"Skyfall," the 23rd movie in the genre—directed by Sam Mendes and opening in theaters Friday—has somehow turned the all-encompassing man's man into a kinder, gentler Bond. There are still the casual killings and car chases, of course, but Bond has been shorn of that subtly menacing blend of sadism and political incorrectness that set him apart from Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt and all the other identikit espionage heroes. Saw the trailers for this Bond movie and since I only like Sean and Roger in the role,I will skip the short ugly dweeb they are foisting on us. My husband was a ringer for Sean Connery and of course my favorite Bond.

There was one James Bond. His other name was Sean Connery. The others have been obvious imposters, totally miscast to anyone who has actually read the books.
This new one, who looks more like someone from a Russian gulag, is no better.
The only actor I see today who could do a decent James Bond is James Caviezel, who is now doing a terrific job on "Person of Interest". Suave, strong, sexy. Cool.

I totally agree with #11. James Caviezel, from "Person of Interest" can carry off the attitude and uncompromising nature of Bond. Pierce Brosnan and the others who have come after him never have been able to do this.

Glad to see Jim Caviezel mentioned as the new perfect James Bond. He has it all. Not a Sean Connery clone, but as smart, sophisticated, classy and witty. And he has no problem dispensing with a bad guy. It would take no leap of imagination to see him as Bond.
"Person of Interest" is the most interesting and entertaining television series to come along in a long time. (And Caviezel the most interesting actor.) Those who watch it once are hooked (like us). Clever story concept, great script, casting, cinematography and editing. Original.
We get it on Thursday night. If you aren't watching it, do give it a try. And see if you don't agree that Caviezel would be a splendid Bond.

Up to now, Bond played by James Craig has been perfect for my taste. Highly athletic, nearly genius smart, ruthless and dark. There's little doubt if not a government agent, he'd still be maiming or killing people who got in his way.
If the producers want to turn him into Elton John, fine. I'll sit this one out.

First of all, how on God's earth did freaking Sam Mendes helm this film? OK, he is British, but please.
This guy had given us more obnoxious, downbeat, awful films with wimpy male figures in them that it surprises me very little that he would have some bi-sexual references in a James Bond film.
This guy did American Beauty (Middle aged guy throws away his career, smokes pot, hangs out with slackers, and is eventually shot in the head by his gay, self-hating military neighbor);
Revolutionary Road--young couple has it all, nice house, he a great career at the start of mainframe computer technology, she a spoiled, mentally disturbed woman who wants to run off to France, and when she doesn't get her way, gives herself an abortion and dies.
Jarhead--depicting Marines as a bunch of jerks floundering around in the mid east

and this guy does a Bond picture? No wonder it's awful.
For me, I stopped watching Bond movies because since the last Brosnan and all the Craig pictures, Bond movies stopped being FUN. All the Connery and even a good chunk of the Moore films were fun. Fun villains, great sets, great action pieces and gadgets. The new stuff featured betrayals at the highest points of Bond's organization, graphic torture, and unpleasant mayhem.

Add the name of Michelle Lynne (ne Robert) Kosilek to the list of modern phenomena the Founding Fathers would definitely not appreciate being blamed for. Little did they know what havoc they would someday wreak by adding the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution to prohibit “cruel and unusual punishment.” Now comes Kosilek, a convicted wife murderer doing life without parole. He/she is claiming that it would be cruel and unusual punishment to deny him/her a sex-change operation — excuse me, “gender-reassignment surgery.”Not to get too graphic, but Kosilek is begging for elective amputation of a body part.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 40.86 points to 14565.25 after the Labor Department announced that the seasonally adjusted number of new jobs created in March was just 88,000 — far below the 190,000 or so Wall Street expected. The March figure was also less than one-third the number of jobs created during February. This led to the misperception that the job market tanked in March. It didn’t.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned.
