LOS ANGELES – "Honored to see First Lady Michelle Obama wearing our Spring 2013 dress at the final presidential debate," boasted the Twitter account of fashion label Thom Browne soon after Monday night's debate. Yet over at the Twitter account of OscarPRGirl, the official publicist for Oscar de la Renta, not a word was uttered about the fact that Ann Romney had donned a dark teal dress from the designer's collection. But that's nothing new.
A designer dress on a two-axehandle, hulking, scowling, lumbering beast such as the First Lady still looks like a mess.

FTA "And after Romney sported a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress, the DVF team went as far as to distance themselves from Romney by reportedly claiming that they were unsure how she obtained the dress." Charming group of people.
#1, Target clothes on Honey Boo Boo's mom would look better than most of the outfits Mooch wears.
Who cares what this mean woman thinks? Michelle wears ugly and trashy clothes, and everything looks two sizes too small. Michelle is built like a linebacker, and she has no dignity, no class, and absolutely no common sense when it comes to her clothes. I am always so embarrassed to see Michelle out in public looking the say she does.
Michelle has a staff of 23, mostly to try to make her look good. And we are paying for it! Laura had a staff of 3 and always looked good to me and treated everyone with class and style. Ann will do the same.
Really, there's a simple solution to this, which is right down the Romney's alley. Ann should find small designers (nice people who are trying to make it big nationally) and have them make any special clothes she needs.
She would be setting trends (cause she already has a following), helping new designers get big-name recognition, AND supporting smaller businesses. Plus there's the added benefit of snubbing these snobs.
I would lay bets that there are already designers lining up to outfit Mrs. Romney and Mrs. Ryan when their husbands win this November (yes, I said when, not if). Some of those designers are speaking out of both sides of their mouths I assure you. But at the end of the day, they are businessmen/women and they want their designs seen. On another note, Mrs. Ryan wore a couple of dresses from Talbots at the RNC convention and the libs were furious when Talbots mentioned it on their FB page. I haven't seen any more entries on their FB page since.
She of the dyed dutch-boy bob is a sore loser. Vogue lost its relevance a long time ago.
Personally, I thought that grey and black lace number last night (with the bizarro bow broach at the neck) was totally out of place. Maybe for an evening at a nice restaurant or cocktails, but not for a debate. Didn't help her derriere, either, and once again demonstrated that MO's taste is in her mouth.
Wonder what she's going to do when the dresses aren't free?
Ann Romney wears Oscar de la Renta. And Alfred Fiandaca. Has for a long time. And she pays for them.
Mooch shills for all the wannabes and has killed off at least two of "her" sycophantic designers, one a woman in Chicago whose name already escapes me, and the other a designer for young things - Tracy Feith - whose casual Gidgety clothes she even wore to the National Cathedral. As the article states, Mooch will wear anything a designer sends her with a note of gratitude enclosed.
Hollie doesn't realize that most Americans want an elegant First Lady, not a clothes Clydesdale.
I'm sure Ann Romney is not losing one wink of sleep over this one. She buys almost exclusively off the rack (albeit many designer names), and couldn't care less what these boobs think. As others have said, she could wear a burlap flour sack and look simply ravishing.
Name one First lady in history besides Michele who boards Marine One in cut off shorts and flip flops? She has a huge butt, which lets be honest, is the main trait of black women. She hates our country, "all this for a damn flag" and gets coddled by the press and Hollywood. Afterall, we wouldn't want to OFFEND her would we. Go home Moochie, a real all American woman is about to send your wide load packing.
I think Ann Romney looks great in ANYTHING she wears. Best outfit to date was on the beach playing football last weekend - such a beautiful, healthy, normal AMERICAN-looking woman.
Anna Win. is just another Hollywood elitist liberal who regular Americans despise. I am amazed how these idiots cut off their nose to spite their face by losing potential customers by voicing your idiotic political hatred.
Hollie McKay is a young entertainment and pop culture reporterette from Australia who migrated to the US and Fox.
This piece is pure speculation piled on more speculation.
Thom Browne is a dreadful designer (go and find his designs at style.com) who would dress our men in tiny tight jackets and skinny capri pants that look as though they were bought in the boys department or shrunk in the laundry.
The dress Mooch wore was no exception. It made her already linebacker-dimensioned shoulders look larger, her unboobs look smaller and her ginormous butt look mammoth. The sweet little black bow at the back of the waistline directed us to that butt although it was hard to miss. The drab color on a very black woman was deadly.
(Cont'd) What naive young Hollie doesn't seem to know is that Ann Romney has been dressing herself from Oscar de la Renta and other designers as a matter of course. (Now stand back for the hits that she is elitist and out of touch!) Moochell never wore designer clothes until she began campaigning in 2007 and sought out Chicago boutique owner Ikram to shop for her and provide her with her wardrobe. We read reams about how these clothes flooded the White House, complete with shoes and accessories, jewelry, the works. Sometimes they sort of fit, sometimes they didn't, sometimes they were grossly inappropriate as the weird getup to visit Westminster Cathedral for a private guided tour by its dean. And the big red flowered bare cocktail dress for a posthumous Medal of Honor (daytime) ceremony. The list goes on and on.
Anna may be trying to wield some kind of influence, but I doubt that someone as big as Oscar de la Renta would buckle to it. He is a businessman.

Michelle thinks if she wears something that looks like lace she will appear to be small and feminine. The outfit she had on last night looked like a gray tee shirt with black lace trim. Unbecoming and not flattering at all. She looks like a desperate drag queen.
As the wife of a high-powered and wealthy businessman, Mrs. Romney has a style all her own and I daresay, she has her own design people who are more than EAGER to make her wardrobe exactly as she desires it. Those half-eaten Runway Snarks can stuff it!
Ann Romney's dress would have looked good on the Mooch if she could have had it properly altered to fit nicely. And Ann would have looked odd had she worn the bizarrely inappropriate dress that the Mooch wore last night. The difference is that Ann dresses the way her husband likes her to dress (and he seems to have excellent taste!), whereas the Mooch dresses to make other women jealous.
Liberals are meanspirited. Michelle Obama wears clothes too young for her. Did you see her on The View in a little girl's green frock that matched the sofa. Talk about stupid. Wonder who picked that out for her. She is trying to outdo Kate Middleton but it won't work. Her big rear end is hard to fit.
Just Googled her photo too. Wondered out loud why a woman 63 years old would wear her hair in that silly looking, childish cut and hubby said: "She's sixty-three; to hide the plastic surgery scars." (Behind her ears...)
OMG! That is exactly right! The English have a great descriptive term for women like Anna Wintour; they call them:
'Mutton dressed as lamb.'
And if I had ever bought that ridiculous, pointless magazine she edits (and please check my handle -and yes, its a magazine) I would quit buying it now. This woman is pathetic.
Col. Bud Day, an Air Force fighter pilot who was shot down in the Vietnam War, imprisoned with John McCain in the notorious “Hanoi Hilton,” and defiantly endured more than five years of brutality without divulging sensitive information to his captors, earning him the Medal of Honor, died on Saturday in Shalimar, Fla. He was 88. His death was announced by his wife, Doris. Colonel Day was among America’s most highly decorated servicemen, having received nearly 70 medals and awards,
The 22 children who became ill Thursday after eating lunch at a San Diego school cafeteria made themselves sick on purpose as part of a game, school officials confirmed on Friday. According to San Diego Unified School District spokesman Jack Brandais, a group of students at Audubon Elementary School in the Lomita area were playing a game of “dare” in the cafeteria, urging one another to put different ingredients into their milk to see who could keep the milk down without vomiting. Brandais said the ingredients included hot sauce, salt, pepper, carrots and other vegetables being served at lunch.
Reuters reports Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will resign today: The Los Angeles Times has more: Janet Napolitano, the U.S. secretary of Homeland Security and former governor of Arizona, is being named as the next president of the University of California system, in an unusual choice that brings a national-level politician to a position usually held by an academic. Her appointment also means the 10-campus system will be headed by a woman for the first time in its 145-year history.
HGTV viewers are expressing outrage after the network suggested they use American flags as table cloths for Fourth of July celebrations, calling offensive, un-American and an insult to the American military. “Using an American flag as a table cloth dishonors all Americans who love Old Glory – especially those who gave their lives defending it,” one viewer wrote. “No one dies for a table cloth.”
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Massachusetts police official say the brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon before having shootouts with authorities didn´t have gun permits. Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas tells The Associated Press in an interview Sunday that neither Tamerlan Tsarnaev (tsahr-NEYE´-ehv) nor his brother Dzhokhar had permission to carry firearms. He says it´s unclear whether either ever applied and the applications aren´t considered public records.
Facing a surging homicide rate and several headline-grabbing murders, Chicago’s top cop is taking aim at lobbyists who he says prevent politicians from implementing more gun control measures. Appearing on a local Windy City Sunday morning talk show on the radio station WLSAM, Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said special interests that lobby politicians to influence their opinion on gun control are the real problem. “If there was a special interest influencing police work, I believe that would be called corruption,” McCarthy said.

Dykes is now dead, the source says, and it is unclear what the boy´s current condition is.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday lashed out over the claim that the administration misled Americans about the nature of the Libya terror attack by asserting that it was the result of a protest, raising her voice during a Senate hearing and asking: "What difference, at this point, does it make?" Clinton, in what may be her final set of testimony as secretary, pointedly challenged Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson when he claimed the department could have "easily" determined what happened that night by interviewing staffers who were evacuated.
Street vendors and souvenir stores across Washington, D.C. are selling posters depicting President Obama as Jesus Christ — and one national news publication called him the “Second Coming.” The poster, which does not have the official endorsement of the White House, features an image of the president in prayer with the headline, “Prophecy Fulfilled.”
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Less than two months after being acquitted on charges of endangering his 2-day-old son and harassing nurses who attempted to stop him from taking the baby outside Northern Westchester Hospital, Douglas Kennedy is suing the hospital, two nurses and one of their husbands. The 44-page lawsuit, filed Friday in state Supreme Court in Westchester County, names maternity ward nurses Cari Luciano and Anna Lane as defendants, along with Cari Luciano´s husband, Steve Luciano. WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ordered a worldwide review Tuesday of hiring practices at all U.S. military day care centers after the Army revealed that it discovered problems with security background checks of workers at a Washington-area center. Shortly after the Army said it was launching an investigation of hiring practices at its 283 day care centers worldwide, Panetta´s press secretary, George Little, issued a statement saying Panetta supports the review. Little said Panetta has directed each of the military services to conduct similar reviews. The actions stem from the Sept. 26 arrests of two Army employees Source name must be spelled out according to site style
President Barack Obama is launching an administration-wide effort to curb gun violence, underscoring the growing political consensus over tightening gun restrictions following the horrific elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. Obama is tasking Vice President Joe Biden, a longtime gun control advocate, with spearheading the effort. In remarks from the White House on Wednesday, Obama will outline a process for pursuing policy changes following the school shooting, though he is not expected to call for specific measures. White House insiders say President Barack Obama is in “a funk” about what he sees as increasing stagnation and failures surrounding his second term and some worry that the President is becoming more distant and distracted. “He’s not the same Obama that came to the Oval Office after the 2008 elections,” a senior White House aided confided to friends in an email recently. “I’m worried.” Chicago Mayor and former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel tells friends that the Presidency has changed his longtime friend Obama and many of those changes are “not good.”
In warning about possible al Qaeda attacks against Americans overseas, U.S. officials may have provided too much detail about intercepted chatter and the source of the information, and that may make it more difficult to get such tips next time, former and current intelligence officials say.On Friday, the U.S. State Department issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans, citing an unspecified al Qaeda threat. The bulletin said that the highest threat levels are the Middle East and North Africa, “and possibly occurring in or emanating from the Arab Peninsula.”
Washington - President Barack Obama´s top national security advisers met at the White House on Saturday to discuss the potential threat of terrorist attacks that caused Washington and its allies to issue travel warnings and close embassies throughout the Middle East. The United States issued a worldwide travel alert on Friday (Snip) Obama is spending the weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat after playing golf earlier on Saturday. His birthday is Sunday. The White House said Obama had received regular briefings about the potential threat and U.S. preparedness measures all week.
Citing a potential al Qaeda attack, the State Department on Friday issued a worldwide travel alert and warned American citizens that the terrorist group may be plotting a strike in the Middle East, North Africa or elsewhere. “Current information suggests that al Qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August,” reads a portion of the alert, which lasts until the end of the month.
Executive Director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Mark Glaze gave some ambiguous and potentially dangerous self defense advice Friday on “Hardball.” Glaze, speaking in opposition to “Stand Your Ground” laws, said in a circumstance where someone “comes at you” with an axe handle one should attempt to either “talk,” “fight with your fists,” “run away,” or “deescalate the situation,” but not shoot the attacker: MARK GLAZE: Very often somebody will come at you. They might want to have a fistfight. They might come at you with an ax handle. CHRIS MATTHEWS: Would you consider the guy with the ax handle armed or not?
[Video] Rapper Jay Z appearing on HBO´s "Real Time" with Bill Maher says that the black community wants upward economic mobility rather than a stronger police presence. In a conversation with former Congressman Barney Frank about police tactics such as stop-and-frisk, Jay Z suggests the stagnant economy and wealth inequality could cause widespread social unrest: "The real problem is there´s no middle class, right? So the gap between the have and have-nots is getting wider and wider... It´s gonna be a problem that no amount of police can solve, because once you have that sort of oppression
You don´t have to be gay or even Russian to feel the wrath of the Russian government´s homophobia. You could go to jail if you are "pro-gay," whatever that means. And that´s under just one of a growing number of hate-infused bills becoming law at a time when, as it happens, Russia is preparing to host the world in the next Winter Olympics. The perverse anti-gay legislation is inflaming an atmosphere of persistent intimidation and at times deadly violence against Russian gays and lesbians. The question now is: What should the rest of the world do?
An odd dark vertical line that was observed in the sky over Florida earlier this week has left meteorologists puzzled. The shadowy apparition was spotted and photographed by Mike Weight at Honeymoon Island State Park near Dunedin, Florida, Wednesday. Weight was walking on the beach at around 12.30pm. The day was bright and sunny, but there were thunderheads forming to the east. ‘I was looking North when I observed what looked like a ray of dark light coming down from a small cloud to the surface of the Gulf about a half-mile away,’ the 73-year-old man wrote in an email
Several skills that every kid once learned in school are going the way of the dodo in a hurry. Diagramming sentences is practically an extinct art, for example. Cursive handwriting and memorized multiplication tables look to be swiftly headed that way. Apparently, the next thing that kids will no longer need to learn is spelling and grammar. Sugata Mitra, a professor of educational technology at Newcastle University in northeast England, announced that traditional language rules are out of fashion, reports the Daily Mail. Kids don’t need to waste time on those things, see. State-of-the-art computers and mobile phones can make
I have a suggestion. How about an exhibit on Tawana Brawley? If the purpose of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian is to remember racial controversies, as the proposed Trayvon exhibit seems to confirm, then how about an honest look at the phenomenon of hate crime hoaxes? Particular attention should be paid to the role of the media in both the Trayvon and Tawana materials. Unquestionably, the media stirred up racial animus, and these incidents both contributed to raising racial tensions.
Goose Creek resident Nancy Mace officially announced her campaign to defeat U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham in the 2014 Republican Party primary. The first woman to graduate from the Citadel, Mace is a well-regarded up-and-comer in Palmetto State politics, counting at least one notable South Carolina Tea Party fave as an ally, state Sen. A dart game that used President Obama´s face for target practice at a county fair in New York state is being dismantled today. Fairgoer Abigail Czapsky submitted photos of the booth at Otsego County Fair to HuffPost yesterday, which show President Obama´s face lined up alongside yellow stars in a dart game. According to Czapsky´s Facebook page, following yesterday´s HuffPost story the booth has now taken down the offensive targets. Czapsky says the Otsego County Fair Board called her to apologize about the booth and explain that it was being taken down. Not one individual on the fair board
