Both presidential candidates spoke grandly and with evident passion about an epochal choice that voters held in their hands, about a hinge of American history where, in the next four years, intractable problems would be confronted, transformative decisions made, and a new path irreversibly set for an economically weakened and militarily exhausted nation. Now that the polls are closed and the reckoning is nigh, President Obama does not have the comfort or convenience of shelving his campaign rhetoric. That talk about the big choice, about turning points, is actually true. Obama and the presidency’s vast institutional powers
I read this somewhere..the best idea is to let the House and Senate Republicans vote present, like 0bama...let 0bama implement his taxes...let the country fall off the fiscal cliff..let everything go to hell..then hang this whole legacy around every senate and rep who is running for reelection in2014..let Barry be known as the modern day Hoover...let him slink into obscurity as the worst president ever..then rebuild the country with solid coservatism..and when anyone ever tries to water it down say three words...Barack Hussein 0bama...
Yes, 0bama cannot blame this horrid economy on anyone else. He proposes more spending, raising taxes on everyone who pays, and he is printing 85 Billion Dollars a month, that would be over a Trillion Dollars a year. More people are receiving food stamps and medicaid than any time in history. I have never known so many friends who are out of work and just cannot find a job. Yet, Michelle treats herself to her many expensive, lavish, and luxurious vacations; she takes all her friends and relatives because she feels entitled. Many people out here are really suffering under the policies and regulations of 0bama and his administration. We are really frightened.
It seems the opinion from many quarters is to just let obummer go ahead , totally wreck the country than see how the democrat voters like the fruit bitter of their precious sheep in wolf's clothing. It will be hard to stand by and watch, but do it he will.
Caving on amnesty is not going to get the Republicans very many Hispanic votes. Why would those Hispanics who supported Obama and the liberal Democrats flip and start supporting the Republican after an amnesty passes? No reason that I know of. Besides there are new illegal aliens coming here all the time and a fence on the borderline is not going to stop them as most intending illegal aliens come here today with a temporary visa or a border crossing card, walk into the USA through an official port of entry, violate the terms of their admission by overstaying their visa or border crossing time limit, travel to the interior of the USA, purchase some fraudulent ID, and get a job or become involved in criminal activity or the illicit drug trade.
Once the Republicans start caving on amnesty, the liberal Democrats at the behest of their political allies the socialist oriented Hispanic activists and community organizers will keep expanding it and will demand another such amnesty every time there is an election.
Since the crown jewel of liberal Democrat amnesties is "a path to citizenship" which is liberal Democrat code speak for granting the legalized aliens duel nationality status and US voting rights, if the Republicans go along, they would be handing the liberal Democrats many millions of new voters and thus be committing long-term political suicide.
I´m so mad and angry at the libnut takers I can´t stand it. They are so dumb as to think and believe that zero is good for the country. Zero is the devil and he lives in DC. The country is in great peril and may be forever lost. Zero is the greatest enemy this country has ever had.
Now that many businesses are laying of employees, let´s hope the pain burns deeply for the libnuts.
With all the many lies and obfuscations perpetrated by this White House the one about whether the president knew or had met his “Uncle Omar” was a relatively minor one. Still it speaks volumes about how this administration — which obsesses in public about “transparency” — really operates. Onyango Obama had been living in Massachusetts illegally since the 1970s (a judge granted him legal resident status just last week). When he was arrested in 2011 for DUI and told police “I think I will call the White House,” media outlets asked the White House if the two men had ever met.
I owe Mitt Romney an apology. During the 2012 Republican presidential primary season, I repeatedly criticized Romney — and personally challenged him during his editorial board meeting with the Washington Examiner — for promising that if elected, on day one of his presidency, he would grant Obamacare waivers to all 50 states. As I reported, under the text of the law, the ability to offer waivers to states was subject to many restrictions and wouldn’t even be an option until 2017, four years after his hypothetical swearing in. Though I still believe I was right about what the statute said,
One interesting, but not always precisely reliable, measure of partisan preference is what pollsters call the generic vote -- which party´s candidates people would vote for in elections to the House of Representatives. Over the past two decades, responses have tended to underpredict Republicans´ performance in subsequent elections, though that was the case more in 1992-2002 than recently. The last two months have seen sharp shifts in the generic vote, as National Journal´s Charlie Cook notes, with Democrats peaking during the government shutdown in the first half of October and then a sharp swing to Republicans after the spotlight shifted
In 1970 the eccentric but insightful economist Albert Hirschman published a book called "Exit, Voice and Loyalty." It explored how people respond when a private firm´s or a government agency´s performance is deteriorating. Some people choose to leave, buying another product or service or leaving the government´s jurisdiction. Others use voice, complaining about defects or lobbying for change. Hirschman tended to deplore exit and exalt voice, and urged firms and governments to nurture loyalty so consumers and citizens would stick around and improve things. There´s obviously some relevance here to a current government program now performing far below even its detractors´ expectations: Obamacare.
One striking thing about the new White House Obamacare promotion campaign is that so far it hasn´t had much to say about the central focus of Obamacare, which is helping Americans buy affordable health insurance. Look at the cases President Obama has highlighted. There are young people who say they have benefited from being allowed to stay on their parents´ health policies until age 26. There are people suffering from serious illnesses who say they are thankful there will no longer be lifetime caps on insurance benefits. There are stories of people with pre-existing conditions who will be able to purchase
If life under ObamaCare is as wonderful as supporters tell us, how come Harry Reid is keeping his staffers from enjoying it? As part of the Affordable Care Act, members of Congress and their office staffers are required to purchase their health insurance through the new ObamaCare exchanges. But Reid is the Senate majority leader. And he has just taken advantage of a loophole in the law that allows leaders in Congress to exempt their committee or leadership staffs. It makes for an illuminating contrast.
WASHINGTON—It is now apparent that our President has lied to us. He lied when he crooned soothingly about improving the healthcare of millions of Americans through vast changes in health policy that would actually lower their costs. Those costs are now going up, and they are going up for almost everyone. They will not come down. He lied when he said we could keep our present healthcare policy. Those policies are rapidly disappearing. He lied again when he said we could keep our doctors. He lied when he said his plan would not involve rationing. I could go on, but
Over the weekend, the Obama administration announced that it had met its self-imposed deadline to fix its balky health insurance exchange website for the "vast majority" of users. U.S. Health and Human Services officials issued a graphics-heavy, information-light report that claimed great leaps of progress from the earlier crash-prone website that frustrated most users for weeks. The administration says, Mission (Largely) Accomplished. The feds set the bar low and now claim to have cleared it. Federal officials crowed over the weekend that the website can handle 50,000 users at a time. But many more than that will likely flood in,
WASHINGTON — White House officials, asserting that the HealthCare.gov website is largely fixed, are under mounting pressure from Democrats and close allies to hold senior-level people accountable for the botched rollout of President Obama’s signature domestic achievement and to determine who should be fired. For weeks, the president and his aides have said they are not interested in conducting a witch hunt in the middle of the effort to rescue the website. But in the West Wing, the desire for an explanation about how an administration that prides itself on competence bungled so badly remains an urgent mission.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—Sen. Mark Pryor, speaking to a group of college officials, recently offered a biblical solution to Washington´s gridlock. Politicians should follow the teachings of Jesus, the two-term Democrat said, quoting from the Sermon on the Mount. Dale Leatherman, an administrator at a Baptist college, warmed up to the Arkansas senator after those remarks but said he still couldn´t imagine voting for Mr. Pryor next year. "Even though he personally supports conservative ideas," Mr. Leatherman said, "I struggle with the fact that he´s part of a party that does not." The ability of Democrats to keep control of the Senate in 2014
So Nov. 30 has come and gone, the day that President Barack Obama promised HealthCare.gov would be up and working. And his administration says that the site is working, dramatically better than when it first went up. On the other hand, anecdata suggest slow enrollment. So what does it all mean? Is the website working? Is Obamacare saved? To answer that, let’s break down the details a bit. First, the good news: Compared with the chaos of October, the consumer experience is much better. It could hardly have gotten worse;
The Supreme Court’s decision to hear two constitutional challenges to the HHS contraception mandate has frightened Obamacare’s media cheerleaders into launching another of their propaganda campaigns designed to protect the “reform” law from itself. Those Americans still naïve enough to rely on establishment news outlets for information on current events are being told that Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius and Conestoga Wood Specialties v. Sebelius are part of a sinister conspiracy to restrict access to birth control, endow corporations with religious rights, and escalate the “war on women.”
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Call me Grinch, call me Scrooge. Call me Lord Voldemort of the Yuletide. None could be worse than sending me a holiday card with glossy photographs of your lovely, smiling family. My wife, Emily, and I place your cards like trophies on our shelves, continuing an old-school practice that began about 175 years ago as a way of maintaining relationships as families and friends moved far and wide. Today’s cards may appear more personalized — with photos of spouses, kids and pets, and distribution lists much smaller than a sprawling collection of Facebook friends. But when I flip over the photo
Chris Matthews is crazy. Nevertheless, when left-wingers talk openly with one another, their craziness can be revealing. That is the case, I think, with this remarkable MSNBC clip. Matthews, fresh from his kneepad interview with President Obama, praises what he terms a uniquely brilliant insight by Al Sharpton: South Africa’s white politicians of the apartheid era were more patriotic than today’s Republicans: I haven’t heard anything as smart as what I heard Reverend Sharpton say a moment go in five years. The difference between the way F.W. de Klerk handled the need for change and the election – democratic election
