The Obama-Crowley Set-Up
National Review Online, by John Yoo

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 10/18/2012 7:03:46 PM

Most observers seem to agree that the Barack Obama–Mitt Romney–Candy Crowley debate over whether the attack on our Benghazi consulate resulted from terrorism was the low point for the Republican candidate. While Romney turned out to be right on the substance, he was clearly flustered by Crowley’s intervention in Obama’s favor on the question of the president had called the attack an act of terror the day after. An old-time political hand in D.C., whom I know and who has advised and worked on many campaigns, is utterly convinced that the exchange was a setup

FTA: Romney, of course, should go into the next debate assuming that the moderator, as a member of the working media, will have a conscious or unconscious bias against him and will shade things in favor of the incumbent.

Bob Schieffer, biased?!? No way!

/s off/

Honestly, the way I see it, I thought the gist of this article would be that it was a setup by the ROMNEY campaign for the next debate.

Romney now has the President on record, taking yet another untenable position into the last debate that will FEATURE this topic. The setup is there for Romney to deliver a knockout blow to Obama. Obama has now told the world that he KNEW it was a terrorist attack within 24 hours of the event. Now, that just begs the question as to why the sudden wholesale move to a story that involved a guy with a camcorder and a YouTube account.

If Romney plays this right (and he will, trust me), then Obama has a lot of explaining to do and frankly, there is no answer other than he decided to mount a campaign of disinformation to deflect blame away from his administration. Obama is hung out to dry on this and Obama/Crowley have played an unwitting role in a gambit that will have proven fatal to his campaign.

Why the Fat Lady was allowed to have anything other than DEBATE related material (ground rules, script -- which by the way appears on a telepromter in the screen in front of her -- for opening remarks, etc., a timer -- also in view of candidates --, or the questions of the audience) should never have been allowed.

But the Fat Lady was telegraphing for at least a week that she intended to disregard the agreed-upon rules of the debate. Of course, Obama agreed to change the rules in the middle of the game, so Romney was forced to acquiese to the Fat Lady's whims.

Fat Lady should have been thanked for her prior willingness to moderate and another RAT infested media whore should have been selected for the job once she determined she could not do the job as required.

I called it a "cooperative setup" on a thread here yesterday....based on the same evidence: Obama immediately called to Fudge Crowley, "Get the Transcript!"

I was screaming at the TV.

Curiously, Candy Crowley is on RECORD, two weeks ago during Sunday program, asking someone at the WH why it took so long to clarify "terrorist" activity responsible NOT uTube ditty. Odd that this is not being used in Mr. Yoo's article and many others. Obviously, since she pointed this out then, she was covering for zero at the debate. Just saying...

Reply 11 - Posted by: bighambone, 10/18/2012 8:38:10 PM     (No. 8944094)

No matter what happened, Obama and crew have been deceptive with the American people since the 9/11/12 Banghazi terrorist attack about what actually occurred. Being a smart ass in the last debate about that by parsing the words he uttered on 9/12/12 is not going to save him and his administration. Most likely he will not figure that out until the votes are counted on election day.

At Debates.org, in the lower left (isn't that a coincidence) corner, there is a link to send a message. I suggest that everyone does to voice their displeasure at this shameless biased display because clearly there was coordination between Crowley and Obama.

Yes, I thought it was a setup too. She went straight to shuffling some papers and had the answer in front of her. Yeah right.

Reply 14 - Posted by: Safari Man, 10/18/2012 9:41:07 PM     (No. 8944205)

The article doesn't mention Crowley held up some sheet of paper as she defended Obama. Its still unclear to me if that was the transcript, but it sure appeared to be. In any case, from Romney's perspective, it would have looked like she was reading directly from the transcript, which further put Romney at a disadvantage.

Their little trick isn't going to same him. But maybe she'll get a place of honor in his museum, which he can start working on 01/20/2013.

Reply 16 - Posted by: lostinmassachusetts, 10/18/2012 10:06:02 PM     (No. 8944266)

To me, the proof that this was a setup was Obama's saying "Proceed Governor" with a wise-guy grin when Romney started to bring up the issue. You could tell he had some trick up his sleeve, and sure enough, that was the queue for Crowley to dig out the transcript to discredit what Romney was about to say. Too bad Romney didn't have time to ask why, if the President believed it was an "act of terror," he and his lackeys spent the next 14 days trying to deny it. My hope is that this issue won't day, but will come back to bite the administration in the days ahead.

Arrogant Obama played his hand one debate too early. He needed to have Schieffer have the transcripts at the ready, and make his bold assertion (lie) in the third debate. Now he's tipped his hand, allowed Romney a few days to regain his balance on the issue, develop an ironclad Benghazi offense and prosecute it next Monday night. Typical Obama... He thinks tactically, not strategically. In his arrogance, he fights battles cleverly, runs victory laps and then loses the war.

Reply 20 - Posted by: hammondb3, 10/18/2012 11:36:41 PM     (No. 8944470)

17,

I took Obama's "Proceed, Governor" in a completely different manner. Romney was personally confronting him at the time and my initial sense was that Obama just wanted Romney to move on and not put him on the spot. It was a very interesting exchange to be sure.

And, now with Obama's insistence upon having known it was a terrorist attack within 24 hours of the event (as he SHOULD have known, frankly) that opens up a world of hurt on the obfuscation that ensued for the next 14 days from multiple persons under Obama's direct control.

Again, if Romney plays this right (and I have every reason to believe that he will) then Obama is in yet another indefensible position.

For the chess players out there, Romney has a knight fork on O's King & Queen. And you can stick that fork in Obama when it is over for he will be done.

Watch the debate at the 1 hour and 06 minute mark. When Obama looks for Kerry Ladka in the audience BEFORE he reveals himself?

Didn't Crowley say she had the questions formulated the AM before - on Monday. How did Ladka and his brain trust come up with this question afterwards?

Notice Obama says Hi Kerry before he finds him and then corrects himself and starts looking around for him - realizing he was showing he knew too much.

Proceed Governor was Obama telling Romney he was about to step in it.

Dream On

WOLF BLITZER: Candy did what she was told: set Romney up or she’d become a stringer in Nairobi.
SCOTT PELLEY: I’m getting ticked. Carney just gave me a list of election night analysts acceptable to the White House.
BOB SCHIEFFER: On Monday, I’m supposed to ask Romney if he has any concerns about a Mormon in the Oval Office who is subject to his church’s elders. There’s also a court order restraining me from coming within 500 feet of Obama with a question which might appear harmless but could be used to bludgeon him.
BRIAN WILLIAMS: Remember when it was collaborative?
DIANE SAWYER: Yeah. Wasn’t so long ago they rolled over in the morning and kissed us and said they still respected us.
BLITZER: I’m tired of sucking up to these people.
JIM LEHRER: Look, we’re all progressives, but it’s way past time we put journalistic integrity before bootlicking.
SAWYER: Agreed. Let’s get our reputations back by reporting the news instead of spinning it.
BLITZER: I’m in. People, we have been flaming hypocrites for a long time. Time to make amends.
WILLIAMS: Join hands. Let’s remember what Benjamin Franklin wrote in 1776: ''We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.''

[Williams’ cell rings]

Hello. What? Damn! [hangs up] Word's already out we're turning. Starting tonight, NBC Nightly News is on a five minute tape delay.

Jack Cashill has a similar article as well at American Thinker. The fact is the MSM in person of Crow-ley told a lie to defend Obama. That is the 'tipping point' from yesterday. The press has been telling lies to help Obama and his so called presidency. They are liars assisting a liar in chief. And she knew she was lying to defend Obama. It was arranged for sure. This is also why the MSM has become an enemy to our country and our freedoms.

"Proceed, Governor" was Barry misreading his cards and thinking he was holding a straight flush.

He and everyone else knew the topic of the film lie would come up, and that he and Crowley had a routine worked out when it did.

When he arrogantly said, "proceed Governor", it was also his childish impatience tipping off the whole world that a trap of collusion had been set.

What must have gone through Crowley's mind when dumbell Barry exposed her as well as himself. So much for the myth of Barry's cool and intellect.

The sad part of all this is that she has been shuttled to the sidelines of media like so many women because we get older, puffier, and no longer 'relevant to men', if you will.

Rather than come on as an equal and make a name for herself as a feminist icon by holding them both to the fire, she ingratiated herself to men in such a way as to prop him up and diminish her stature.

She squandered a great opportunity.

I suggest that the debate format be changed. There should be TWO moderators; one chosen from each side.

Hate to say it, but this is what I thought right off the bat. Obama's confident "get the transcript"( twice) and Crowley just happening to HAVE the transcript is just too pat......I think the author lets her off the hook way too easily. She is a long term political newsperson, not some kid just off the boat, so she must have sensed her prepping, and at least tacitly agreed------and there is still the fact that she HAD the transcript at the ready. She is a huge embarrassment, but CNN is even more so for being so proud of her, constant interruptions during ROMNEY's key points non withstanding.

Honey Boo Boo’s don’t watch debates – serious people do, and they don’t fall for cheap tricks. Once again, the exploding cigar singes Obama’s eyebrows.

At this point, there is little question that there was collusion. The only questions remaining pertain to the extent, the depth, and the breadth of the collusion. The results have been plain for all to see, but as SOP for this administration, there is obfuscation up front, and frantic cleanup in the backgruund.

P.S. Good job, #26. Once again you nailed it.

THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE. The Cow Crowley proved her socialist O slanting shamelessly.
The really weak TV link is that FoxTVNews, for all the good they do, will not slam their fellow union newscasters along with their enemy politicians. On FoxTVNews, and most of unionized talk radio, Diane Sawyer and the entire Old Media crew get a virtual pass. The TV Mafia Media is the Protection Racket for all of the Beltway greed and crimes. The New Breitbartian Media attack must be versus ALL crooked politicians, bureaucrats, the Fed, etc, along with the commies in the traitorous old media.
If the Diane Sawyers were honest to their audience, we would not be in the severe mess
we find ourselves. The Benghazi Lie is the most recent and frightening issue to throw at all the Diane Sawyers. This is as obvious
a dishonest, blatant cover up as any reasonable person will ever need to see the work of TV network traitors to the truth.

In reading the many good comments on the subject today, I've seen several that presume Governor Romney will try to make his point again about what President Obama knew and when he knew it, i.e., ''...if Romney plays this right, and I have every reason to believe that he will...''

Certainly he has the ammunition to create what many of us see as a huge problem for President Obama and his White House cabal: please explain why for weeks they chose to blame a distasteful video as the cause of the Benghazi Conulate attack if the President, in fact, did initially label it a terror attack as he and CNN's Candy Crowely claimed.

Will Governor Romney take the opportunity? Or instead pressure the President on his total lack of leadership in the Iranian nuclear issue?

I guess we will know soon enough; Monday is a few days away.

The reason urkel kept looking down during the first debate was that a staff member had planted an iPad in his podium earlier to coach him and feed info. Long after the first debate was over and the stage cleared, cameras caught the same staffer retrieving the device. At the second debate, Candy was invited to the WH before hand and coached what to do when (not if) urkel got in trouble. Hence, the 'Candy...' prompts from Urkel and then she jumped right in and cut of Romney. An orchestrated ballet. These are wicked, evil people.

More interesting, still, is that Obama's answer to the Town Hall question was irrelevant, which means that the supposed transcript to support it was also irrelevant. (Town Hall participant, Kerry Ladka, asked 'who denied the embassy's request for aid on 9/11/12, and why').

How did Crowley know Obama was going to give an irrelevant answer?

It was reported here earlier in the week that Crowley had visited the White House the Sunday before the debate. It's almost as if they agreed that if the subject of Benghazi came up, this would be their answer, 'and stick with it.'

Romney will be ready to knock it out of the park at the final debate. No reason to go for the knockout in the 2nd debate. Save it for the final. I think Romney will be prepared and they are keeping Obama off balance. He could have creamed him this week, but why give him time to recover? Do it in the final debate. Romney is no dope.

I don't think Obama actually said during the debate that he called Benghazi an act of terror. He had Crowley do that for him. All he asked was that Romney proceed. Then he asked Crowley to look at the transcript (how did he know she had it in front of her?). When she said that he'd called it terror, he DID NOT agree with her. He just asked for her to repeat it more loudly.

Crowley did the dirty work for Obama, who could then say "I never said that" in subsequent debates and interviews.

Get the picture?

Look at the exchange between Crowley et al with the MUTE off.You can see her scripted
motions, to wit: move hands here, stand up, move hands/arms there--totally scripted appearing.Like a magician distracts from what is said by arm/hand movements.
In '08 Obama gave Obama and Hillary the finger by rubbing his cheek with his middle finger-Hillary in the primary and M'cain during the debates. The audience laughed both times. The finger was the side away from the moderator but the audience of morons caught it.
This time, Crowley was invited to the WH acc to reports on Sunday. That was when the
rehearsal took place. She even has WH docs!
Besides Meatloaf couldn't appear as moderator so she was the stand-in.Heh heh!

A few days ago Breitbart.com reported (link below) on how Candy Crowley had stepped into the exact same trap when interviewing David Axelrod on her “State of the Union” Show on 9/30. Following that interview, either Crowley pulled the transcript of Obama’s 9/12 rose garden speech or received a copy of it from someone on the Obama team (with a note to bring it with her to the debate?).

I am not trying to defend her actions - she could have said that although Obama used the phrase “acts of terror” in the 9/12 speech in which he also discussed the Benghazi attack, he made no effort to connect the two – but, by interrupting Romney and “settling the issue” of whether Obama said “act(s) of terror” during the 9/12 speech, she may have inadvertently saved Romney from jumping into the trap with both feet.

As it turned out, by drawing so much attention to that speech, the full transcript has come out - allowing anyone with an open mind to realize that Obama was lying. Nowhere in that speech did he identify the Benghazi attack as an act of terror.

My understanding is that Crowley was at the WH last Sunday before the debate. Looks to me like someone told her then or otherwise told her that Obama naturally expected some attacks from Romney on Benghazi and Obama told her to have several transcripts available. I don't think it was conspiratorial, just some coordination that sure should have been made more public and that the Romney campaign should have been informed of the transcripts being present during the debate. Maybe she did inform the Romney campaign. In any case, during the debate it ran letter perfect for Obama and he could even ask Crowley to go to the transcript, and even ask her to repeat it. Gotcha!
Or not quite so quick, Mr. Smarty Pants Liar... One problem, he was obviously misrepresenting the transcript contents and got caught and he now after the debate, looks desperate and dishonest for all to see.

They stupidly thought that it would settle their hot potato once & for all, & everyone would move on. But, instead, it opened a Pandora's box they can't shut.

Now even the talk shows & alphabet news networks are having to cover this story. Talk about an exploding cigar! They have built their own gallows. Thank you God, for allowing them to hang themselves with their own cheating bias!

The whole exchange was a set-up. Its obvious. Look at Obama's demeanor, his "Proceed, Governor" remark, then his telling Candy to say it louder. All very rehearsed.

He might think that this sort of hairsplitting settles things, but it doesn't. The people watching saw it for what it was. Playing lawlerly games with the use of the word terrorism looks exactly like what it is, and people don't have patience for that kind of stuff.

As #70 said, Obama may have thought that would settle the matter. Instead, everyone is paying more attention to the whole Benghazi incident, along with knowing that he and Crowley colluded.

Reply 69 - Posted by: LINGILLEN, 10/19/2012 9:45:31 PM     (No. 8946926)

#61 - CNN said of their overwhelmingly positive comments on Crowley's performance, the question most raised was about the transcript. I posted it here twice. They said she had it with her because she had selected the questions herself, and needed transcripts to refresh her memory and to refer to, if needed, during the Town Hall debate. But why did both of them refer to that particular transcript, which had nothing to do with the question of why were the ambassador's requests for aid denied?

#68 - Crowley and Obama should no way have met and discussed the questions to be discussed, since Crowley chose the questions, herself. Did Obama help her select the ones that worked to his advantage? Any discussion between the two of them would be an extreme case of 'conflict of interest' and is probably against the rules of the Town Hall-style debate. However, Crowley changed the rules to suit herself. Now we know why.

Candy Cowlike met obama at the White House or at least was at the White House withing the week prior to the debate. She was subject overplaying her probably-longed-for time in the political arena spotlight--A career or portfolio booster.

I think she at least told him she would have the transcripts and info for the questions and I wouldn't put it past her to have given him the questions.

Inserting herself into the debate was a gift to all of us who hate the media bias as a threat to democracy. Who knows, if it continues we might have a socialist in th eWhite House who gives a cabinet position to an avowed Communist and is so sure of media cover that doesn't even hesitate on many unprecedented actions or inactions. s/

That Romney recovered the double shock blow o and C landed is the good part. He will be able to handle Putin and China and Iran, IMO. And will have a think tank to help him and I bet he puts aside old animosities to do so. An extraordinary man, and Veep and recovery in sight. God willing.

Republicans on the House Oversight Committee say there will be “explosive” revelations that will come forth during the Committee’s hearing on Wednesday when three State Department witnesses reveal what they knew the night the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya were attacked by terrorists. Committee members will be hearing the testimonies of State Department employees Greg Hicks, Mark Thompson, and Eric Nordstrom. President Obama defiantly defended his reluctance to increase the U.S.intervention in Syria, saying he has yet to receive clear, corroborated evidence to back up initial intelligence reports of small-scale use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime and would not make a decision based on a “hope and a prayer.” Mr. Obama last summer said chemical use by Syrian leader Bashar Assad would be a “red line” that would change his calculus about authorizing U.S. action in that country’s civil war. After four years of trillion-dollar deficits, the red ink is receding rapidly in Washington, easing pressure on policymakers but shattering hopes for a summertime budget deal. Federal tax revenue is up and spending is down thanks to an improving economy, tax hikes enacted in January and the automatic budget cuts known as the sequester. The sunnier outlook means that President Obama will be able to pay the nation’s bills for months without seeking additional borrowing authority from Congress — probably until Oct. 1, according to independent forecasts.

When Harry Reid welcomed the 111th U.S. Congress in January 2009, his party was on the verge of having a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and control of the White House. The Democrats already had control of the House of Representatives, and in July they would get their 60th vote in the Senate as well. The sky was the limit. Yet it turned out to be, for Reid, a curse more than a blessing. The Democrats had spent most of the previous decade smearing George W. Benghazi was never about a movie. Ever. On the day of the attack in Benghazi, the US embassy in Cairo, Egypt had come under siege at the encouragement of al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. While the riot in Cairo was being blamed on the Nakoula Nakoula YouTube movie in the media, the Cairo riot was never really about the movie. Ever. The “Innocence of Muslims” movie, which the vast majority of the Cairo mob had never seen, was used by the riot’s leaders to stir up anger and bring out the crowd. But on September 10, 2012

I hope military and civilian policy makers carefully read Bing West’s post responding to various excuses advanced for failing to aid embattled Americans in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. I could never improve on a Bing West military analysis, but let me also add that September 11, 2012, was a profound moral failure. The degree of courage displayed that night was apparently inversely proportional to the decision-maker’s distance from Libya. The Americans on the scene fought valiantly, outgunned (by a rag-tag band of terrorists, no less; thanks to inexcusably negligent decisions to drawdown before the attack),

When it first became clear that the CIA’s Benghazi talking points had been altered, many of us viewed the White House as the prime suspect. After all, it served President Obama’s political purposes to claim, at the height of a political campaign in which he was taking credit for the fall of al Qaeda, that the death of a U.S. ambassador was down to spontaneous outrage over a video, rather than pre-planned terrorism. It turns out, however, that the State Department was the prime culprit. It was State that pushed back hard against the original talking points.

The GOP-led investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults that killed U.S. Ambassador J. University officials said they had "previously understood" that Hawking´s decision was based solely on health concerns — he is 71 and has severe disabilities — but had now been told otherwise by Hawking´s office.
