The Girl Who Wouldn't Die: Miracle of
Danish Girl Who Woke Up as Doctors
Were Preparing to Harvest Her Organs

Mail Online (UK), by Sara Malm

Original Article

Posted By:zephyrgirl, 10/17/2012 6:00:10 PM

A teenage girl in a coma after a catastrophic car crash came round just as doctors were about to declare her brain dead. Carina Melchior had had life support withdrawn on the advice of medics and was being prepared for organ donation. But to the astonishment of staff at the Aarhus Hospital, in Denmark, the 19-year-old suddenly opened her eyes and started moving her legs. She is now making a good recovery at a rehabilitation centre and is able to walk, talk and even ride her horse Mathilde.

Comments:
Frightening.

Question: Are "brain dead" people really dead? We used to say you were dead when your heart stopped and you stopped breathing. We invented brain death for the purpose of harvesting organs. Sometimes this is probably good if the person is really unconscious (how do we know?) and soon dying and their organs can help someone else. But there are a number of cases like this when people who have been declared brain dead or the looser "persistent vegitative state" unexpectedly revive. the problem is compounded when those making the decision to pull the plug have an interest in getting the organs, or the inheritance. or the freedom to marry someone else, or to help the hospital budget..

Jokes aside this is why everyone should keep his own counsel on organ donation and avoid being swayed by all the publicity and soul butter.

Ocassionally the do-gooders get carried away with burnishing their altruistic credentials and don't focus on the organs' original owner.

I am not an organ donor, nor do I have riches, so my kids won't be pushing for my death. The bad news is that being on Medicare I won't get the extra needed care so I'll be offed anyway.

I took my donor notice off my driver's license because I don't trust Obama's government or his government-approved doctors and death panels. I've told my husband and kids that if, like the Wicked Witch, I'm really most sincerely dead, they can do whatever they like with my organs. It's just not a decision I'm willing to blindly turn over to bureaucrats.

For months Mrs C (a medical type) read to a lady who was brain dead. She spoke to her, sang to her and even fixed her hair.
Then one day the lady woke up. She remembered it all.
It was a bit of an eye opener, so to speak.

Jefferson County, Colo. - A judge ruled on Friday that there is enough evidence for a teen to stand trial for murder and attempted abduction about an hour after prosecutors played a 911 tape where Austin Sigg admitted to killing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway and to trying to kidnap a female jogger. The five-minute recording played during a Friday preliminary hearing began with the teen´s mother, Mindy Sigg, calling 911 on the night of Oct. 23, 2012. "I need you to come to my house, my son wants to turn himself in for Jessica Ridgeway's murder," the mother tells a dispatcher.

Only four doctors in the U.S. offer third-trimester abortions, knowing they risk their own lives every day to carry out such controversial procedures. These doctors are the subject of a documentary screened at the Sundance film festival last weekend, forty years after the legalization of abortion in the U.S. and four years after Dr Tiller. Physician George Tiller was a prominent practitioner of late-term abortions shot dead by an extremist in 2009. The documentary After Tiller is named for him and focuses on the few remaining doctors who perform abortions in the third trimester of a pregnancy. The Supreme Court granted states the right to limit abortions in the final three months of a pregnancy.

Is the Washington National Cathedral the spiritual center of the nation? In the mind of the liberal Episcopal cathedral’s new dean, it should be. Such an assertion would surprise many of America’s churchgoers, the vast majority of whom are not even Oldline Protestants, let alone Episcopalians. But since assuming leadership of the Cathedral in October, Dean Gary R. Hall has frequently spoken of the church’s role as being “at the center” of American public life.

It was reported today the disgraced politician and Hunter get so frisky and loud during their bedtime trysts, they have received complaints about the noise. The former presidential candidate, 59, is said to spend most nights at the Chapel Hill home he recently bought for Rielle and a source told The National Enquirer: ´It has pretty much turned into his booze and sex romp hideaway.´

When it comes to becoming a physician, the academic rigors, years of schooling, and personal sacrifice common to the effort are well-known. This process is a sort of rite of passage, an intellectual marathon that only the best and brightest can complete. As such, medical schools should select candidates best-suited to excel throughout school and cultivate the skills that will allow them to practice in the best health care system in the world. The process by which these candidates are selected, however, may come as a shock.

It was where he and his parents had grown up. President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth.
