As an old saw has it, "your right to swing your fist ends at the tip of my nose." The Obama administration says your right to live as a Christian ends if you go into business. Democrats are crowing about a second Obama term, and the Left´s culture-war troops are emboldened by their trouncing of social conservatives. Religious conservatives need to plant their spears and brace for the coming federal assault on religious liberty. The Obama administration this month, in defending its health plan´s contraception mandate, articulated a narrow view of the First Amendment´s religious liberty protections.
Comments: I wasn´t aware of all the nasty comments from tolerant liberals from Mother Jones, The WaPo religion writer, etc. We´re allowed to believe ( for now), just don´t talk about it, because our belief offends liberals. We are in for some dark days ahead, which makes Christian support of Obama all the more baffling.
The morning after the election three black ladies stood in the office of my school and sang, "Let the church say Amen, God has spoken", over and over and over. I was absolutely disgusted - then I thought, yes, God has spoken, but I don´t think He said what they think He said.
How "church" people can support a party that stands against so many biblical principals and stands against our religious liberties is beyond me - they put skin color above all else - and I wonder just how many of the black churches really teach Rev. Wright´s theology!!!
I used to help one of the women with her many church projects (designing and printing labels, invitations, tickets for fund raisers, etc.) and donate all my time and materials - guess what - NO MORE!!! This showed me what I was contributing to and it ENDED WEDNESDAY MORNING, NOV. 7.
Cry me a river. The so-called faithful voted for an anti-religious candidate and the lunatic social conservatives gave the Senate back to Harry Reid. At least the Islamicists live the courage of their convictions. No wonder Muslims are gaining converts throughout Europe. Next up, the Catholics will cut a deal on Obamacare. Sure, they´ll have to perform abortions and euthanize the elderly and sick, but then they´ll be able to concentrate on what is really important - social justice.
This has been coming since the passing of Obamacare. Now the Catholic Church will be forced to decide whether their schools and hospitals will obey the dictates of this law or whether they will surrender their beliefs.
Cardinal George in Chicago pointed to the diocesan directory with pages listing charitable institutions saying those pages will be blank unless the mandate is overturned. I would hope he sticks with this. Obama may want to take over all charitable work but it will have all the success of the green economy ( Solyndra etc ) Even if the government buys out all the Catholic hospital facilities at a discount price they can never operate them as efficiently because there is no substitute for dedication. Put a Unionized Civil Service staff running the hospitals after they manage to run the post office well. This is another part of Obamacare with coverage for all and treatment for none.
#3 Wish you knew who you were supplying the free goodies to prior to the election. But all of us are suckers in one way or the other. My tithing decreased significantly to our parish when we realized the majority went to social justice programs for the "inner cities" who in turn are spreading propaganda to the minority communities. Our money will go directly to a person or family that we can help immediately. Christmastime gives us alot of openings to do just that.
(continued) maybe if the 19,650 people who voted for Obama over Romney in Philadelphia were not guaranteed their "goodies", they would think twice about who their vote goes to. Let them figure out where their next handouts will come from.
Matt Damon will speak passionately in support of America´s public school system and their teachers - but he won´t send his children there.Opening himself up to accusations of hypocrisy, the Hollywood actor, famed for his left wing politics, revealed his ´moral dilemma´ in an interview published over the weekend - and bizarrely blamed his decision on the fact that public schools aren´t ´progressive´ enough. Revealing he is to move to Los Angeles from New York, Damon, 42, claimed he didn´t ´have a choice´ when it came to his four daughters being enrolled into private schools there
President Obama will travel to Desert Vista High School in Phoenix next week to highlight housing and the middle class. The speech, scheduled for Tuesday morning, would be the latest in a series of talks on the progress made and the challenges that remain as the U.S. slowly recovers from a recession. It revisits themes that Obama spoke about during his first presidential visit to Arizona in February.(snip)Obama has delivered campaign-style speeches in the past two weeks on investing in infrastructure, lowering the cost of college loans and overhauling the tax code
President Barack Obama privately told Democratic senators Wednesday he is now personally involved in resolving a heated dispute over how Obamacare treats Capitol Hill aides and lawmakers, according to senators in the meeting. The president’s commitment was delivered at the beginning of Obama’s remarks to Senate Democrats during a closed-door session. At issue is whether Obama’s health care law allows the federal government to continue to pay part of the health insurance premiums for members of Congress and thousands of Hill aides when they are nudged onto health exchanges.
For incoming NBC News boss Deborah Turness, the task of turning around the embattled news division just got tougher. “ABC World News With Diane Sawyer” scored a narrow victory over “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” last week, breaking his 243-week winning streak. Sawyer beat Williams among viewers 25-to-54 years old, the most important category for advertisers on news. Coverage of the George Zimmerman trial and the birth of the royal baby helped “World News” win by a narrow margin of 38,000 viewers. ABC drew 1.917 million viewers, compared with 1.879 million at NBC.
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. According to a report published Monday in the
A Thai couple who were struck and killed by lightning had gone to the Grand Canyon as part of their honeymoon, according to the cousin of the man who died. Aram Kawewong and Ratchaya Tantranon had traveled to the United States from Thailand and were killed July 23 by a single bolt of lightning at a LeFevre Scenic Overlook on Arizona 89A in northern Arizona. Jeralynn Kozak, from Green Acres, Fla., said she is the cousin of Kawewong. She said the couple were married July 10 and were near the Grand Canyon as
There was no conciliatory phone call, no heart-to-heart talk to soothe the tensions. No one knows exactly when President Barack Obama and Republican Sen. John McCain went from bitter rivals in the 2008 presidential campaign and foes over health care and national security to bipartisan partners.Yet in recent months, an alignment on high-profile domestic issues — not to mention an eye on their respective legacies — has transformed Obama and McCain into Washington´s most unexpected odd couple. The Arizona senator is a regular visitor to the West Wing and in near-daily contact with senior White House officials.
Jane Fonda´s turn as Nancy Reagan has outraged fans of the former first lady but the actress says "The Gipper´s" wife is happy she landed the role. "I don´t think that whatever differences there might be in our politics really matters you know," says the actress in a new clip promoting the film ´The Butler´ which follows the life of a White House worker who served eight presidents. A vocal liberal, Fonda sparked outraged in the 1970´s when she toured North Vietnam, earning the moniker "Hanoi Jane" and critics blasted her casting as Nancy Reagan when it was announced
President Obama said reporters praise his economic proposals as “great” and tell him they are “all good ideas.”Obama made the remarks in a speech Wednesday in Galesburg, Ill., focused on the economy. The address didn’t include any new proposals on the economy, and Republicans criticized Obama for giving an address that was more of the same. But Obama said the news media often praises his ideas."It’s interesting, in the run-up to this speech, a lot of reporters say that, well, Mr. President, these are all good ideas, but some of you’ve said before; some of them sound great,
A few stars visited the White House on Monday to chat about Obamacare, the AP reports: Obama stopped by a private White House meeting Monday with celebrities including singer Jennifer Hudson and actors Amy Poehler, Michael Cera and Kal Penn. The White House says the artists expressed interest in helping spread the word about the health insurance marketplaces opening Oct. 1.The White House says Obama told the artists they could help reach young uninsured Americans who will be vital to his signature law´s success. Insurers need healthy young customers to help offset the costs of older, sicker consumers.
To African-Americans, President Obama just gets it.Obama’s notably personal comments on Friday about the verdict in the trial of George Zimmerman, and on race in America, struck a chord. They vividly underlined the fact that, for the first time, the person in the Oval Office has lived an African-American experience. To black supporters, that is more important than Obama’s inability to narrow racial inequalities during his four and a half years in office,
Chris Matthews spoke for “all white people” today, and apologized for unspecified transgressions committed by them. “I’ll just tell you one thing,” the Hardball host told his two guests. “And I’m speaking now for all white people, but especially [the ones] who’ve tried to change the last 50 or 60 years. And a lot of them really tried to change, and I’m sorry for this stuff. That’s all I’m saying.” He was addressing former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele and Val Nicholas, vice president and creative director at NBC News. The
In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes
For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.
Today, across Africa, Araby and Asia, from Nouakchott to Dhaka, the diplomatic facilities of the United States are closed. There’s a Tsarnaev out there, somewhere – could be the Mahgreb, the Levant, the Horn of Africa, the Indian sub-continent – who knows? So, as Richard Fernandez writes, “Shelter in place, this time globally.” Maybe it will work. Maybe by the end of the day there will be, unlike Benghazi a year on, men in custody. But if not? Daniel Pipes: Don’t know about you, but I find this pre-emptive cringing unworthy of a great country, even humiliating.
Not only should President Obama cancel a bilateral summit with "schoolyard bully" Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Sunday on "Face the Nation," but considering the country granted asylum to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, U.S. allies should try to move next month´s G-20 gathering from St. Petersburg. "President Putin´s behaving like a schoolyard bully, and in my experience, I´ve learned, unless you stand up to that bully, they ask for more and more and more," Schumer said. "He´s always going out of his way, President Putin is, to seem to poke us in
Common sense tells me that cops don´t need a Taser or a shotgun to subdue a 95-year-old man. When John Wrana was a young man, fit and strong and fighting in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, did he ever think he´d end this way? Just a few weeks shy of his 96th birthday, in need of a walker to move about, cops coming through the door of his retirement home with a Taser and a shotgun.
Police shot and killed an armed teen in the South Bronx early today after the suspect opened fire and refused to drop his gun, police said. Two rookie cops heard shots fired near East 151st Street and Courtlandt Avenue around 3 a.m. and ran in the direction of fire, police said. The uniformed officers saw Shaaliver Douse, 14, of the South Bronx, chasing another person through the streets, according to cops. Douse, who was arrested in May on attempted murder charges for shooting a 15-year-old, fired at the man running on East 151st Street this morning, police said.
In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus threatened to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for 2016 GOP presidential primary debates if the networks moved ahead with plans to air films on Hillary Clinton. “If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor,” Preibus said in a statement. In individual letters to CNN President Jeff Zucker and NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt,
Oprah Winfrey on Monday said the killings of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till are the "same thing." This transpired during an interview with The Grio that aired on NBC´s Today show. OPRAH WINFREY: It´s so easy during this time: Trayvon Martin, Trayvon Martin parallel to Emmett Till, let me just tell you. In my mind, same thing. But you can, you can get stuck in that and not allow yourself to move forward and to see how far we´ve come. Really? Martin and Till are the same thing?
Michelle Obama took to Twitter on Sunday to send her husband an affectionate birthday message -- and a gentle ribbing about the US President´s graying hair. "Happy birthday, Barack! Your hair´s a little grayer, but I love you more than ever," Michelle Obama wrote on her official twitter account, @FLOTUS. The message was accompanied by an undated black and white photo of the Obamas as a young couple relaxing on a sofa. Barack Obama is spending his 52nd birthday weekend at Camp David, the rural Maryland retreat made available to US Presidents. He was to return
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
