Most observers seem to agree that the Barack Obama–Mitt Romney–Candy Crowley debate over whether the attack on our Benghazi consulate resulted from terrorism was the low point for the Republican candidate. While Romney turned out to be right on the substance, he was clearly flustered by Crowley’s intervention in Obama’s favor on the question of the president had called the attack an act of terror the day after. An old-time political hand in D.C., whom I know and who has advised and worked on many campaigns, is utterly convinced that the exchange was a setup
FTA: Romney, of course, should go into the next debate assuming that the moderator, as a member of the working media, will have a conscious or unconscious bias against him and will shade things in favor of the incumbent.
Honestly, the way I see it, I thought the gist of this article would be that it was a setup by the ROMNEY campaign for the next debate.
Romney now has the President on record, taking yet another untenable position into the last debate that will FEATURE this topic. The setup is there for Romney to deliver a knockout blow to Obama. Obama has now told the world that he KNEW it was a terrorist attack within 24 hours of the event. Now, that just begs the question as to why the sudden wholesale move to a story that involved a guy with a camcorder and a YouTube account.
If Romney plays this right (and he will, trust me), then Obama has a lot of explaining to do and frankly, there is no answer other than he decided to mount a campaign of disinformation to deflect blame away from his administration. Obama is hung out to dry on this and Obama/Crowley have played an unwitting role in a gambit that will have proven fatal to his campaign.
Why the Fat Lady was allowed to have anything other than DEBATE related material (ground rules, script -- which by the way appears on a telepromter in the screen in front of her -- for opening remarks, etc., a timer -- also in view of candidates --, or the questions of the audience) should never have been allowed.
But the Fat Lady was telegraphing for at least a week that she intended to disregard the agreed-upon rules of the debate. Of course, Obama agreed to change the rules in the middle of the game, so Romney was forced to acquiese to the Fat Lady's whims.
Fat Lady should have been thanked for her prior willingness to moderate and another RAT infested media whore should have been selected for the job once she determined she could not do the job as required.
Curiously, Candy Crowley is on RECORD, two weeks ago during Sunday program, asking someone at the WH why it took so long to clarify "terrorist" activity responsible NOT uTube ditty. Odd that this is not being used in Mr. Yoo's article and many others. Obviously, since she pointed this out then, she was covering for zero at the debate. Just saying...
No matter what happened, Obama and crew have been deceptive with the American people since the 9/11/12 Banghazi terrorist attack about what actually occurred. Being a smart ass in the last debate about that by parsing the words he uttered on 9/12/12 is not going to save him and his administration. Most likely he will not figure that out until the votes are counted on election day.
At Debates.org, in the lower left (isn't that a coincidence) corner, there is a link to send a message. I suggest that everyone does to voice their displeasure at this shameless biased display because clearly there was coordination between Crowley and Obama.
The article doesn't mention Crowley held up some sheet of paper as she defended Obama. Its still unclear to me if that was the transcript, but it sure appeared to be. In any case, from Romney's perspective, it would have looked like she was reading directly from the transcript, which further put Romney at a disadvantage.
To me, the proof that this was a setup was Obama's saying "Proceed Governor" with a wise-guy grin when Romney started to bring up the issue. You could tell he had some trick up his sleeve, and sure enough, that was the queue for Crowley to dig out the transcript to discredit what Romney was about to say. Too bad Romney didn't have time to ask why, if the President believed it was an "act of terror," he and his lackeys spent the next 14 days trying to deny it. My hope is that this issue won't day, but will come back to bite the administration in the days ahead.
Arrogant Obama played his hand one debate too early. He needed to have Schieffer have the transcripts at the ready, and make his bold assertion (lie) in the third debate. Now he's tipped his hand, allowed Romney a few days to regain his balance on the issue, develop an ironclad Benghazi offense and prosecute it next Monday night. Typical Obama... He thinks tactically, not strategically. In his arrogance, he fights battles cleverly, runs victory laps and then loses the war.
I took Obama's "Proceed, Governor" in a completely different manner. Romney was personally confronting him at the time and my initial sense was that Obama just wanted Romney to move on and not put him on the spot. It was a very interesting exchange to be sure.
And, now with Obama's insistence upon having known it was a terrorist attack within 24 hours of the event (as he SHOULD have known, frankly) that opens up a world of hurt on the obfuscation that ensued for the next 14 days from multiple persons under Obama's direct control.
Again, if Romney plays this right (and I have every reason to believe that he will) then Obama is in yet another indefensible position.
For the chess players out there, Romney has a knight fork on O's King & Queen. And you can stick that fork in Obama when it is over for he will be done.
WOLF BLITZER: Candy did what she was told: set Romney up or she’d become a stringer in Nairobi. SCOTT PELLEY: I’m getting ticked. Carney just gave me a list of election night analysts acceptable to the White House. BOB SCHIEFFER: On Monday, I’m supposed to ask Romney if he has any concerns about a Mormon in the Oval Office who is subject to his church’s elders. There’s also a court order restraining me from coming within 500 feet of Obama with a question which might appear harmless but could be used to bludgeon him. BRIAN WILLIAMS: Remember when it was collaborative? DIANE SAWYER: Yeah. Wasn’t so long ago they rolled over in the morning and kissed us and said they still respected us. BLITZER: I’m tired of sucking up to these people. JIM LEHRER: Look, we’re all progressives, but it’s way past time we put journalistic integrity before bootlicking. SAWYER: Agreed. Let’s get our reputations back by reporting the news instead of spinning it. BLITZER: I’m in. People, we have been flaming hypocrites for a long time. Time to make amends. WILLIAMS: Join hands. Let’s remember what Benjamin Franklin wrote in 1776: ''We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.''
[Williams’ cell rings]
Hello. What? Damn! [hangs up] Word's already out we're turning. Starting tonight, NBC Nightly News is on a five minute tape delay.
Jack Cashill has a similar article as well at American Thinker. The fact is the MSM in person of Crow-ley told a lie to defend Obama. That is the 'tipping point' from yesterday. The press has been telling lies to help Obama and his so called presidency. They are liars assisting a liar in chief. And she knew she was lying to defend Obama. It was arranged for sure. This is also why the MSM has become an enemy to our country and our freedoms.
The sad part of all this is that she has been shuttled to the sidelines of media like so many women because we get older, puffier, and no longer 'relevant to men', if you will.
Rather than come on as an equal and make a name for herself as a feminist icon by holding them both to the fire, she ingratiated herself to men in such a way as to prop him up and diminish her stature.
How could Obama and Crowley think that we would be so credulous as to believe this obviously pre-planned exchange? When did Crowley abandon her previous statements of delay in calling it terror? This is grade school level chicanery.
Having worked for a major media company for almost decades, I tend to chalk up such things to garden variety bias and not conspiracy. But, this really smells like a set up. The coincidences are just too fantastic.
We sit and watch and have apoplexy. Enough is enough. The biased moderators are an insult to this nation and all it was built on. Carrying their agenda into the arena is the height of unfairness. Why have the Republicans tolerated this horse plop all these years?
I suggest that the debate format be changed. There should be TWO moderators; one chosen from each side.
Hate to say it, but this is what I thought right off the bat. Obama's confident "get the transcript"( twice) and Crowley just happening to HAVE the transcript is just too pat......I think the author lets her off the hook way too easily. She is a long term political newsperson, not some kid just off the boat, so she must have sensed her prepping, and at least tacitly agreed------and there is still the fact that she HAD the transcript at the ready. She is a huge embarrassment, but CNN is even more so for being so proud of her, constant interruptions during ROMNEY's key points non withstanding.
Romney will have the facts on his side on Monday. My only hope is that he never turns to ask obama a question.. that only gives the one a chance to respond and lie. Just keep driving home the simple facts, and question rhetorically.
More interesing is the fact that Obama was well aware that Crowley had the transcript on hand .... as he breathlessly awaited the moment when he his debating partner, Candy, could spring a surprise against Mitt.
The WH/CNN team made the mistake of thinking that the sort of chicanery that they get away with on their Honey Boo Boo audience doesn’t fly in the debate forum. Honey Boo Boo’s don’t watch debates – serious people do, and they don’t fall for cheap tricks. Once again, the exploding cigar singes Obama’s eyebrows.
#11, I saved the debate transcript and plan to go through and count. The most obvious to me was when Romney was talking about Fast & Furious. OBAMA: Candy? And lo and behold Candy interrupted Romney & cut him off.
At this point, there is little question that there was collusion. The only questions remaining pertain to the extent, the depth, and the breadth of the collusion. The results have been plain for all to see, but as SOP for this administration, there is obfuscation up front, and frantic cleanup in the backgruund.
Obama is a snake. So are all of the self-appointed elitist liberals who control 90% of the American media. I am so sick of these "socialism for thee, not for me" multimillionaires (Chris Matthews comes right to mind), beyond their hypocrisy, they have made a catastrophic mess of our country.
You never expect to be lied to, in a flagrant way, in public. It's startling and decentering. In this case, however, it represents serious grist for the foreign policy debate. This one is going to be biting Fauxbama's skinny butt, big time.
The so called "main stream press" IS THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE. The Cow Crowley proved her socialist O slanting shamelessly. The really weak TV link is that FoxTVNews, for all the good they do, will not slam their fellow union newscasters along with their enemy politicians. On FoxTVNews, and most of unionized talk radio, Diane Sawyer and the entire Old Media crew get a virtual pass. The TV Mafia Media is the Protection Racket for all of the Beltway greed and crimes. The New Breitbartian Media attack must be versus ALL crooked politicians, bureaucrats, the Fed, etc, along with the commies in the traitorous old media. If the Diane Sawyers were honest to their audience, we would not be in the severe mess we find ourselves. The Benghazi Lie is the most recent and frightening issue to throw at all the Diane Sawyers. This is as obvious a dishonest, blatant cover up as any reasonable person will ever need to see the work of TV network traitors to the truth.
In reading the many good comments on the subject today, I've seen several that presume Governor Romney will try to make his point again about what President Obama knew and when he knew it, i.e., ''...if Romney plays this right, and I have every reason to believe that he will...''
Certainly he has the ammunition to create what many of us see as a huge problem for President Obama and his White House cabal: please explain why for weeks they chose to blame a distasteful video as the cause of the Benghazi Conulate attack if the President, in fact, did initially label it a terror attack as he and CNN's Candy Crowely claimed.
Will Governor Romney take the opportunity? Or instead pressure the President on his total lack of leadership in the Iranian nuclear issue?
I guess we will know soon enough; Monday is a few days away.
The reason urkel kept looking down during the first debate was that a staff member had planted an iPad in his podium earlier to coach him and feed info. Long after the first debate was over and the stage cleared, cameras caught the same staffer retrieving the device. At the second debate, Candy was invited to the WH before hand and coached what to do when (not if) urkel got in trouble. Hence, the 'Candy...' prompts from Urkel and then she jumped right in and cut of Romney. An orchestrated ballet. These are wicked, evil people.
More interesting, still, is that Obama's answer to the Town Hall question was irrelevant, which means that the supposed transcript to support it was also irrelevant. (Town Hall participant, Kerry Ladka, asked 'who denied the embassy's request for aid on 9/11/12, and why').
How did Crowley know Obama was going to give an irrelevant answer?
It was reported here earlier in the week that Crowley had visited the White House the Sunday before the debate. It's almost as if they agreed that if the subject of Benghazi came up, this would be their answer, 'and stick with it.'
If Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr. hasn't been contacted and a demand made to clean up the so-called ''debates'' and eliminate the current two-on-one venue before Monday, he should be... someone of us here must know how to find him. It's way past time IMO!
Leave us not forget that when Candy "got the transcript" as directed, a certain First Lady in the audience broke rules and of course decorum and started the forbidden clapping. The kerry stuff is intriguing! He sure loves the limelight and in subsequent interviews he does not seem the least bit undecided to me. A koolaid drinker fer sure.
Romney will be ready to knock it out of the park at the final debate. No reason to go for the knockout in the 2nd debate. Save it for the final. I think Romney will be prepared and they are keeping Obama off balance. He could have creamed him this week, but why give him time to recover? Do it in the final debate. Romney is no dope.
I don't think Obama actually said during the debate that he called Benghazi an act of terror. He had Crowley do that for him. All he asked was that Romney proceed. Then he asked Crowley to look at the transcript (how did he know she had it in front of her?). When she said that he'd called it terror, he DID NOT agree with her. He just asked for her to repeat it more loudly.
Crowley did the dirty work for Obama, who could then say "I never said that" in subsequent debates and interviews.
At some time Crowley has to be questioned about how she happened to have the transcript and how she didn't have to open the transcript to state that Obama did use the word terror. Surely this will happen??
Look at the exchange between Crowley et al with the MUTE off.You can see her scripted motions, to wit: move hands here, stand up, move hands/arms there--totally scripted appearing.Like a magician distracts from what is said by arm/hand movements. In '08 Obama gave Obama and Hillary the finger by rubbing his cheek with his middle finger-Hillary in the primary and M'cain during the debates. The audience laughed both times. The finger was the side away from the moderator but the audience of morons caught it. This time, Crowley was invited to the WH acc to reports on Sunday. That was when the rehearsal took place. She even has WH docs! Besides Meatloaf couldn't appear as moderator so she was the stand-in.Heh heh!
Crowley was a very poor choice as moderator. Sort of like going to the bottom of the barrel because others didn't want to have anything to do with it. It was a foregone conclusion that Crowley would be a helpmate to the Mulatto Kid, after all she's a lib on a lib network. What more do you have to know?
A few days ago Breitbart.com reported (link below) on how Candy Crowley had stepped into the exact same trap when interviewing David Axelrod on her “State of the Union” Show on 9/30. Following that interview, either Crowley pulled the transcript of Obama’s 9/12 rose garden speech or received a copy of it from someone on the Obama team (with a note to bring it with her to the debate?).
I am not trying to defend her actions - she could have said that although Obama used the phrase “acts of terror” in the 9/12 speech in which he also discussed the Benghazi attack, he made no effort to connect the two – but, by interrupting Romney and “settling the issue” of whether Obama said “act(s) of terror” during the 9/12 speech, she may have inadvertently saved Romney from jumping into the trap with both feet.
As it turned out, by drawing so much attention to that speech, the full transcript has come out - allowing anyone with an open mind to realize that Obama was lying. Nowhere in that speech did he identify the Benghazi attack as an act of terror.
My understanding is that Crowley was at the WH last Sunday before the debate. Looks to me like someone told her then or otherwise told her that Obama naturally expected some attacks from Romney on Benghazi and Obama told her to have several transcripts available. I don't think it was conspiratorial, just some coordination that sure should have been made more public and that the Romney campaign should have been informed of the transcripts being present during the debate. Maybe she did inform the Romney campaign. In any case, during the debate it ran letter perfect for Obama and he could even ask Crowley to go to the transcript, and even ask her to repeat it. Gotcha! Or not quite so quick, Mr. Smarty Pants Liar... One problem, he was obviously misrepresenting the transcript contents and got caught and he now after the debate, looks desperate and dishonest for all to see.
What a great concept for a debate! The moderator in cahoots with the incumbent candidate! The aspiring candidate totally out of the loop! It’s an ideal time-saver. No meanspirited bickering and arguing to gum up the works. That’s how things get done The Chicago Way. Just ask Al Capone, whydon’tcha!
If it was a set-up, the set-up BLEW-up in their faces! It has caused all eyes & ears to turn to the Benghazi incident in a way they never wanted. They stupidly thought that it would settle their hot potato once & for all, & everyone would move on. But, instead, it opened a Pandora's box they can't shut.
Now even the talk shows & alphabet news networks are having to cover this story. Talk about an exploding cigar! They have built their own gallows. Thank you God, for allowing them to hang themselves with their own cheating bias!
Wow. Obama looked RIGHT AT and nodded his head at Kerry Latka and said hello Mr. Kerry to him and then caught himself and pretended to look all around the room and then PRETENDED to not remember his name. Check out the 1.07.17 mark.
The whole exchange was a set-up. Its obvious. Look at Obama's demeanor, his "Proceed, Governor" remark, then his telling Candy to say it louder. All very rehearsed.
He might think that this sort of hairsplitting settles things, but it doesn't. The people watching saw it for what it was. Playing lawlerly games with the use of the word terrorism looks exactly like what it is, and people don't have patience for that kind of stuff.
As #70 said, Obama may have thought that would settle the matter. Instead, everyone is paying more attention to the whole Benghazi incident, along with knowing that he and Crowley colluded.
#61 - CNN said of their overwhelmingly positive comments on Crowley's performance, the question most raised was about the transcript. I posted it here twice. They said she had it with her because she had selected the questions herself, and needed transcripts to refresh her memory and to refer to, if needed, during the Town Hall debate. But why did both of them refer to that particular transcript, which had nothing to do with the question of why were the ambassador's requests for aid denied?
#68 - Crowley and Obama should no way have met and discussed the questions to be discussed, since Crowley chose the questions, herself. Did Obama help her select the ones that worked to his advantage? Any discussion between the two of them would be an extreme case of 'conflict of interest' and is probably against the rules of the Town Hall-style debate. However, Crowley changed the rules to suit herself. Now we know why.
Candy Cowlike met obama at the White House or at least was at the White House withing the week prior to the debate. She was subject overplaying her probably-longed-for time in the political arena spotlight--A career or portfolio booster.
I think she at least told him she would have the transcripts and info for the questions and I wouldn't put it past her to have given him the questions.
Inserting herself into the debate was a gift to all of us who hate the media bias as a threat to democracy. Who knows, if it continues we might have a socialist in th eWhite House who gives a cabinet position to an avowed Communist and is so sure of media cover that doesn't even hesitate on many unprecedented actions or inactions. s/
That Romney recovered the double shock blow o and C landed is the good part. He will be able to handle Putin and China and Iran, IMO. And will have a think tank to help him and I bet he puts aside old animosities to do so. An extraordinary man, and Veep and recovery in sight. God willing.
It may not fully make up for President Obama’s gutting of America’s manned spaceflight program, but for now it will have to do. Star Trek’s Galileo, the fiberglass shuttlecraft featured on the “The Galileo Seven” episode of the classic ’60s sci-fi series, was officially unveiled Wednesday at Space Center Houston, the official museum/visitor center of NASA´s Johnson Space Center, where it will remain on permanent display. If nothing else, the Galileo development program proved far less costly than NASA’s $9 billion next-generation space program, Constellation, which fell victim to Mr. Obama’s budget ax in 2010.
President Obama, who extolled the value of middle-class construction jobs during nearly five years of recession and recovery, has changed his tune to borderline contempt for the blue-collar jobs needed to build the Keystone oil pipeline. In a speech in Chattanooga, Tenn., Mr. Obama actually chuckled derisively Tuesday when he mentioned that Republican lawmakers are promoting the pipeline project for the thousands of jobs it would create over two years. “They keep on talking about this — an oil pipeline coming down from Canada that’s estimated to create about 50 permanent jobs,”
Two New York Times reporters recently posited for President Obama this grim scenario: Low growth, high unemployment, and growing income inequality become "the new normal" in the nation he leads. "Do you worry," the journalists asked him, "that that could end up being your legacy simply because of the obstruction ... and the gridlock that doesn´t seem to end?" Obama´s reply was telling. "I think if I´m arguing for entirely different policies and Congress ends up pursuing policies that I think don´t make sense and we get a bad result," he said, "it´s hard to argue that´d be my legacy.
A military court Tuesday convicted Army Pfc. Bradley Manning of violating the Espionage Act for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks, a verdict that legal analysts say likely will have a chilling effect on others considering revealing government secrets. While Manning, 25, was acquitted of the most serious charge — aiding the enemy, which carried a penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole — he still faces up to 136 years in prison when he is sentenced at Fort George G. Meade, Md. The sentencing hearing, which starts Wednesday
A Saudi Arabian activist said his government provided Egypt´s military with $1 billion to stage a coup against former president Mohammed Morsi and install interim leadership. Political activist Mujtahid bin Hareth bin Hammaam, who operates an active Twitter campaign aimed at exposing corruption in the Saudi government, said Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received the money on July 3, United Press International reported. The reason for the payoff, he alleged, was so Egypt’s transfer of power would flow smoothly. But now the Saudi government isn’t sure it spent its money wisely, he said.
Republican lawmakers blasted a proposal by President Obama on Tuesday to cut corporate taxes in exchange for more spending on job-training programs, calling it a revival of a failed plan that would raise taxes initially. “It’s just a further-left version of a widely panned plan he already proposed two years ago — this time, with extra goodies for tax-and-spend liberals,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican. “The tax hike it includes is going to dampen any boost businesses might otherwise get to help our economy.” Mr. Obama visited an Amazon.com distribution center in Chattanooga, Tenn.,
Writing at RealClearPolitics, Heather Wilhelm says that she’s moving from Chicago to Austin, Texas soon. Howdy and welcome! Her move has generated the usual liberal reaction — “Oh, good, because Austin is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the rest of Texas.” Implying, or often outright stating, that the rest of Texas is a relic of the Neanderthal era with a strong dose of that old time religion that liberals fear and loathe so much. The reaction amuses her, as it should. This deep-seated fear of the ills of religion is intriguing, given that in both books, said ills
The consensus response to President Obama’s Knox College speech on the economy is that the administration has been reduced to pushing a menu of stale and timid policies that, in any case, won’t be enacted. But what if the administration isn’t actually out of ideas? What if Obama’s boldest policy initiative is merely something he’d rather not discuss? And what if that initiative is being enacted right now? A year ago, I published Spreading the Wealth: How Obama Is Robbing the Suburbs to Pay for the Cities. There I described the president’s second-term plan to press a transformative
Hollywood’s James Woods took to Twitter to condemn a recent Rolling Stone magazine edition that seemed to glorify terrorism by splashing a rock-star-type photograph of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on its cover. His weekend tweet included a mock-up of a Rolling Stone cover with the head shot of the 8-year-old boy, Martin Richard, who was killed in the April 15 blast. Mr. Woods‘ accompanying Twitter text: “Rolling Stone cover we will never see.” On Monday, the tweet was still making social media waves, with nearly 700 retweets and more than 260 ‘favorites’ clicks.
The FBI has told Congress it does not need to get a warrant to conduct surveillance with drones, in a letter laying out some of the top federal law enforcement agency’s policies for how it uses unmanned aerial vehicles. In a July 19 letter to Sen. Rand Paul, Stephen D. Kelly, assistant director for the FBI’s congressional liaison office, said the agency has used drones in 10 instances, including twice for “national security” cases and eight times for criminal cases. The FBI authorized the use of drones in three other criminal cases but didn’t deploy them.
Via Hot Air and Byron York, Barack Obama has crossed the constitutional Rubicon. The die is cast. He realizes as much, and is daring Congress to stop him in the pixels of the New York Times. NYT: People questioned your legal and constitutional authority to do that unilaterally — to delay the employer mandate. Did you consult with your lawyer? MR. OBAMA: Jackie, if you heard me on stage today, what I said was that I will seize any opportunity I can find to work with Congress to strengthen the middle class, improve their prospects, improve their security
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
FORNEY, Texas - George Zimmerman, the former Florida neighborhood watch leader cleared of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, was pulled over for speeding in North Texas on Sunday, CBS DFW reports. According to the station, Zimmerman was armed when officers pulled him over on Highway 80 in Forney, east of Dallas. (Snip) The officer reportedly did not recognize Zimmerman, who was driving a Honda pickup. Zimmerman told the officer he was armed and was then told to put the weapon in his glove compartment, according to the station.
Arizona Sen. John McCain was the Republican Party´s 2008 presidential nominee and he still wants the keys to the Oval Office. But he is beginning to sound more like a fan of likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. "She´s a rock star," he said in a newly released interview. "She has, maybe not glamour, but certainly the aura of someone widely regarded throughout the world," he added in a reference to her work as secretary of State. McCain, reportedly trying to win back his reputation as a GOP maverick, was asked by the New Republic
President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that
Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.
Embattled Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner and an attorney in the Federal Election Commission’s general counsel’s office appear to have twice colluded to influence the record before the FEC’s vote in the case of a conservative non-profit organization, according to e-mails unearthed by the House Ways and Means Committee and obtained exclusively by National Review Online. The correspondence suggests the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC, where an attorney from the agency’s enforcement division in at least one case sought and received tax information about the status of a conservative group,
Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
No matter how much you may hope for it, it seems unlikely that you´ll be using the phrase "Senator Sarah Palin" with any great regularity in 2015. A new poll indicates that the former Alaska governor is about as popular in the state as Barack Obama — which is to say, not very popular at all. But even more surprising, while the former vice presidential candidate has made Alaska a central part of her public image, the state´s residents split on the question of whether Palin is all that Alaskan. Conducted by Public Policy Polling,
In her first speech since taking over the Environmental Protection Agency, Gina McCarthy came out swinging Tuesday and promised to ramp up the aggressive climate change agenda laid out by President Obama.(snip)“Can we stop talking about environmental regulations killing jobs? Please, at least for today,” she said during remarks at Harvard Law School. “We need to cut carbon pollution to grow jobs. We need to cut carbon pollution to strengthen the economy. Let’s talk about it positively. Let’s approach this as an opportunity of a lifetime. There are too many lifetimes at stake.”
Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey — whose most recent work includes the psychological thriller, “House of Cards,” about an unethical congressman — said in a recent interview that most Americans just aren’t grasping President Obama’s greatness. “President Obama will go down as having passed some of the most historic bills in the history of this country,” he said, in a recent talk with Hot Press magazine. “That despite constant knee-jerk opposition from the Republicans. A lot of people don’t realize how much he’s done in the most difficult circumstances.” Mr. Spacey is far less appreciative of Congress. “It’s maybe interesting
A sex tape that Monica Lewinsky recorded for Bill Clinton at the height of their scandalous affair has leaked, during which the former White House intern is heard planning a secret sexual rendezvous with the president and declaring she is “too cute and adorable” to be ignored. On the audio tape obtained by The National Enquirer, Lewinsky at one point tries to seduce the commander in chief: “I could take my clothes off and start… well… I know you wouldn’t enjoy that? I hope to see you later and I hope you will follow my script and do what
