The October Surprise
PJ Media, by Michael Ledeen

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 10/21/2012 5:02:56 AM

The New York Times reports (and the White House denies) that “The United States and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran.” Two of the three assertions in that lead paragraph are demonstrably false. One-on-one negotiations have been going on for years (most recently, according to my friend “Reza Kahlili,” in Doha, where, he was told, Valerie Jarrett and other American officials recently traveled for the latest talks).

I think Obama has been talking to Iran directly for along time, forget the back channel crap. There's too many Islamists counting on Iran to destroy Israel and a deal with the west would look extremely bad on the mullahs.
I mean that wouldn't stop Obama from striking a phoney deal for the election but he's still in their corner in a macro sense.

Allowing inspectors in would be a fool's mission but it would be a likely part of a deal.

Does anyone else find it disturbing to think of Valerie Jarrett "representing" the interests if the United States in talks with Iran?

Exactly, 2 -- what business does Valerie Jarrett have representing the US?

Ambassadors have to go through security clearance and confirmation. All we know about her is that she's a Chicago slum lord.

If he can only get re-elected, the iranians will have the time they need to finish making the bomb and sending at least one or two to Israel. Don't even want to think where the rest will be headed.
I wonder. When history is written, will obama be portrayed as the chamberlain of the USA or as the puppet for our enemies?

I can't imagine Valerie leaving Obama's side long enough to go to talks. She goes everywhere with him to make sure he follows the Party line. Afterall, he did sign on the dotted line and joined The New Party,(The Communist Party of Chicago) when he was a Community Organizer. Her father in law was a member of the Chicago Communist Party. Why didn't she have to get National Security clearance in order to see all of our National secrets. I don't like this picture. She answers to no one. He answers to her.

Well, well, well. Real information from someone who knows, who actually participated in talks with Iran. In the mid-1980s.

As Ledeen says, this talk about an agreement has been going on for some time. Condi Rice and Nicholas Burns were left holding the bag in New York , waiting for "the plane to leave Tehran" to bring the Iranians to the U.N. for the signing ceremony. Never happened. In 2006.

So Obie and his minions try a last ditch pre-election attempt to bamboozle us with this nothingburger "leak" on secret negotiations involving Iranian-American Valerie Jarrett.

As Ledeen opines,

So what is happening? The most likely explanation is that Obama is still desperately seeking his grand bargain, the one that would validate his (and the Nobel Committee’s) claim to be a talented peace maker. That deal is not available, because the Iranians don’t want it. But he wants something to show for his efforts, so he settled for a big nothingburger: an agreement to talk some more.

ValJarJarBinks is probably letting Ahmadinejad know that after the election Hussein will have more flexibility. If anyone close to Mitt is reading this, please implore him to ask Hussein (in tomorrow's foreign policy debate) what he meant when he whispered to Medvedev (and it was picked up on an open mic) to assure Putin that "after the election I will have more flexibility". That is absolutely one of the scariest, most traitorous things I have ever heard, and nobody is talking about it.

I find it "very" disturbing that valerie jarret the iranian is neogotiating for the U. S. of A.

First she was NEVER assigned the job by the Senate and the House -- AND -- she's a woman. The islamist don't like to deal with women. Okay for "qualified women -- like Condi" -- but this one was never confirmed as our representative. Of course hillary's in Peru working on woman's issues -- so I guess they had to send someone....

Talk about pathetic....no wonder the islamist fools are moving on US -- they see US as WEAK...

I trust Team R already know about this but, Joe didn't seem to know there had been congressional testimony under oath the day before his big debate performance, which completely contradicted his claims during his debate, so....

Really makes you wonder what plans he has with Vladimir. Is ValJar already on that one too?!

Even if the mullahs agree to stop their enrichment program, WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE THEM? Liars lie. Demons deceive. And muslim orcs rampage and destroy when ordered.

There's nothing more the lunatics in Iran would like better than to have the little man child re-elected. He wants to decimate our military, lead from behind, and put the US on equal footing with all the murderous regimes around the world, it's only "fair". The "professor" doesn't believe in peace through strength, because the chalkboard in the faculty lounge point towards peace through platitudes.

My vote on the "October Surprise" will be the lame duck Contressional session after the elections to push through ratification of treaties Obama HAS ALREADY SIGNED with the UN (Agenda 21) for gun control, energy control, control of the internet, control of our waterways... essentially turning over American sovereignty to the UN.

The House can't vote on ratification of treaties; the lame duck Senate can approve it and it will be law.

From Obama's point of view....if he loses the election, he can still tell himself he achieved his essential goal. It would be the perfect "in your face" parting gesture.

The only counter I can see to it is a House pledge to impeach each and every Senator who votes for any of the sections of Agenda 21.

But then, he might not lose despite the polls... The UN has offered to oversee and ratify the vote in each of the States. The Republican governors will refuse, of course...but are there enough small states with Democrat governors to overcome the popular vote in the Electoral College?

Brilliant strategy by VJ - having spent the past 4 years telling everyone that Iran isn't a problem she now thinks the rumor of "talks" will turn the tide of the election.

1. Those who are going to vote for Obama don't care because they don't think it is a problem - maybe I should have stopped after "think".
2. Those who understand the problem know that whatever the Obama administration will do as far as national security will be to diminish it not strengthen it. These individuals are not voting for Obama come hades or high water.
3. The undecideds who don't think and don't know who to vote for who will break Obama's way just because of "talks" with Iran can be counted on one hand.

Look for Obama to make some sort of announcement during the debate thinking that he will knock Romney off his stride and make news. But whatever Obama says, does not make it true, substantial, or in the long-term interests of the USA. Obama has been claiming that he has wanted to talk with the Iranians since before he was elected. The Iranians have one mission in mind, obtain a nuclear weapon.

The NY sting of the bombers by the FBI with an after thought to say he wanted to "hit" obama first didn't bring any excitement and very little news coverage, the Lybia incident has backfired (and read Larry Sinclair's article) so now we are going to hear he has signed an agreement with Iran for them to stop nuclear enrichment by lifting sanctions (temporarily) to just cover the election time, the polls showing him in a huge lead--pollsters want to save face by actually trying to get closer to what the outcome will be, his entire administration lying every time they flap their jaws, the journ-O-Liars slightly turning on him-----nothing is giving him the desired effects of being in the lead to be re-elected. Even Crowley's help with the last debate was seen as a smoke screen.
What's next? Almost forgot, bomb threat at Sidwell School didn't get much life span in media coverage.

Obama sends a Chicago slum lord to negotiate with Iran ??
Apparently Jeremiah Wright and
Louis Farrakhan were unavailable.
May 2008 Obama dismissed Iran as a threat
to the US because it's a " tiny " country.
"I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela,
these countries are tiny
compared to the Soviet Union.
They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us.."
July 2007
"I would [be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of my administration ... with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea ".
Hopefully , it's finally dawning on some voters that Obama doesn't know what the heck he's talking about .
On anything .
Since 2007 ,Obama has been all over the place on Iran ( and every other subject ) -taking one position and they contradicting it
the next day and
then taking another foolish position and then contradicting that and on and on and on.
The mother of all flip floppers and failures is Barack Obama.

Parse, ''negotiations.'' Considering the history of recent, 'negotiations,' in that region, it does not mean much. ...Certainly not any results regarding demonstrable respect for life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, ''peace and tranquility,'' respect for private property for each individual, much less any, ''good will to all,'' eh?

Obama's open-mike statement to Medvedev was pure treason. The only thing that has kept the Cold War cold since 1945 was our offensive and defensive missile superiority. Ronald Reagan figured out when to play the final ace and the house of Russia came tumbling down. Russia's greatest goal concerning the U.S. is to eliminate that missile superiority and Obama means to give it to them. There is no quid pro quo for us, he is simply surrendering to Marxism.

As for Iran, they are nothing but an annoying flea without nuclear weapons capability. That is the only thing they have to negotiate with and they are allegedly negotiating with an Iranian who has a tight hold on Obama's short hairs. We simply can not let that happen.

John Kerry, our secretary of state, is very angry with Israel. “Poof,” he said on Tuesday — describing how Israel destroyed his “peace process” the other week. Just like that. The first thing to say is that if a peace process can go “poof,” it can’t have been much of a peace process. Any serious discussion in which two parties are motivated to reach a negotiated arrangement wouldn’t be susceptible to going up in smoke all at once. That would indicate it never had any form or substance to begin with. And how on earth was it Israel who made

The award is the “Jefferson Muzzle,” which the administration won for spying on the news media and limiting journalists’ access to Obama. The “coveted” awards announced Wednesday by the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression are presented to people and institutions that engage in the most egregious affronts to the First Amendment. (No word on whether Team Obama was a unanimous winner.) As reported by AP, the awards are announced each year on or near the

Congress´s investigation into IRS political targeting accelerated Wednesday, with a referral for the criminal prosecution of a former Treasury official and new evidence to back it up. In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp recommends the Justice Department proceed on three probable criminal actions taken by former director of Exempt Organizations Lois Lerner. The letter, which was endorsed in a party-line Ways and Means vote Wednesday morning, discloses new evidence suggesting that Ms. Lerner used her position to single out conservative groups for scrutiny not applied to left-leaning groups. Investigators also charge that

Some people can’t take “no” for an answer. Often that’s an admirable quality. But when you are a witness at the center of a congressional investigation, and the “no” reflects the House Oversight Committee’s decision not to accept your refusal to testify, then it’s not quite so simple. And that is where Lois Lerner, the former Internal Revenue Service official at the center of the IRS scandal, now finds herself. Lerner’s case is by now well known. From 2006 to 2013, she was the IRS’s Director of Exempt Organizations, vested with power to decide which nonprofit organizations receive tax-exempt status, which

What a miserable old blister Henry Aaron has become. In connection with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s lifetime home run record, he told USA Today that Republicans and conservatives who oppose Barrack Obama and his policies are racists, little better than ku kluxers. A sample: “Sure this country has a black president, but when you look at a black president, President Obama is left with his foot stuck in the mud from all the Republicans with the way he’s treated…back then they had hoods. Now they have neckties and starched shirts.” Charming. In the

As Lori Lowenthal Marcus notes, Brandeis University has in recent years bestowed an honorary degree on Tony Kushner, who called the creation of Israel as a Jewish state “a mistake” and who attacked Israel for ethnic cleansing and for causing “terrible peril in the world.” Brandeis has also honored Desmond Tutu, who compared Israel to Hitler, attacked the “Jewish lobby” as too “powerful” and “scary,” and complained of the “Jewish monopoly of the Holocaust.” Unfortunately, that´s business as usual in the modern academy, including at an academic institution founded out of a special concern for the well-being of Jews in

If you suspect that politics might have played a role in the Justice Department bringing charges against conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, consider the financial support to Barack Obama from a key DOJ lawyer in the U.S. Attorney’s office that filed the charges. Each U.S. Attorney’s office has a lone District Election Officer (“DEO”). The DEO is the singular point person in each U.S. Attorney office for any matter related to an election or campaign finance. The U.S. Attorney’s office in the Southern District of New York is the office which brought the campaign finance charges against D’Souza. David Kennedy is the designated

WASHINGTON — Two days before joining other presidents in Texas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, President Obama tackled enduring inequality himself on Tuesday, in this case economic disparity based on gender. His action? Signing an executive order barring federal contractors from retaliating against employees who discuss their pay and a memo seeking statistics on contractor salaries. If the photo-friendly ceremony in the East Room was not exactly the stuff of Mount Rushmore, it did reflect a broader question about the state of the presidency a half-century after Lyndon B. Johnson enacted monumental change in American

This is practically old news at this point, but… come on. Via the Desert Sun: A new report from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has labeled BrightSource Energy’s Ivanpah project a “mega-trap” for insects and birds that may get singed or in some cases, burned alive flying through the intense solar radiation reflecting off the thousands of mirrors surrounding three solar towers at the plant in eastern San Bernardino County. The Center for Biological Diversity posted the report to the California Energy Commission website on Monday as part of its testimony opposing BrightSource’s 500-megawatt Palen project, located east of the Coachella

Attorney General Eric Holder exploded at Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert during a House hearing Tuesday. In the midst of questions about the Justice Department’s failure to divulge documents about the Holy Land Foundation terror funding trial, Gohmert made a side comment about how the House of Representatives found Holder in contempt in 2012 for refusing to turn over documents related to the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal. “I realize that contempt is not a big deal to our attorney general, but it is important that we have proper oversight,” Gohmert said. “You don’t want to go there, buddy! House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., has accused the panel´s top Democrat of prompting the Internal Revenue Service in 2012 to target a conservative organization applying for nonprofit status. Issa said records obtained last week from the IRS show communications from the office of ranking member Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., about True the Vote, a Texas-based, nonprofit conservative group that aims to prevent voter fraud. The communications at one point involved Lois Lerner, the ex-IRS official who Issa´s panel is poised to hold in contempt of Congress on Thursday for refusing to provide testimony about her

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. There’s a big spike in Medicaid, just as everyone expected. There’s a less big but

On Wednesday, the House Ways and Means Committee voted to refer former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution. By a vote of 23 to 14, a closed-door session of the House committee determined that Lerner’s role in the alleged singling out of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status for undue scrutiny was a criminal act. The vote was “just another attempt by Republicans to vilify Ms. Lerner for political gain,” according to the ex-IRS official’s attorney, William Taylor. In spite of the fact that the DOJ has already been investigating both Lerner and the alleged
