Who gets credit for the recovery?

| Washington--The housing bust finally seems to be over. Health care costs have slowed. The unemployment rate has fallen below 8 percent, much sooner than forecasters were predicting a few months ago. Consumer confidence has reached a post-recession high. (Snip)President Obama and his aides quietly chafe at the idea that Mitt Romney would be able to take credit for a recovery. Publicly, Mr. Obama has begun to emphasize the economic good news in recent weeks. Mr. Romney, for his part, has said he expects the economy to improve early in his presidency, not because of his policies but because of optimism

Comments: My own feeling is that people are banking on a Romney win.

NYT propaganda. There is no recovery. By asking who gets credit for the recovery, attention is shifted from the lack of a recovery to a sophomoric game of who do we thank for the recovery. Lenin would be proud. Is this Dave Leonard guy related to Walter Duranty, I wonder?

The title resumes that there has been a recovery. Technically, perhaps there has, but the economy is barely growing, the jobless are still out of work, the dollar is shrinking, and peoples net worth is decreasing. So I say give Obama full credit!

Trucker Observation: There is no recovery except in the minds of Obama pimps. The NYT makes up fact to support their libtards world vision. However, on main street there are still 23 million Americans looking for work. In our babies' rooms they face a $16 trillion dollar debt (plus interest) that must be repaid to China. No Dave Leonard NO ONE gets any credit for the mess we gave to our kids.

Even the liberal press (except for NY Times) has admitted that the reason unemployment was reported to be below 8% was that an Obama supporter and state employment officer in California failed to report unemployment numbers in that state last month.

From the article: "The unemployment rate has fallen below 8 percent, much sooner than forecasters were predicting a few months ago"
What a pathetic attempt to take credit for such a meager achievement, indeed one that probably involved cooking the books.
And declaring victory based on surpassing the expectations of forecasters a few months ago??
Economic growth is anemic at best, no higher in 2012 than it was in 2011, which in turn was lower than in 2010. Fewer people working, more on disability, unemployment, food stamps, etc.
Only in the eyes of the NYT and similar illusionists is this considered a recovery.

Things started looking up after the October 3 debate when Romney broke the media's stranglehold on his chances to unseat Obama. I'm more confident about the future because it looks like our 4-year national nightmare in the White House is going to be over next January 20th, how about you?

Recovery? When millions have lost jobs and have dropped out of the labor force, the number of unemployed can appear to be "below 8%" when it's really 14% or higher. This allows the Democrats to claim a recovery is in place, but the GDP and the rate of growth is still abyssmal.
There is no recovery unless you cut the population in half and count only the employed and new housing starts.

I can see Obozo after Romney wins the presidency and the economy does take off saying, "See, I told you it was and you should have given me more time". To that Romney needs to tell the American people that the recovery is due to the optimisism of the American people that we together can make things better by getting rid of Obamacare, all the nutty regs that Obozo and his admin put in place. We, the people. Not we, the government.

There is no recovery. I still know three people living in their homes waiting for the foreclosure to finally kick them out. Not one of them has paid a dime on their mortgage for the last two and a half years; one couple, it is four years. They all bought houses they could not afford (thanks to Barney Frank), and they took as much money out of them as they could, and now they are living in them for free. Yet, they spend all their money on vacations, clothes, and tattoos.

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? Last month, the Supreme Court decided to allow the importation and resale of foreign editions of American works, which are often cheaper than domestic editions. Until now, courts have forbidden such activity as a violation of copyright. Not only does this ruling open the gates to a surge in cheap imports, but since they will be sold in a secondary market, authors won’t get royalties. Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

For the 30th straight month, the United States economy added jobs in March, albeit still at a pace too sluggish to put a big dent in the backlog of 11.7 million idle workers. The nation’s employers increased their payrolls by 88,000 last month, compared with 268,000 in February, according to a Labor Department report released Friday. The unemployment rate, which comes from a different survey, ticked down to 7.6 percent from 7.7 percent. The slight decrease in the unemployment rate occurred not because more unemployed people got jobs,

Tokyo—The Bank of Japan [8301.JA +4.83%] is pulling out all the stops to get the economy out of deflation, its new governor said, after the central bank rolled out aggressive easing measures that surprised markets, pushing bond yields to an all-time low and boosting share prices. At his inaugural policy board meeting Thursday, Haruhiko Kuroda convinced the nine-member panel to agree to a major expansion of government bond purchases, including buying longer-term debt, which is designed to drive down longer-term rates. The BOJ also broke free from some self-imposed limits that the previous leadership under Masaaki Shirakawa adhered to.

Istanbul--The blue-glass skyscrapers of Moscow City — fragments of Russia’s boom-time dream — are visible from the Kremlin walls, within which there was once hope that those towers could supplant the West’s financial centers. When the sun sets behind them, you can see that many of the offices lie empty. In fact, the real hubs for Russian banking are in other countries. Moscow’s billionaires squirrel their fortunes abroad, and many businessmen register their companies as British, Dutch, Swiss or Cypriot — anything but Russian. Whistle-blowers would have us believe that even President Vladimir V. Putin stashes his money offshore.

Nicosia, Cyprus--When European finance chiefs explained their harsh terms for rescuing Cyprus this week, many blamed the tiny Mediterranean nation’s wayward banking practices for bringing ruin on itself. But the path that led to Cyprus’s current crisis — big banks bereft of money, a government in disarray and citizens filled with angry despair — leads back, at least in part, to a fateful decision made 17 months ago by the same guardians of financial discipline that now demand that Cyprus shape up.

The Cypriot parliament is now scheduled to meet Tuesday at 1600 GMT, house speaker Yannakis Omirou told reporters. The parliament had been due to meet Monday at 1400 GMT as the government sought to push the levy through parliament before banks reopened Tuesday after a three-day bank holiday. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
