Not original. There has been an actual 18 foot fork in the road in Pasadena, CA, for a few years. The City finally gave in and it finally was made official. (see Update at end of CNN article).
And now an enormous Idaho spud has joined it:

Drivers heading toward the median that splits Saint John and Pasadena avenues have likely gotten used to the giant wooden utensil stuck in the road. But Tuesday afternoon, they were also greeted by a six-ton Idaho potato.
The Idaho Potato Commission is celebrating its 75th year by taking what they've dubbed the world's largest spud on a 36-state road trip, said Kaiti Frickey, part of the “Tater Team” that has been carting the potato around for more than six months.

There's one like this along a highway near where I live; it's on private property, and has been there at least 15 years now. I thought it would last a couple years before the weather and neglect got it, but the owner keeps it looking as good as new. It may have been put in as a joke originally, but I know that I look for it every time I go up that highway, and I would miss it if it were gone.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church.
