Well, it´s hard to keep up with emergency relief supplies when you have all those Red Cross zekutive positions that must be funded.

The Red Cross always reminds us to send cash, because it is so much easier for them to do the purchasing locally.

Except....supplies are often not available for local purchase after a major storm. I bet some of those folks taking the donation calls could have been re-assigned to order some supplies to be shipped in. They set up a place to hand out 400 packages of supplies, when tens of thousands are in need? What are they thinking?

There was beaucoup warning butt gov´t needs all it´s efforts focused on YOU..your beverage size, salt intake, smoking, carbon footprint . The money is spent on narrowing our car lanes with badly sited bike lanes, mini parks, bike racks..yada yada.. The ambulancesand fire trucks are much slowed.. Dangerously ao .. And there were few gas stations BEFORE rationing ...What you need mundane supplies like water, food shelter ,gas ?Fugetaboutit... We have important chic issues.... The Red Cross probably had more than enough supplies but a lot of people that picked them up did not need them but just showed up because the stuff was free.

I think that I am finally ´disaster fatigued´. I used to send something to most ´good´ causes...African famine, tsunami, earthquake.

No longer. My giving is confined to local causes, my church and The Salvation Army.

Obama wants the state to be master of all when it comes to disaster relief. He can have it now as far as I am concerned. Looks like the state is doing its usual bang-up job in NY, etc. S/off

Where is the New York/New Jersey National Guard? There should be more than enough Mess Trucks and Cooks available no matter what type of units they may have. Also water trucks, heavy equipment, ect.

There are some serious problems with the State and local response to this situation. The Red Cross hasn´t been sterling in this emergency but they are not the primary responder. The States and Local agency´s are.

I´ve had my fill of Professional do-gooders as opposed to true volunteers. They end up scoring a gig where they can feeeeeeel good about themselves, go to a lot of cocktail parties and do very little work. When their gig calls them to the plate in a crisis -- they fold, as they are not ready and not used to the heavy lifting required.

Some neighborhoods in New York are clearing up faster and better because the residents are taking personal action to remove themselves from the damage imposed upon them. Best wishes to them, they will be successful.

Other neighborhoods are still swimming in sea-water, mud, and decay because they are sitting around waiting for a handout. Best wishes to the weak among them, and for the otherwise able, we hope you rot. Cry and beg help from Nanny Bloomberg and the Obammunist.

Remember when the media was laughing at the Romney campaign for collecting and donating food and blankets? Remember when the Red Cross disdained them?

I don´t give to the Red Cross and I´m always disappointed when I see someone who should have better sense entreating people to give to them. They waste money as well as the government.

I only give to Salvation Army disaster relief. Lowest overhead, best on the ground. Unless I know of a good local organization, I go with SA every time.

In Seattle, the local ABC affiliate KOMO TV, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, has relief drives after a disaster. They ask people to come to the station´s parking lot where they can meet with the local newscasters who take the donations and they fill up two or three semi´s with food, water, blankets, clothing, cleaning supplies, even pet food. But not this time, all they´re doing now is asking people to donate to the Red Cross. Wonder why. s/off

The Red Cross really is incapable in the 21st c of more than localized [ie state relief].

The Red Cross´ relief efforts began following the 19th c Johnstown Flood, when there was no Nat. organization in place .............. let the Nat Guard, Reserves of US Military run relief.

The Military had to step in after Hurricane Andrew. It was the first time most Americans saw our citizens in So Florida living in 3rd World conditions. .......... days after the storm.

I refuse to bad mouth these NY´rs or NJ´rs just because they may have voted dem. From what I´ve heard Staten Island is a bastion of rep voters anyway. Had this not happened so close to a bitterly fought election I don´t believe politics would even be raised as an issue. These Americans didn´t ´´betray´´ us!

Their states should be in there giving aid and assistance and blankets, food, shelter. That´s where the breakdown is. Gov Cuomo should be moving Nat. Guard in - I think Christie may have already. New York is the biggest city in the country - I find it absolutely horrifying that they have not yet gotten this under control. Nanny Bloomberg doesn´t want anyone ´´carrying a gun´´ besides the NYPD so he´s turned down the Nat.Guard. Incredible.

I also believe a large part of this is union labor. For all we know, they´re ´´teaching a lesson´´. They have set hours including time for breaks. And they don´t work in the dark or the rain/snow. Additionally, LIPA has told customers that they require an electrician to sign off on a house before power is restored. There aren´t enough electricians to get this done. But I´d bet a buck that non-union electricians aren´t being allowed to work.

So many of our fellow Americans have been so conditioned to ´´the gov´t´´ doing for them that they seem to be unable to do for themselves and each other. It almost feels like we´re turning into a nation of pets who sleep by the wood stove and wait for the food bowl to be filled. There are those of us who don´t have a clue how to do for ourselves...

This was an out-of-control mob of "residents" who rushed the naive Red Cross workers and took [read: ripped off] all the supplies. That´s why they ran out waaaaay early.

Probably a lot of those "emergency kit" supplies are being sold on the black market now ... just like the "free gasoline" that was sent by the gubmint last week.

Gee, where is chrissy christie and his BFF obama? I thought they had each other´s phone numbers and could call 24/7 if "anything" came up and obama could "help". Sorry, I cannot feel a great deal of sympathy for blue state voters, though I wouldn´t wish what is happening to them on my worst enemy. They´ll get through it and continue to vote for demonrats. That´s on them. I´ll bet a lot of them wish President Bush was around with HIS FEMA disaster crew! At least then, the "msm" would be calling attention to their plight. #27, I am with you. These people are suffering and dying. They are my fellow Americans and I do not care who they voted for. Red Cross getting blasted cuz they are given free, prime time spots all over TV to brag on themselves constantly. So get the job done already. The RC is now a huge bureaucracy with too many Generals (making very nice paychecks) and too few soldiers ON THE GROUND!!!!! They get plenty of donations so get with it!!!!

27, 32, I appreciate the sentiment, but too late. These states sold out our country in the most important election in most of our collective lifetimes, and I am simply recommending they pray and bow down to the leader they adore like Christ. Ask him to deliver.

I am in California. Next time mudslides ruin the homes of liberal movie execs and "stars" that are stupid enough to build there, I am not going to lift a finger either. Their actor friends that threw Obama parties while Rome burned can reach out a hand. Maybe Beyonce and Sarah Jessica Parker can feed their starving flood ravaged friends some free birth control pills. And further, I won´t support asking our friends in say, Texas, for any funds or personnel help.

My fellow Californians--and New Yorkers and people in New Jersey, made their choices, and they can suck on them.

Blue state = no pity, and no donation from me. With my taxes due to increase soon here in California I must be more selective in donating to certain organizations. In the future my money will only go to veteran support groups.

I haven´t sent any money to Red Cross or United Way for years. I don´t even participate when my work place wants to do United Way event.

I´m very particular where my money goes.
