| The New York Times reports (and the White House denies) that “The United States and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran.” Two of the three assertions in that lead paragraph are demonstrably false. One-on-one negotiations have been going on for years (most recently, according to my friend “Reza Kahlili,” in Doha, where, he was told, Valerie Jarrett and other American officials recently traveled for the latest talks).

I think Obama has been talking to Iran directly for along time, forget the back channel crap. There's too many Islamists counting on Iran to destroy Israel and a deal with the west would look extremely bad on the mullahs. I mean that wouldn't stop Obama from striking a phoney deal for the election but he's still in their corner in a macro sense.
Allowing inspectors in would be a fool's mission but it would be a likely part of a deal.

Ambassadors have to go through security clearance and confirmation. All we know about her is that she's a Chicago slum lord.

If he can only get re-elected, the iranians will have the time they need to finish making the bomb and sending at least one or two to Israel. Don't even want to think where the rest will be headed. I wonder. When history is written, will obama be portrayed as the chamberlain of the USA or as the puppet for our enemies?

I can't imagine Valerie leaving Obama's side long enough to go to talks. She goes everywhere with him to make sure he follows the Party line. Afterall, he did sign on the dotted line and joined The New Party,(The Communist Party of Chicago) when he was a Community Organizer. Her father in law was a member of the Chicago Communist Party. Why didn't she have to get National Security clearance in order to see all of our National secrets. I don't like this picture. She answers to no one. He answers to her.

Well, well, well. Real information from someone who knows, who actually participated in talks with Iran. In the mid-1980s.
As Ledeen says, this talk about an agreement has been going on for some time. Condi Rice and Nicholas Burns were left holding the bag in New York , waiting for "the plane to leave Tehran" to bring the Iranians to the U.N. for the signing ceremony. Never happened. In 2006.
So Obie and his minions try a last ditch pre-election attempt to bamboozle us with this nothingburger "leak" on secret negotiations involving Iranian-American Valerie Jarrett.
As Ledeen opines,
So what is happening? The most likely explanation is that Obama is still desperately seeking his grand bargain, the one that would validate his (and the Nobel Committee’s) claim to be a talented peace maker. That deal is not available, because the Iranians don’t want it. But he wants something to show for his efforts, so he settled for a big nothingburger: an agreement to talk some more.

ValJarJarBinks is probably letting Ahmadinejad know that after the election Hussein will have more flexibility. If anyone close to Mitt is reading this, please implore him to ask Hussein (in tomorrow's foreign policy debate) what he meant when he whispered to Medvedev (and it was picked up on an open mic) to assure Putin that "after the election I will have more flexibility". That is absolutely one of the scariest, most traitorous things I have ever heard, and nobody is talking about it.

I find it "very" disturbing that valerie jarret the iranian is neogotiating for the U. S. of A.
First she was NEVER assigned the job by the Senate and the House -- AND -- she's a woman. The islamist don't like to deal with women. Okay for "qualified women -- like Condi" -- but this one was never confirmed as our representative. Of course hillary's in Peru working on woman's issues -- so I guess they had to send someone....
Talk about pathetic....no wonder the islamist fools are moving on US -- they see US as WEAK...

I trust Team R already know about this but, Joe didn't seem to know there had been congressional testimony under oath the day before his big debate performance, which completely contradicted his claims during his debate, so....
Really makes you wonder what plans he has with Vladimir. Is ValJar already on that one too?!

There's nothing more the lunatics in Iran would like better than to have the little man child re-elected. He wants to decimate our military, lead from behind, and put the US on equal footing with all the murderous regimes around the world, it's only "fair". The "professor" doesn't believe in peace through strength, because the chalkboard in the faculty lounge point towards peace through platitudes.

My vote on the "October Surprise" will be the lame duck Contressional session after the elections to push through ratification of treaties Obama HAS ALREADY SIGNED with the UN (Agenda 21) for gun control, energy control, control of the internet, control of our waterways... essentially turning over American sovereignty to the UN.
The House can't vote on ratification of treaties; the lame duck Senate can approve it and it will be law.
From Obama's point of view....if he loses the election, he can still tell himself he achieved his essential goal. It would be the perfect "in your face" parting gesture.
The only counter I can see to it is a House pledge to impeach each and every Senator who votes for any of the sections of Agenda 21.
But then, he might not lose despite the polls... The UN has offered to oversee and ratify the vote in each of the States. The Republican governors will refuse, of course...but are there enough small states with Democrat governors to overcome the popular vote in the Electoral College?

Brilliant strategy by VJ - having spent the past 4 years telling everyone that Iran isn't a problem she now thinks the rumor of "talks" will turn the tide of the election.
1. Those who are going to vote for Obama don't care because they don't think it is a problem - maybe I should have stopped after "think". 2. Those who understand the problem know that whatever the Obama administration will do as far as national security will be to diminish it not strengthen it. These individuals are not voting for Obama come hades or high water. 3. The undecideds who don't think and don't know who to vote for who will break Obama's way just because of "talks" with Iran can be counted on one hand.

Look for Obama to make some sort of announcement during the debate thinking that he will knock Romney off his stride and make news. But whatever Obama says, does not make it true, substantial, or in the long-term interests of the USA. Obama has been claiming that he has wanted to talk with the Iranians since before he was elected. The Iranians have one mission in mind, obtain a nuclear weapon.

The NY sting of the bombers by the FBI with an after thought to say he wanted to "hit" obama first didn't bring any excitement and very little news coverage, the Lybia incident has backfired (and read Larry Sinclair's article) so now we are going to hear he has signed an agreement with Iran for them to stop nuclear enrichment by lifting sanctions (temporarily) to just cover the election time, the polls showing him in a huge lead--pollsters want to save face by actually trying to get closer to what the outcome will be, his entire administration lying every time they flap their jaws, the journ-O-Liars slightly turning on him-----nothing is giving him the desired effects of being in the lead to be re-elected. Even Crowley's help with the last debate was seen as a smoke screen. What's next? Almost forgot, bomb threat at Sidwell School didn't get much life span in media coverage.

Obama sends a Chicago slum lord to negotiate with Iran ?? Apparently Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan were unavailable. May 2008 Obama dismissed Iran as a threat to the US because it's a " tiny " country. "I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us.." July 2007 "I would [be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of my administration ... with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea ". Hopefully , it's finally dawning on some voters that Obama doesn't know what the heck he's talking about . On anything . Since 2007 ,Obama has been all over the place on Iran ( and every other subject ) -taking one position and they contradicting it the next day and then taking another foolish position and then contradicting that and on and on and on. The mother of all flip floppers and failures is Barack Obama.

Parse, ''negotiations.'' Considering the history of recent, 'negotiations,' in that region, it does not mean much. ...Certainly not any results regarding demonstrable respect for life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, ''peace and tranquility,'' respect for private property for each individual, much less any, ''good will to all,'' eh?

Obama's open-mike statement to Medvedev was pure treason. The only thing that has kept the Cold War cold since 1945 was our offensive and defensive missile superiority. Ronald Reagan figured out when to play the final ace and the house of Russia came tumbling down. Russia's greatest goal concerning the U.S. is to eliminate that missile superiority and Obama means to give it to them. There is no quid pro quo for us, he is simply surrendering to Marxism.
As for Iran, they are nothing but an annoying flea without nuclear weapons capability. That is the only thing they have to negotiate with and they are allegedly negotiating with an Iranian who has a tight hold on Obama's short hairs. We simply can not let that happen.

I am always amazed — amazed — when anyone has the gall to dismiss, even laugh off, the suggestion that the right to keep and bear arms is a smart and necessary provision for a free society. Human history (not to mention current events!) is too chock-full of examples of nefarious regimes violently abusing and controlling their people, and the freedoms enjoyed by American citizens are the exception, not the rule. During a committee hearing of the Oregon state senate in considering their own state package of gun-control legislation last week, one testifier reminded the assembled lawmakers of one

Andrew Breitbart has become an iconic and beloved figure on the right, so it’s hard to imagine his eponymous empire could be in danger of losing conservative support just one year after his passing. But if recent events are a harbinger of things to come, that’s at least a possibility. It all started last October, when BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins penned a controversial piece, arguing the outlet was “plagued by an unusual degree of disorganization and rampant infighting…” The report might have been easily dismissed, had it not been soon revealed that Breitbart.com’s Dana Loesch was suing Breitbart.com

And now the last of them is gone. Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and Pope John Paul II—three who won the Cold War and, it isn´t too much to say, saved the West (at least for a while!)—are no longer with us. Their examples remain. They knew what they believed but also knew they had to justify their beliefs, and that one could adjust prudently to circumstances without yielding on principle. They stood firm when in power, and they took risks to get there, challenging the conventional wisdom and the respective establishments of their nations or institutions.

The 16-year-old drew up detailed plans to massacre his classmates in Northamptonshire using handguns and home-made bombs. He created intricate classroom plans and a hit-list of fellow students and where they sat, and said he would carry on shooting until the police arrived, at which point he would take his own life. But after warning users on a forum that he would be armed and ready "20 minutes from now", one user called the FBI, who alerted police in England. Frustration is taking its toll in the liberals’ war against guns. President Obama, pushing his broad gun control agenda, said we should be ashamed if we’ve forgotten the Newtown shooting so soon. The New York Times opined that Obama is being shouted down by the “gun lobby,” even though he and Biden had been crisscrossing the country “…making a forceful case for a package of laws that would reduce gun violence.” That, of course, is the media narrative on gun control. For every issue there is a narrative: a set of assumptions and boundaries of thought

Mr. Samson has found what he says are perfect replicas of the French general´s gray overcoat, he has studied Napoleon´s native Corsican tongue and he has had himself crowned emperor of France, in a cathedral yet. In 2015, he wants to lead thousands of military enthusiasts into the ultimate re-enactment: the 200th anniversary of the battle of Waterloo in Belgium. But an American rival stands in his way. Is it time to give up the fight against Obamacare? That’s a question some conservative health-care experts, pundits, and — more quietly — politicians are asking. In the first years after its passage, opponents had hoped that the Supreme Court would strike down the law or that a new president would sign its repeal before most of it took effect. But the Supreme Court decided to modify a few of its provisions instead of striking it down, and President Obama was reelected. Repeal is almost certainly off the table for four years. Obamacare will continue to be implemented.

As the bipartisan Gang of Eight works to complete a comprehensive immigration reform bill, there has been a growing consensus among Senate Republicans that the bill — so far seen by no one outside the Gang — should be the subject of multiple hearings and extended consideration inside the Senate Judiciary Committee. But on Sunday there were signs that consensus does not extend to the Republicans inside the Gang. Appearing on CBS, longtime immigration reform advocate and Gang member Sen. John McCain suggested the immigration issue is so familiar to lawmakers that multiple hearings will not be necessary.

Via Fox Nation, newly released statistics show that illegal immigrant infiltration along the U.S.-Mexico border is increasing markedly despite recent statements to the contrary by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano: “I can tell you having worked that border for 20 years, it is more secure now than it has ever been. Illegal apprehensions are at 40-year lows,” Napolitano told reporters this week in Houston. But figures released Thursday by Customs and Border Protection to Fox News tell a different story. Arrests are actually up 13 percent

The White House press corps should ask President Obama this question: You’ve told Iran’s leaders that if they come close to marrying a nuclear warhead with a missile that can hit the United States or our allies, they should expect a U.S. military attack on their soil. (Snip)Administration officials would never admit it, but the main reason for their being tougher on Iran than North Korea seems tied to American domestic politics as much or more than anything else, specifically the standing of Israel and oil versus Korea and Japan.

AS a Texas-raised journalist, I can tell you two things with confidence about my native state. One, its economy has been humming nicely for years. Two, this appears to greatly offend a certain breed of Northern writer, several of whom have descended on the state in an attempt to rebut stories of a “Texas miracle.” (Snip) “Texas has a long tradition of looking outside the government for support — and often finding it. That predates the Texas revolution and was reinforced by the rise of the cattle kingdom and the oil booms.”

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. There are 5 million of these residences in the U.S., up from

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year’s Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News. The letter from the group, “Special Operations Speaks,” supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. “Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public

Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
