Petraeus and Panetta Speak—
But Not the President

Weekly Standard, by William Kristol

Seven weeks later, the White House still hasn't explained what President Obama did and didn't do during the seven hours of the attack on Benghazi on September 11. And there's been no response from the White House to questions asked by senators or THE WEEKLY STANDARD or David Ignatius in the Washington Post. We have, to be sure, heard from some government officials. But the information they've provided raises still more questions. CIA director David Petraeus authorized a statement pointedly saying that "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need;

Trucker Observation: America was attacked on 9/11/2012 by Muslim terrorists. Obama's regime failed to protect our Libyan Ambassador. Obama is stonewalling until after the election. Voters have a right to know why the greatest military power could not defend our soldiers or Ambassador.

I am so disappointed and hurt by General Patreus. He's a man I admired and even thought might be a candidate for the presidency. He's become anathema and didn't, as you reported, "throw Obama under the bus," he threw those who died needlessly in Benghazi under the bus as he turned his back, went to bed, and now is scrambling to justify what he didn't do. This man holds the rank of general in the U.S. Army and he has forever shamed himself and should be stripped of his rank. It is my sincere hope that he's tried right along with Hillary, Panetta, and the coward in chief.

Panetta says he and two generals decided they could not put anyone in harms way without knowing more about conditions there.

If two men could hold off a mob for seven hours, killing 60 of them, why could we not go in with impunity even with a small force? Who was going to stop us? The idea that we didn't want to violate Libyan air space is ludicrous. We are not talking about Russia here whose air space would be a problem to get into.

Amen #2. The Ben Ghazi travesty has opened a lot of eyes and personally it makes me sick at heart to have ever thought Petraeus had the integrity or character to run for President. He has become no more than another minion in the corrupt-obama-administration. He has not been seen since he got the symbolic-appointment of CIA Director, he just stays out of the way.. Shame on him.

#s 2 and 4, don't slam a guy who is not in the chain of command. Petraeus heads the CIA and provides assessments to the decisionmakers. The POTUS and the SecDef are the national command authority. Their primary military advisor is the CJCS. The NCA commands through the Combatant Commanders - in this case Gen. Ham.

I have not agreed with a lot of what Petraeus has done as Cdr, CENTCOM, but his statement as CIA head concerning Benghazi is spot on. He doesn't command forces anymore, and criticism of him on this board is unwarranted and frankly, way over the top.

I'll withhold my comments on Petraeus for the time being, but Panetta looked into the camera, with that effete little twirp posing as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs by his side, and lied to We the People. I hope to God he is called to task after Mitt Romney is sworn in.....

If no one in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need, then why didn't they? The CIA has the ability to respond to attacks like that, or send in help. Again, why didn't they? Someone must have given the order to stand down, so who was it? Petraeus should know, or someone else with the authority to deny help. I am so disgusted with this regime in DC that words fail me. Why would anyone want to join the services if they would be abandoned like that?

Who should Petraeus have ordered to help? We absolutely know he had assets on the ground, right? Here's a little lesson: Any forces that are not under the command of a combatant commander in a foreign country fall under the ambassador. So continue to ask Hillary! Obama et al, and don't assume a role for Petraeus out of justifiable frustration and anger.

DCAF states that they hope to make “’choice’ a reality because we believe that a woman’s right to health care should not depend on her wallet.” They offer grants to low-income women on a confidential basis. Vice President Joe Biden wandered a little off course on a trip down memory lane today. “Fifteen years ago, I was honored, as the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, to lead the fight for Poland’s admission into NATO,” Biden said in Warsaw during a visit designed to reassure America’s Eastern European allies in the wake of Russia’s move to take control of Crimea. The only problem: Biden wasn’t chairman back then. It was Sen. Jesse Helms, a North Carolina Republican, who guided the committee and launched the floor debate on granting NATO accession to Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Biden did

After Obama and Democrats ridiculed his worldview in that campaign, calling it a relic of the 1980s, Romney warns that what America and the West need now is leadership that anticipates events and sees the world realistically so as to seize opportunities when they arise: Why, across the world, are America’s hands so tied? A large part of the answer is our leader’s terrible timing. In virtually every foreign-affairs crisis we have faced these past five years, there was

Perry told a crowd of about 300 Republicans at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner at Murray State University on Saturday night that Bowie was willing to give up everything for freedom. He said he hopes there is a new generation of young men and women that are willing to give up everything to change Kentucky. One thing Perry does not want to change: Kentucky´s senior U.S. senator.
