| House Democrats are beginning their push for an extension of expanded federal unemployment benefits before more than 2.1 million workers lose them at year´s end. Ways and Means panel ranking member Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) and Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) released a committee report on Monday arguing for quick action to extend benefits before they expire Dec. 29. “We cannot forget the human cliff looming for more than two million Americans scheduled to lose their economic lifeline during the upcoming holidays," Levin said. "Failing to act would push millions of middle class

It was due to your total incompetence that we have yet to have an "economic recovery", therefore so many people on unemployment benefits. All this extension would do is provide the progressive/socialists with more "dependents" that will not vote against the hand that feeds them.

Go ahead. Let them extend unemployment benefits as long as they want. 99 weeks should be a good start. While we´re at it, the Republicans should propose increasing food stamp eligibility to 500% of the poverty level and give Medicare/Medicaid to everyone, regardless of income.
If liberals want everyone dependent on government, let´s give it to them. This will be the only way to prove that the only thing worse than not getting what you want is getting it.

While we work harder to keep our jobs and now we are taxed more (thanks to voters in California and soon Obama on the national scale), and the value of our real income is falling like a rock as prices for everything (but eapecially necessities, like food, gas, utilities, etc.) climb faster than the Weimar Republic...WE get to support these people who can´t find a job after 4 years. And to think, we almost stopped this mess last week had it not been for the leeches, idiots, ideologues and tons of voter fraud. There is no America anymore.

In Silicon Valley, the employee perks are the stuff of legend. Parents-to-be at Facebook are given a bonus to help with expenses and extensive maternity and paternity leave. Software company Evernote will pay to have their employees apartments cleaned twice every month. And Google — perhaps the most generous when it comes to fringe benefits — lavishes its employees with free concierge service and a cafeteria chock full of gourmet food. While these benefits are partially a product of the intense competition for qualified tech workers, they may also be a way for companies to simply increase compensation

The state health exchanges that are central to the U.S. Affordable Care Act are costing the federal government more than twice its initial budget to complete. The Obama administration expects to have spent $4.4 billion in fiscal 2012 and 2013 on grants to states that are building new marketplaces to sell subsidized health insurance, according to budget proposals released today for 2014. A year ago, the administration had anticipated spending about $2 billion. Including grants the administration expects to make in 2014, costs for the state-run exchanges will reach about $5.7 billion. The budget overrun doesn’t include

SAN FRANCISCO — California lawmakers are considering taking some tax exemptions away from youth groups that do not accept gay, transgender or atheist members — a move intended to pressure the Boy Scouts of America to lift its ban on gay Scouts and troop leaders. Some cities have withdrawn free rent and other subsidies from the Boy Scouts over the years, but legislation introduced by state Sen. Ricardo Lara would make California the first state to target the Scouts for its anti-gay policy. The Long Beach Democrat´s bill, SB 323, is scheduled for its first committee hearing on Wednesday.

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
