It really is tight! Exit polls from first
key swing states shows Romney

Barack Obama’s hopes of re-election have been given a major boost by exit polls that show him leading in the crucial swing state of Ohio by 51 to 48 percentage points and deadlocked in Virginia and North Carolina--both must-wins for Mitt Romney. Exit polls are notoriously unreliable and in 2004 showed Senator John Kerry defeating President George W. Bush, who went on to win re-election. It appeared tonight that the exit polls would once again have to be inaccurate for Romney to be victorious. Ohio is crucial to the hopes of Romney winning because it represents 18 electoral college

Ignore the exit polls and check out actual voting results for PA here; http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/

Romney is hoping the rural areas turn out in big numbers and apparently this is happening here in PA. My husband and I voted just before dinner and usually when we vote we are in the 300-400 vote count, but tonight I was voter number 756! Granted we are very rural, but I hope, and believe, this will be representative in most of PA, excluding Philly of course.

The White House´s director of national intelligence admitted on Monday that the National Security Agency and other federal government departments should have been transparent with the American people when it first began collecting a broad swath of phone records. James Clapper mused openly about how the PRISM program, authorized by Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act, was received by global media and the American public, conceding that the scandalous outcome would likely have been different if the government had been less secretive. ´I probably shouldn’t say this, but I will,´ Clapper told The Daily Beast.

The landmark deal to destroy Syria’s arsenal of chemical weapons is in deep trouble. Under the agreed timetable, all of the most dangerous “priority 1” chemicals should have been shipped out of the country by December 31 last year. In fact, barely 11 percent--or 77 tons out of 700--has actually been removed. The total destruction of Syria’s chemical warfare capability is supposed to be complete by June 30. It’s already pretty clear that this won’t be possible--“without a shadow of a doubt”, according to Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, formerly the commander of Britain’s defences against chemical and biological weapons.

The White House may have to scrap its plans to aggressively promote a 40 percent national minimum wage hike now that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that the move would likely cost the U.S. 500,000 jobs by the second half of 2016. The CBO´s report, released Tuesday afternoon, also estimated that it would pull 900,000 low-income Americans above the federal government´s poverty line. The White House didn´t answer questions about whether that trade-off is acceptable to President Obama, but Senate Democrats have pushed hard for legislation that would implement his goal of driving the minimum wage far above its current

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told reporters on Monday that there is ´absolutely no evidence´ that the United States will lose jobs as a consequence of implementing the Affordable Care Act. But the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office declared on February 4 that the Obamacare law would suck the equivalent of 2.5 million full-time jobs out of the U.S. economy by 2024. ´There is absolutely no evidence, and every economist will tell you this, that there is any job loss related to the Affordable Care Act,´ Sebelius insisted Monday in Florida. ´Part-time positions are actually down since 2010, not up,´ she

There´s a debate going on about Hillary Clinton´s past. If she runs for president in 2016, should Republicans reach back to the scandals of her years as First Lady? Or should they focus on more recent times, especially her tenure as Secretary of State, to build a case against her? The GOP doesn´t have to choose. Of course Clinton´s recent experiences are relevant to a presidential run. But so are her actions in the 90s, the 80s and even the 70s. It´s not ancient history; it reveals something about who Clinton was and still is. And re-examining her past is entirely consistent with practices in recent campaigns. In the 2012 presidential race,

America’s Founding Fathers fiercely held to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—values which Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) claimed align seamlessly with Obamacare. Pelosi explained why the law is “very sound policy” during a press conference Friday: To go to back to our founders once again, they sacrificed it all for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This law, the affordable care act, is about a healthier life, the liberty to pursue your happiness. That is solid policy, and the mandate is central to that. The weirdest thing about John Kerry´s weekend speech on climate-change—other than the fact that this is the same guy who in 1997 voted to forbid the U.S. from signing the Kyoto Protocol—is that it begins by quoting something Maurice Strong said at the U.N.´s 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro: "Every bit of evidence I´ve seen persuades me that we are on a course leading to tragedy."
