t see a problem. I guess Thailand just wanted custom´s money.

NEW YORK — The FBI says a package at John F. Kennedy International Airport that was tested after two customs workers reported they felt ill after opening it contained beauty supplies. FBI spokesman J. Peter Donald said Sunday the package was tested and it was determined to contain beauty supplies only. He said agents have cleared the scene. He said the employees and the package were tested and screened out of "an abundance of caution." The FBI testing followed some initial tests that indicated a possible cause for concern.

The 3-year-old girl wandered away from her grandmother´s home in Wareham, Mass., in mid-April. A frantic search began almost immediately, and within an hour little Alyvia Navarro was found unresponsive in a nearby pond. She was pronounced dead the next day. A month later, across the continent, a larger search unfolded over three days as hundreds of emergency service personnel and volunteers fanned out around Clearlake, Calif., looking for 9-year-old Mikaela Lynch after she vanished from her backyard. The outcome grimly echoed the Wareham search: A dive team found Mikaela´s body in a muddy creek. The two girls

BOSTON - The atmosphere in Zimbabwe after the reelection of strongman Robert Mugabe is not one of great celebration, but of tension. Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, the main challenger, says he will not join in a new governing coalition but is contesting the credibility of the July 31 vote in court. (Snip) The chief Anglican bishop in Zimbabwe, Chad Gandiya, this week accused a renegade clergyman and friend of Mugabe of restarting a campaign using brutality, the courts, and police to seize churches, orphanages, and missions owned by mainstream Anglicans.

ALGIERS/LONDON - Inquiries into the bloody assault on an Algerian gas plant are uncovering increasing evidence of contacts between the assailants and the jihadis involved in killing the U.S. ambassador to Libya nearly a year ago. The extent of the contacts between the militants is still unclear and nobody is sure there was a direct link between the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and the carnage at In Amenas, where 39 foreign hostages were killed in January. But the findings, according to three sources with separate knowledge of U.S. investigations, shed some light on the

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Friday he was reassessing the relationship with Russia because of a growing number of issues on which the two countries differ, and he lamented what he called his mixed success in trying to convince Russian leader Vladimir Putin to abandon a Cold War mentality. At a news conference while senior officials from the U.S. and Russia put a brave face on badly strained relations between Washington and Moscow, Obama said Putin´s return to the Kremlin last year had brought about "more rhetoric on the Russian side that was anti-American, that played

Moscow - President Barack Obama´s decision to cancel a planned Moscow summit with President Vladimir Putin next month was brought on by a wide spectrum of US frustrations with Russia, not least of which was its decision to grant temporary asylum to fugitive ex-National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. But another issue, one that´s just beginning to come into public focus, may carry the long-term potential to do far more damage to Mr. Putin´s and Russia´s already deteriorating image in the West. That is the widespread impression, based on a new Russian law that bans "homosexual propaganda,"

To most people, climate change means melting snowcaps and helpless polar bears sweltering under escalating temperatures. But most of the world’s populations aren’t likely to see an iceberg in their lifetimes, much less a stranded polar bear in the wild. Which explains why the dangers of these environmental changes haven’t exactly earned high priority on most people’s list of attention-worthy crises. MOSCOW — Russia on Wednesday faced a mounting campaign against its hosting of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi after passing what campaigners called "barbaric" anti-gay legislation, six months before the opening of its biggest ever sporting event. British actor Stephen Fry called for Russia to be barred from hosting the Games in the Black Sea resort while gay rights campaigners handed over a 320,000-signature petition to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) urging it to condemn the law. Russian President Vladimir Putin in June signed into law legislation that punishes the dissemination of information about homosexuality to minors

Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest entertainers in the world, thanks to her willdly successful 25-season run on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and her latest media foray with the newly revitalized Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The entertainer earned an estimated $77 million from June 2012 to June 2013 alone, according to Forbes, but she says she still experiences racism because she is African American. But he also criticized what the campaign had initially wanted him to say in robocalls. “They gave me this most pathetic thing to say. I said,

During a press conference yesterday, President Obama revealed the existence of a sealed indictment in the Benghazi attacks in Libya on September 11, 2012, leaving some experts questioning whether the president broke the law. Federal law states that ´no person may disclose [a sealed] indictment´s existence,´ and that doing so may be ´punished as a contempt of court,´ a charge that carries a minimum sentence of six months prison. The announcement came as a surprise to some insiders, as the existence of a sealed indictment has not been publicly confirmed or denied by law enforcement or
