Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ” So who in the government did tell “anybody” not to help those in need? Someone decided not to send in military assets to help those Agency operators. Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No.
I'm beginning to believe the theory that this attack started out as a kidnapping of Stevens, planned by zippy and crew as an October surprise, so that zippy could then oversee a rescue and possible trade of the blind sheik.
Think about it - if the WH and State were watching in real time, maybe they thought they were watching the planned kidnapping and they ordered the CIA etc not to go in to rescue anyone because they didn't want to interfere with the 'kidnapping'. And they didn't want anyone else knowing what was happening on the ground in real time.
Sounds like tinfoil hat stuff but it makes complete sense. If it turns out to be true, there should be a firing squad in zippy's future, televised worldwide.
Sorry for the 2nd post, but I have to heartily agree with #6, especially when one recalls the early statements from Obama about the Ambassador being "taken to the hospital". That likely was part of the plan, until it all fell apart.
Like the Fan Dance. Now you see, or believe you do, then you don't.
The CIA would not have commanded our military forces. They could only ask for that support. What they knew and what they told the WH and Defense and State are the important questions. And what the CIA was doing there anyway?
So this denial, when parsed, seems to tell us nothing. I think it is carefully phrased to do just that.
Sorry to deflate your conspiracy, but... There is no US embassy in Benghazi (it's in Tripoli), and what is in Benghazi cannot even be called a consulate--maybe a station. It is like the Wild West there compared to Tripoli because of jihadi violence, lack of government and law enforcement. Q: What was Stevens + 3 former SEALS (now private contractors to State Dept) doing in Benghazi? Especially with almost no security and no reason to be there. A: Obama had a little Libyan Fast & Furious/ Iran Contra deal going on. He secretly shipped weapons to the Libyan rebels to overthrow Khadaffi without Congressional approval. Those weapons ended up with AQ and other radical jihadists. Stevens was there to negotiate return of the weapons. Instead, those weapons were likely used to kill him. Sending in US troops to save Stevens would have exposed the whole thing--especially the warehouse full of weaponry that was emptied during the attack. Obama was in full CYA mode and put 4 Americans in harm's way, and then watched them die real-time via drone cameras.
From the FOX report.."an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. consulate and subsequent attack several hours later on the annex itself was denied by the CIA chain of command -- who also told the CIA operators twice to "stand down" rather than help the ambassador's team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11". Petraeus is the top of the CIA chain..now read his statement again. I believe it points to the CIC.
Amb. Stevens was there to honor a local Libyan as he opens a new school teaching english.
The CIA annex guys were tryimg to locate & grab 20,000 missiles that can take down an airliner.
I think Obama / Jarrett denied the rescue so their phony kidnapping scheme could play out.... They were watching it live in the situation room & were told Stevens was in the safe room... Clearly didn't care about other American lives lost.
It doesn't matter why the Americans were there. What matters is that people watched while they were being killed and did nothing. When they asked for help, the decision makers denied the help because they were concerned only about their backsides. obama's insistence that this was not about politics lets us know it was absolutely about politics (his backside). If obama loses the election, on November 6, every person who knows the truth should start singing. If they stay quiet with him losing, they lose all opportunity to get their reputations back. obama, Clinton, Panetta, etc. should not get away with this and the truth needs to come out!
A legal question: If Obama gets arrested and held without bail the day after he's defeated in a landslide, and at the same time, Biden is being grilled under hot lights, does John Boehner get to sign an executive order reversing any future pardons signed by Obama?
I'm not sure about the kidnapping angle. It would seem more likely that the CIC and advisers were trying to avoid a Carteresque mistake, i.e., a possible botched rescue, as well as hiding the CIA gun running that was going on (arming Syrian rebels).
The president and his peeps are filth. Pure filth.
Well, if you didn't give the order to stand down, and your staff didn't give the order, Director Patraeus, I bet you know who did. Doesn't all of this not go against your code of honor? Don't you think it calls for justice? You've melded into the same kind of person as the people for whom you work.
Gen. "King David" Petraeus IS an honorable man. Do not ever forget that.
Although some, like then-Senator Hillary Clinton, would crassly abuse him by suggesting that his Congressional testimony required a "willing suspension of disbelief."
Gen. Petraeus is a soldier's soldier, with all that implies.
Read about him in Wikipedia. you'll be as proud of him as I am. Aside from his unanimous (94-0) Senate confirmation as Director, CIA, there's this:
" In 1991 he was accidentally shot in the chest with an M-16 assault rifle during a live-fire exercise when a soldier tripped and his rifle discharged. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, where he was operated on by future U.S. Senator Bill Frist. The hospital released him early after he did fifty push-ups without resting, just a few days after the accident."
I always thought so too, #28 until his deafening silence of the past 7 weeks...even the AG resigned during Watergate in a show of moral courage. Read further into his bio...smart guy who married well, the daughter of the commanding general at West Point. Happen to catch Holly Petraeus on CSpan this week giving a report on military consumer issues...turns out she was the first person former Zero WH staffer and now Mass candidate for the Senate, Elizabeth Warren hired at the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to head the Office of Servicemember Affairs...guess he can't resign and come clean and jeopardize his post, his wife's, and his sons new military commission....
''When and why—and based on whose counsel obtained in what meetings or conversations—did President Obama decide against sending in military assets to help the Americans in need?''
An American president would not have stood by and not send help. This not a birthplace issue. It is a state of mind, heart and soul issue. So next opportunity we get, we simply must elect an American president so these kinds of things do not happen.
Petraeus made his character suspect the moment he allowed himself to become a member of this administration. To become a member of this administration you must be judged to be someone Obama and his crew can do business with, and someone who will not go rogue on him. For example Bob Gates was a ostensibly decent Secretary of Defense but was found wanting the day he agreed to call Obama ''gutsy'' for green-lighting the mission to get bin Laden. That did not pass the smell test, Bob. Similarly it is entirely possible for Petraeus to be a brilliant Iraqi top General and at the same time be someone who would agree to head the Obama CIA and be ready to play ball with Obama. Entirely consistent. But again, to join this administration you have to be ''flexible.'' Men and women of true character would not even let themselves be considered for a position in this corrupt administration. They know what is required and will not abide it.
Recall how Hillary treated Petraeus at a Senate hearing, ''...willing suspension of disbelief.'' No love lost there. What exactly do you want Patraeus to say? Heads of CIA rarely hold press conferences. Think of George H.W. Bush.
If Petraeus has anything to say it will be when time and circumstances are right or maybe never. He has other operations and assets to protect short and long term. In the meantime, Obama and the rest of those incompetent thugs wouldn't think of throwing him under the bus. He was never part of this crowd.
We must remember that Valerie Jarrett, that evil little pixie, is the real acting pResident and not Øbama. When the 3AM call came in that Americans needed assistance in Benghazi, she is the one who took the call and Øbama just rolled over and went back to sleep so he could be "fresh" for his fundraiser in Las Vegas later that morning. From what i have read, the two Navy Seals who rushed to help the ambassador were not following orders to stand down and watch Americans get murdered. When they engaged the enemy, that may be what fouled up Valerie's plans to "let" the ambassador get kidnapped so Øbama could look like a hero and "trade" the monstrous Blind Sheik for Ambassador Stevens' freedom. So Øbama would look like a hero when he was really a scheming skunk in the whole affair. We've got a doozy of a slimeball for a pResident along with his whole regime. Sounds like the same distorted logic that gave us "Fast And Furious", with Americans being the losers in all of this.
Something tells me we still don't have half the story. The whole thing stinks. A consulate and CIA "annex" in no man's land? No military security? Now a giant coverup? What was the meeting with the Turkish guy just before the attack about? Iran-Contra had nothing on this.
So distressing to contemplate what these guys went through in Benghazi - and when help did not arrive, if they had a spare moment to think why, did they think perhaps other things were going on over here as in 9/11/2001 and no one could send help?
My age addled, simple country boy brain is spinning like a wheel of misfortune game where life and death decisions are made by "the luck of the spin".
Concerning the Petraeus appointment to CIA topic, my spin stopped one click short of bankrupt, on the segment which reads; "respectfully decline and enthusiastically recommend Colin Powell and move on to well earned retirement".
Side note: Amen to the "hoof print" description concerning Valkyrie Jarrett.
Petraeus should resign and tell the truth about this whole situation. When the truth comes out, and it will, it will be too late to save his reputation. An honorable man would make sure these men did not die in vain.
Petraeus finally shows up and Boehner sends a letter. Wow,we all feel better. Had Pelosi been enthroned she would have been all over every network. What on earth are the leaders (HA?) of othe Repub. party doing except for Issa and Chavitz? If Repubs win the House, I say Boehner takes his big gavel and pounds it as the leader of his own house and let Issa run the House of Reps. He can multitask and is not distracted by golf.
I agree that this has Valerie Jarrett's prints all over it. She was the one who refused three times to take out Osama bin Laden. 0bama doesn't do anything without her approval.
That said, if Petraeus were honorable he would be a whistleblower. I'm pretty sure that the DCIA cannot give such an order on his own. I'm also pretty sure that George Tenet would have acted much differently.
The conspiracy theories are rather compelling! I can so see either of them: 1) a botched kidnapping and 2) a gun running scheme ala fast and furious. But would the Ambassador actually be a willing participant in the kidnapping? He would be crazy to take such a chance.
If Petraeus knows some underlying story he needs to tell us now. What are you trying to preserve by not telling the truth? The "integrity" of this administration?
Every one knows how inept Ø is, and what more did we expect of him that night? Nothing more. However, the people who he has surrounded himself with, all 'agreers' and sycophants with little experience in the areas of their assigned responsibility all shoved the buck under his door, and they had to be among the ones who understand his level of ineptness better than any of us. It comes to this; the whole administration is made of entirely inept doofuses who are so cowardly under his eye, they can not function. If this nation has to suffer another four years of this, it is simply doomed.
I just don't see this as throwing Obama under the bus. He is removing himself from being under the bus. "No one at any level in the CIA (denied help)... claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate" doesn't mean the he is agreeing that someone asked for help and it was denied by someone other than the CIA. It seems to me that he is saying that no one asked for help.
Go back and read the #6 post if you have the time.
I'd been thinking all along that this smelled like another botched ValJar enterprise meant to manipulate American public opinion [like the Gulf Oil Spill---there was a visit and then a departure from an overseeing crew about 30 minutes before the explosion---(Cap 'n Tax), Fast and Furious--(Gun Control), the Flu Vaccine shortage--(National Health Care), etc.]...but I couldn't quite figure out how Benghazi was meant to play out.
Re 6 Agree. Stevens for blind sheik. Petraues is needed where he is to expose Obama and Iranian communist Val Jar. Alternatively, why did Obama want Stevens dead? Louis Farrakhan said it best when the fraud was sworn in by traitor justice Roberts, " there is a murderer in the WH."
I think Fox News conducted a walk through of the consulate well after the attack occurred. They showed the safe rooms steel gate that the terrorists couldn't get through. I wondered then why the terrorists just didn't fire a RPG and blow the gate open or throw a grenade into the room itself? Then they set the furniture on fire and go outside. They then try to get into the Control Center and don't blow the doors open. Why? And finally, how many terrorists did our Seals, and the 30 other personnel fighting kill or wound in the battle?
All and all something just stinks in this attacks scenario? What happened at the WH defies any logic I can think of?
Kabuki is right. The National Front forthe Liberation of Libya (or whatev its name) is HQ'd there in Benghazi. That is why the office meritted the attention of Ambassador-level dip[lomat or diplomacy. About 70 counries have embassies in Tripoli. If Libya had 2 ambassadors something was going on. The National Front we armed I think to fight Kadaffi. When did the flow of guns stop and did it stop? Obama has said that AQ was on the run. When GWB left office AQ seemed pretty shaky, and in 3 countries. Now it is ins 30 countries.
Sadly, the kidnapping scenario is plausible with this traitorous crowd. I'm so disappointed in Petraeus. One can only hope that he gets hold of himself and tells the truth. No honor in his present behavior and continued support of the evil, fraudulent empty suit. This administration is SOULLESS.
Any reasonable person could see that this pathetic spinning operation out of the White House stinks to high heaven. Other than FOX and a few conservative outlets, the majority of the media have taken a dive in order to protect Obama. Sharyl Attkisson of CBS has shamed the men in the liberal media with her reporting. This is worse than Watergate, worse than Iran Contra and looks to be much , much worse than what we presently know. General Petraeus has staked out his position , General Ham of AFRICOM has staked out his , Panetta and Hillary look like mendacious fools and Obama looks like he's lying through his giant teeth or was never in the loop to begin with. Imagine if President George Bush sat back and allowed four black Americans, including an Ambassador , to be slaughtered.. while he went to bed. The media would have gone thermonuclear and he would be on his way to impeachment or defeat at the ballot box. Both scenarios should be in play for Obama. Valerie Jarrett best be looking for a good defense lawyer because she's going to be left holding the bag. Which of course will beg the question- where was Obama during the crisis and why did he transfer power to Jarrett ?
Is it at all possible that General Petraeus agreed to serve as head of the CIA knowing how terribly critical it is for that position not to be controlled by Obama and his regime and that he is there holding the line for good reasons, protecting it from abuse by the Obama administration as much as he possibly can under the circumstances? Could it be that he is serving our country valiantly, albeit under duress, and may turn out to be an unsung hero? Just wondering. Someday we''ll know, hopefully.
it seems the same folks who are quick to decry General Petraeus are like the ones who turned on George W. Bush over a single lie about his position on amnesty. He nor anyone else can tear into the the chain of command like junk yard dogs. Proof is built one layer at a time and the CIA live assets pool was almost completely negated by Panetta before he moved on to decimate the military. No matter who did what or when the president is responsible for all high crimes and blunders committed under his banner of office. Will Barack H. Obama take that responsibility? NO! Vote him out
If Hussein is re-elected, God forbid, just as in Watergate the president is going to get impeached.
I still remember, as if seared into my brain, when the CIA tried to destroy the valiant George W Bush. They sent out Andrea Mitchell-Greenspan to say that Valerie Plame had been outed by someone linked to Chaney-Bush. It took years to get out of this false narrative. Since this one is true, the CIA leakers are going to be much more effective. It did not matter that Judith Miller went to prison to cover for Ricwhard Armitage and Colin Powell. Clinton better throw Hussein under the bus before she becomes the new Scooter Libby.
One report states they "painted" a target so there may have been a gunship ('spectre) or fighter in the area otherwise why paint a target? If so, who called off the plane? Also, read that 2 gunships are in Libya. Not sure of source. Comments? JM (E-8 Ret.)
#6 has seen through Obama's smoke and mirrors. I think he is probably correct. This would be the perfect game changer to make the president look powerful, giving the muslims another 4 years with their man in the White House and get their Blind Sheik back.
Abundant evidence exists to prove David Petraeus has balls. Abundant evidence also exists to prove he has a heart as well as a mind. The only thing left to prove is whether he has a soul and that evidence is coming in. Will David Petraeus please take the stand? David Petraeus? Hmm, it seems the key witness is refusing to testify, but maybe that is all the evidence we need.
DAMASCUS, Syria — Syrian government forces backed by Lebanese Hezbollah militants forged ahead with their assault on a key rebel district in the central city of Homs Sunday, activists said, as President Bashar Assad’s forces try to crush resistance in the few remaining opposition-held neighborhoods in the city known as the ‘‘capital of the revolution.’’ The push on Homs is part of a broader government offensive on rebel-held areas that has seen regime troops retake some of the territory they have lost to opposition fighters in Syria’s more than 2-year-old conflict.
Egyptian military officials said Saturday that the army has prohibited ?fishing boats from operating off the coast of the Sinai peninsula near the Gaza Strip until further notice. According to the officials, the purpose of the move, which has been implemented since Thursday, is to prevent Palestinian Jihad terrorists from infiltrating Egypt via the Mediterranean Sea. According to a source in the Egyptian army, Ynet reported, the success in the closing off of smuggling tunnels on the Egypt-Gaza border has lead to infiltration attempts ??by boat. Recently, the source added,
Cairo - Egypt´s high command said on Wednesday the army was ready to die to defend Egypt´s people against terrorists and fools, in a response to Islamist President Mohamed Mursi that was headlined "The Final Hours". The post on the official Facebook page of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), headed by armed forces chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, said: "We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool." Issued three hours after Mursi appeared on television to reject an ultimatum from
(NICOSIA) - The president of Cyprus assured his people a bailout deal he struck with the European Union was in their best interests, but banks will remain closed until Thursday - and even then subject to capital controls to prevent a run on deposits. Returned from fraught negotiations in Brussels, President Nicos Anastasiades said late on Monday the 10-billion euro ($13 billion) rescue plan agreed there in the early hours of the morning was "painful" but essential to avoid economic meltdown. He agreed to close down the second-largest bank, Cyprus Popular, and inflict heavy losses on big
The United Nations will launch an investigation into Syrian claims that rebels used chemical weapons against its troops, even as U.S. officials told CNN Thursday that initial intelligence reports suggest no such weapons were used. The announcement follows days of claims by the Syrian government and rebel that the each used chemical weapons against the other side, allegations that have raised concern the ongoing civil war had entered a new, more deadly phase. U.S. President Barack Obama and other American officials have said in recent days there was no evidence to substantiate the reports that
Stocks turned lower in choppy trading Tuesday, with the euro tumbling to its lowest level since November, amid worries that Cyprus will reject its bailout plan. The Dow Jones Industrial Average turned lower, dragged by Caterpillar. If the blue-chip index closes lower, it will log its first three-day losing streak this year. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also tilted lower. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, jumped near 15. Among key S&P sectors, consumer staples held modest gains, while energy slumped.
Cyprus´ embattled president was on Sunday in talks with Brussels and political rivals to ease the terms of a planned levy on smaller deposit holders as he tried to scrape together a parliamentary majority for a €10 billion bailout for the debt-laden island. President Nicos Anastasiades is still intending to raise €5.8 billion from Cypriot bank accounts to help fund the bailout, an unprecedented move by the eurozone that could yet spark wider concern about the safety of bank deposits in the bloc. Cypriot authorities were weighing an additional bank holiday on Tuesday pending emergency parliamentary ratification of the deal which would
President Assad Bashar is running out of government troops to fight off rebels, a new report detailing the Syrian leader’s recruitment effort suggests. A Sunni cleric close to Mr. Assad — grand mufti Sheik Ahmad Badr al Deen Hassoun — has issued a decree for more military recruits, The Guardian reports. The decree suggests a dire need; if volunteers don’t step up, the government may start enforcing its compulsory service authorities, The Guardian says.
JERUSALEM — An influential Republican senator has called Jerusalem the capital of Israel, taking a stand on an explosive issue between Israel and the Palestinians. The fate of Jerusalem is one of the most intractable issues in the Mideast conflict with both Israelis and Palestinians claiming rights to the city. In his first official visit to the country, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio told Israel’s president on Wednesday that Jerusalem is “of course the capital of your country.” He reiterated America’s bipartisan support for Israel.
Iran and Hezbollah, its Lebanese proxy, are building a network of militias inside Syria to preserve and protect their interests in the event that President Bashar al-Assad’s government falls or is forced to retreat from Damascus, according to U.S. and Middle Eastern officials. The militias are fighting alongside Syrian government forces to keep Assad in power. But officials believe Iran’s long-term goal is to have reliable operatives in place in the event that Syria fractures into separate ethnic and sectarian enclaves. A senior Obama administration official cited Iranian claims that Tehran was backing as many as 50,000 militiamen in Syria.
The main purpose of US President Barack Obama´s visit to Israel in the spring is to warn Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu against attacking Iran, unnamed officials told Army Radio on Sunday. According to the officials, the urgency of the trip is because in his speech to the United Nations in September, Netanyahu had flagged the spring of 2013 as a significant time in the context of the Iranian nuclear threat. Therefore, they said, Obama is concerned that the prime minister will decide to attack Iran now when he is backed by
(Jerusalem) - A research center that Syria said had been hit by an Israeli air strike last week appears to have remained unscathed in the attack, according to satellite images broadcast by Israeli television on Wednesday. Diplomats, Syrian rebels and security sources said Israeli jets had bombed a convoy near the Lebanese border last week, apparently hitting weapons destined for the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which fought a 34-day war with Israel in 2006. Syria denied the assertions, saying the target was the Jamraya military research complex on the northwestern fringes of Damascus, 8 miles from the border.
It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. But within a decade, it is expected that the ocean which the village of Kivalina has so relied on will completely destroy it--creating America´s first climate change refugees. Temperatures in the Arctic region of Alaska are warming twice as fast as the rest of the U.S, causing ice to retreat, sea levels to rise and coastal erosion to increase. It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. The 400 indigenous Inuit inhabitants of Kivalina, who live
Arizona Sen. John McCain was the Republican Party´s 2008 presidential nominee and he still wants the keys to the Oval Office. But he is beginning to sound more like a fan of likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. "She´s a rock star," he said in a newly released interview. "She has, maybe not glamour, but certainly the aura of someone widely regarded throughout the world," he added in a reference to her work as secretary of State. McCain, reportedly trying to win back his reputation as a GOP maverick, was asked by the New Republic
President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that
FORNEY, Texas - George Zimmerman, the former Florida neighborhood watch leader cleared of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, was pulled over for speeding in North Texas on Sunday, CBS DFW reports. According to the station, Zimmerman was armed when officers pulled him over on Highway 80 in Forney, east of Dallas. (Snip) The officer reportedly did not recognize Zimmerman, who was driving a Honda pickup. Zimmerman told the officer he was armed and was then told to put the weapon in his glove compartment, according to the station.
Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.
Embattled Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner and an attorney in the Federal Election Commission’s general counsel’s office appear to have twice colluded to influence the record before the FEC’s vote in the case of a conservative non-profit organization, according to e-mails unearthed by the House Ways and Means Committee and obtained exclusively by National Review Online. The correspondence suggests the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC, where an attorney from the agency’s enforcement division in at least one case sought and received tax information about the status of a conservative group,
Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
I never thought the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case deserved nearly the attention it got. But reasonable people can disagree about that. What strikes me as unconscionable, however, is the way the supposedly objective media have not only sensationalized a tragedy but at times appear to deliberately bend the facts to fit a desired story line. Maybe it started with the use of pictures of a younger Martin or with the sudden embrace of the term "white Hispanic" to describe Zimmerman in order to more easily paint him as a racist. NBC News was the most egregious offender
No matter how much you may hope for it, it seems unlikely that you´ll be using the phrase "Senator Sarah Palin" with any great regularity in 2015. A new poll indicates that the former Alaska governor is about as popular in the state as Barack Obama — which is to say, not very popular at all. But even more surprising, while the former vice presidential candidate has made Alaska a central part of her public image, the state´s residents split on the question of whether Palin is all that Alaskan. Conducted by Public Policy Polling,
In her first speech since taking over the Environmental Protection Agency, Gina McCarthy came out swinging Tuesday and promised to ramp up the aggressive climate change agenda laid out by President Obama.(snip)“Can we stop talking about environmental regulations killing jobs? Please, at least for today,” she said during remarks at Harvard Law School. “We need to cut carbon pollution to grow jobs. We need to cut carbon pollution to strengthen the economy. Let’s talk about it positively. Let’s approach this as an opportunity of a lifetime. There are too many lifetimes at stake.”
