| Members of Mitt Romney’s campaign staff ignored the early day warning signs of low voter turnout on Election Day and held on to their optimism until it turned into befuddled confusion. The person that was left the most surprised by the unfavorable numbers, however, was Romney himself. ‘There's nothing worse than when you think you're going to win, and you don't. It was like a sucker punch,’ one unidentified adviser told CBS. The concession call was handled by Romney’s body man, Garrett Jackson, who diligently called his Democratic counterpart Marvin Nicholson. ‘Is your boss available?’ Jackson asked.

My heart just breaks for Gov Romney and Mrs Romney. My anger just keeps growing by the minute at people like Chris Christie and other RINO's who used Romney then stabbed him in the back. Thought I'd be better by now but - no.
I was just as upset when Clinton beat Bush in 1992 and Dole in 1996, but this time is different for some reason

Mitt, Ann, Paul and Janna are good people. They have no reason to hang their heads. Obama is not as well-liked as the media who props him up wants us to believe. I predict his inauguration coverage will get very low ratings.
America is ready for a change, and once the GOP learns effective strategies to defeat those who protect the status quo, things will look up for our nation.

Many of us suspected this might happen. If Mitt couldn't see it, then he was not qualified to be POTUS. He's a good and decent man, but all the signs of possible election theft were there for those who had eyes to see. Among other qualities, a President needs vision.
Today's news about Petreus is also no surprise for those of us who can see what we're dealing with.

They want a nanny-state. What they're going to get in the future will surprise the fools who cast their votes for democrat promises.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan did this campaign to try try to save our country. The fact they lost does not reflect poorly on them, it is the fault of too many takers.
I am proud to have supported them and in mourning for America. For the first time in my life I am not optimistic about our future.

On Wednesday morning I buried my brother and lost my country. Talk about a double wammy. Saul Alinsky was the winner (if you tell people a lie enough times they will believe it is the truth) and a good man, who truly cares about his country, was the loser. Sad indeed.

#3, surely you jest. Obviously Romney could envision the possibility of a loss.
And he is a strong enough man, that within a short time of realizing he had lost, he was onstage and on national television, giving a clear-eyed and gracious concession speech.
Think you could do that?
And #8, my condolences. I lost a dear friend suddenly, a week before the election. Only consolation is that she didn't live to see the destruction of her country.

I felt the same .. sucker-punched. Here we had a truly admirable, honest man willing to take on America's problems -- and the Ozero Campaign stole the election through who knows what? Youth, stupid women, Soros payments, rigged machines, computer voting? This is tragedy beyond belief. Those who voted for Ozero deserve what the future holds, but the rest of rational America does not. I hold the Romney and Ryan families in my prayers and hope they feel the love of the millions who so wanted them to lead us. Now comes The Resistance and the Re-education of our youth.

#8: I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. What an awful double tragedy you've had this week.
The Gimmecrats almost certainly stole this election through voter fraud and voter suppression. Many members of the military (the ones who have actually earned the privilege of voting) didn't receive their ballots in time. Convenient for the most corrupt president we have ever had.
Go to Romney's FB and thank them for their effort. They need support in a time like this and they won't get it from selfish turncoats like Christie et al.

There was massive voter fraud in OH and CO. Let's just get that on the table.
What I don't understand is why Romney pulled a McCain and just nicely gave up. What was that? He should have had them recounted in the key swing states - who cares what it looks like - the country was at stake.
I think there was fraud BECAUSE they were so shocked. I also think Christie contributed to his loss. But so did Romney by being to nice and gracious about Benghazi and for not defining himself, but letting Obama do it for him.

It's natural for a candidate to insulate himself from the reality that he might lose. Unfortunately, campaigning to not lose keeps you from doing things that will win. Romney and his advisors hunkered down while Obama carpet bombed him with lies. Will the GOP ever learn? No, they will not. Romney is a good man, he didn't deserve what he got, but the GOP needs gutter fighters. It's about survival now. Being nice to Democrats means you get your throat cut, but it also means I get my throat cut, so the GOP had better knock it off.

It is not possible that there were fewer votes than in 2004. It is not possible that there were 14 million fewer votes than 2008. Everyone and I mean everyone I have spoken to cannot remember seeing more people at the polls. I have seen the same told by many on this site. The exist polls all point to Obama losing, strong majorities think we're on the wrong track, the economy is the primary issue, Romney is better on the economy, etc. etc. and yet Obama wins? The math doesn't add up. There is something horribly wrong here. The election was stolen. Obama is not a legitimate president. Unfortunately, the country is lost. It is now time to "...throw off such government, and to provide new guards for [our] future security." The United States are finished but the conservative states should start anew. I don't think it will be long now. I pray that it won't.

I am sick to death of so-called conservatives (including those on this site) who continue to attack Romney after this catastrophic election. Romney and Ryan were good candidates, and they worked very hard to win and save us from the beast, Obama. If there is any blame for their loss, it lies at the feet of judges who would not allow states to implement voter ID laws, which would have made it harder for the Democrats to cheat in certain critical states. And when I hear that Republican vote numbers were lower than 2008, I can only believe that many RINO-phobic and Libertarian-leaning fair-weather Republicans once again failed to vote for their party's candidates because of some distorted, holier-than-thou insistence on dogmatic "purity" in the candidates, thus handing the election to the Democrats, as they did in 2008. This election turned out to be a tragedy, and we are all in mourning. Don't annoy the rest of us with your unhelpful complaining.

I´m not even going to address the "so-called conservative" slap; it can sit alongside "RINO" on the shelf of fratricidal epithets that helped lose this election. For over a year I have watched people on this site throwing away votes. Men and women of good faith can differ over matters of politics and still unite in a common cause. What they will not do is partner with people who insult them. I have no doubt that the derisive behavior of some Romney advocates on this site cost Mitt votes. Call it deriding for a fall. I´m equally certain that unthinking condemnations of Romney after he was nominated did us no good. The two great conservative leaders of my lifetime left us two pieces of political wisdom: The Buckley Rule and the Eleventh Commandment. Going forward, we need to vote for the most conservative candidate who can win, and we need to remember Reagan´s commandment and keep it wholly.

The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. It was hit by coral bleaching, caused by higher water temperatures that break down the coral´s symbiotic relationship with algae that provide food for coral growth.

As the US and China grow increasingly involved, Kim Jong-un must be brought into line if war is not to be triggered by an act of recklessness. There are two schools of thought about what lies behind North Korea’s increasingly frenzied posturing. The first goes like this: the rhetoric emanating from Pyongyang--including calls to “break the waists of the crazy enemies [and] totally cut their windpipes”--is no worse than their decades-old ritualistic promises to turn South Korea into a “sea of fire”. What we are witnessing, according to this theory, is nothing more than an inexperienced leader

Even those who paid attention to global Jihad before the millennium could not imagine how vulnerable the West would prove in the coming, wildly asymmetrical war. President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that
