"Can you say that a little louder, Candy?" Obama craved more credit from the moderator, Candy Crowley, for her correction to Mitt Romney that the president had in fact used the word "terror" a day after the killing of his ambassador in Libya. "He did, in fact, sir," Crowley said to Romney. Obama savored his "victory" in that round, but it was a hollow and disturbing one. Either he already knew it was an act of premeditated terrorism -- in which case he proceeded to lie for two weeks about that on The View, David Letterman, and at the UN --
Seriously. folks. How hard would it have been for Mitt to turn to Candy and say ''I'm sorry Candy - no, he did not call this out as a terrorist act and your network failed to present the facts surrounding this event for more than a week after it occurred. And I'd ask that you restrict yourself to moderating and not participating unless you're a candidate!''
One of the worst "moderating" jobs I've ever seen. Everything from time management to impartiality to selection of questions. Butting her face into siding w/ Barry on Libya revealed her true colors. Forget she later walked back her comments; the damage was already done.
And what was that hot-mic moment all about, when we heard Ms. Crowley say "Yeah, right". Who was she speaking to? Her off-camera DNC coaches?
I knew this group of "undecided" voters would give Crowley plenty of opportunity to cherry pick Democrat inspired questions, and she did. To Romney AND Obama: How are you different from Bush Mr. Romney? She also made sure Obama could hype his worn out Lilly Ledbetter talking points. Just a couple of examples.
Ok folks, I despise Ms. Crowley's partisan hack and totally inappropriate tactics as much as anyone, but the snarky name-calling about her appearance is uncalled for and makes us look bad. We can discuss substance here without resorting to being 12-year-old mean girls.
Is anybody surprised? Their Candy cannot keep her fingers out of the pie--or her voice out of the debate--why do we put ourselves through these ordeals when the moderator is sitting with the Nobama? We always wring our hands afterwards -- the writing was on the wall before it began. Ah ha, however, Governor and soon to be President Romney kept his calm and didn't call her out immediately! Nobama is a loser, will be the loser.
By the time they got to this question, it was so out of control, nothing would have surprised me. I couldnt believe Obama actually asked her to confirm he was right.. this is an outrage, but it took the wind out of Romney. He couldnt fight both of them. But, look out for the next debate. Its all foreign policy, and Obama cant continue to lie about the actually facts. Romney better drive this home.
Candy wanted desperately to go down in history as the best debate moderator of modern times. The list of her errors is growing larger by the minute. But what could we expect with 4 of the moderators chosen being known liberal Democrats? Bob Schieffer is no better than the rest! He knows how important the last debate is and he'll do everything in his power to make sure Obama comes out looking like a winner. I refuse to be discouraged over Obama's "stellar performance" as one of MSNBC's copycat analysts declared. Why don't these talking heads wait for the polls to come out, to see if Romney lost any of his women votes, to see if the numbers remain virtually unchanged from what they were pre-debate? If Candy had given Romney even part of the extra minutes she gave Obama, Romney could have answered her questions fully. Obama even lies when telling the truth would serve him better !!
How was it Crowley was so quick to jump in and side with Obama? If she was so well prepped, she'd have known what was in the transcript. It looks like her prep was to collude with the Dims, facts be damned. Backing off later is meaningless, the bell is rung. As bad as the old media are, this is their Watergate moment.
Candy walked it back on her own network after the debate saying Romney was right in the main but used the wrong word. In fact the Obama reference to terrorism in the Rose Garden was generalized and not applied to the Libya attack. Romney was totally correct and Obama was lying with the backing of Candy the moderator. This whole affair looks to me like a set up by in the tank media!
These comments on Crowley's size (or Michelle's rear or whatever) do NOTHING to advance our case and in fact they take the focus off the real issues and place them squarely on nasty name calling---------and the real facts are lost in the bombast!
Obama had deception written all over his face when Romney was questioning him about his Rose Garden comments, until Candy bailed him out. Once she did, audible cheers (from a ''non-cheering'' audience) arose. How likely is it that ''undecided'' voters would so readily cheer for one candidate?
Regardless, the quote will now draw more scrutiny; and Romney will have a chance to refute it at the final debate.
Lsat night's debate featured the Obama/Crowley team vs. Mitt Romney, and the outrageous unfairness of it did not go unnoticed. But then again, Candy told everyone she was going to inject herself into the game.
I wonder if debate viewers realize that Crowley and her backers at CNN really believe the American people are stupid and that her cunning ploys would be overlooked.
We're preaching to the choir here, folks. Instead we should take our outrage to email@example.com and let the organizers know that we want a fair, open discussion of the issues that face our country so that the informed voter can make a choice between candidates. No more shills for one or the other.
What a narcissistic windbag. She had to overstep her contractual bounds in order to demonstrate her own (self-) importance. She isn't fit to shine Jim Lehrer or Bob Schieffer's shoes (and she couldn't bend over to do so, in any case). Who picked this train wreck?
#38: I do too. And I want journalists to point out that Romney was essentially correct because Obama did NOT characterize the Benghazi attack as an act of terror in the rose garden that day. He vaguely referenced acts of terror after setting the meme for the press (which they slavishly took and adhered to) of the video being the issue and the "protest" being spontaneous.
Candy Crowley should never work in journalism again. Time to retire.

If she broker her contract, does she still get paid? I still don't have a good picture of just how we ended up with this particular "not a potted plant" woman moderating a Presidential debate.
Did anyone notice how, during this exchange, Obama quickly said to Candy "Get the transcript Candy"? It was so quick and Candy was so ready that it smacked of collusion. Not a surprise, but a point that may add to the weight of the argument.
The questions weren't all bad; Mitt was excellent in differentiating himself from W and in explaining how he has been mischaracterized by many in the media and in the electorate. Having said that, he blew the Bengazi question by not simply asking why the officials were left unprotected on 9/11, end of story. Forget that Rose Garden baloney.
The Little Boy hides behind Hillary on Benghazi, behind Crowley as his overblown cheerleader and assistant in the 10/16 debate and behind Michelle as his, whatever. Apparently the only thing Obama can do all by himself is lie. This is what total emasculation looks like. It's not pretty and it's not what a successor to Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy and Reagan should look like.
Regarding comments posted at lucianne.com as 'preaching to the choir,' don't you believe it. This blog is every bit as well read as is Drudge. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that all Congress Critters, news outlets, big business, lobbyists and journalists, etc. have staff whose only assignment is to read and report the observations posted here.
The question about President Bush was despicable and should not have been allowed in this debate. Also, I found the people in the sudience asking the questions to have that unmistakable liberal East Coast attitude.
When are the Republicans going to insist on a few pro-Republican moderators? Do we have to use a rotating selection of Liberal NPR, CBS, CNN types exclusively? Or better yet, why not eliminate moderating entirely? But if moderating is absolutely necessary, why not two moderators, one to help Obama as usual, and one to act professional?
#2 Ensign O'Toole heavy or not, Welles and Raymond Burr were both handsome. The oddly named totalitarian Candy looked more like Lon Chaney. PLEASE LUCIANNE EVERYBODY, stop calling these collectivists "liberal". Liberal means Founding Fathers...freedom. Call them Marxists, communists, reds, lefty statists, authoritarians, destroyers, fascists, fellow travelers, commies, democrats, Lenin lovers, Hitlerians, BUT NOT LIBERALS! Please.
There's something about ex-NPR people that doesn't allow them to escape the long brainwashing sessions. Juan Williams was okay when Fox first hired him from the spider's next but the liberal disease soon returned.
I am with one of the previous posters, I could not watch. The candy horse was in the tank for the bammykins, it was plain to anyone who did watch. I tried, really, I just cannot look at the black idiot or listen to him.
Crowley's major offense against Romney was not a spur-of-the-moment and wrong comment on the word "terror," but the studied exclusion of the issue of Obamacare so detested by the majority of voters, as well as any question on the time-bombs of S.S. & Medicare.
Media and Crowley agree this morning that Romney was correct on substance. He could have phrased it better.
However, the point Romney made was that 0-bama jetted off to Vegas and other fundraisers while events in Libya were still unfolding. 0-bama did not address this point. His defense was that he made a speech in the Rose Garden the next day – as if that somehow absolves him of any further obligation. That deflected the exchange to a nitpick point as to whether 0-bama used the word “terror” in his remarks – which is 100% irrelevant to Romney’s original critique.
Romney also neglected to mention 0-bama’s OWN speech to the U.N. in which he mentioned the video at least 6 times, but never once referred to the attack as terrorism. -0- attacked the maker of the video, not the terrorists.
When the POTUS has to look to a lib moderator to save him from his opponent (and from the truth), the POTUS is in trouble. And this one is. He looked like the weak man that he is. "Candy! Candy! Help, Candy, help!"
#15 tv is a visual medium and Ms crowley's appearance was very distracting. A viewer seeing this woman for the first time would spend a lot of time just trying to figure out whether they were actually looking at a woman or a man, dressed as a woman. In radio the voice is on display, in tv the appearance is on display. Aside from her unpleasant look her job as a moderator was criminal and she should be barred from ever moderating another debate.
Given the quality of the moderators during these debates, I'm surprised Honey Boo Boo wasn't selected as a debate moderator. She would have done at least as well as the others, and she did, let us not forget, endorse Obama on Jimmy Kimmel's show.
Not mentioned yet was the time alotted to Gov. Romney and Pres. Obama.
I remember the clock being on screen when Romney was speaking, but not so much when Obama was speaking.
Romney was continually being interrupted by Crowley and told that he would get his time later, to just wait. But that never happened. In the end, Obama had minutes more time than Romney. But from what was said, and shown, I really thought Romney was getting the lion's share of the time.
For the truly undecided, this shold have been eye opening, if they wanted their eyes opened.
Maybe the GOP wll finally get serious about who they permit to moderate debates. They've allowed the libs to dominate the process far too long. Time to quit being the Stupid Party when it comes to debates and demand balance and objectivity in the choice of moderators.
And did anyone mention the applause from the reporter's section (as reported on Drudge) when Romney's wealth was mentioned. No bias there. Now wonder there is no respect left for the Press, and that of course includes Crowley, who a week earlier on HER program had asked why Obama insisted on saying it was an attack based on that video when it had been concluded everywhere else it was a terrorist attack. She really is ethical, eh.
I had an elderly aunt like Candy Crowly. She always tried her best to be outstanding but something always rained on her parade. She was lots of fun but never had all the pieces together at the same time. We had some great laughs together but, for some reason, I always felt sorry for her. I still laugh about the time she made me a birthday cake and forgot to use the baking powder and then forgot the candles..We just piled ice cream on it and had a blast. I miss her, even after nearly fifty years. Enjoy your retirement, Candy. You've earned it.
Yes, the name calling is not really necessary. From this part of the world, I was really shocked to see how the moderator was behaving. One wonders whether she was not paid before the debate to do what she did. Or even promised something. I tend to believe either one because of the way Obama looked her straight in the eye and said "Can you say that a little louder, Candy ?" That was a set up against Romney. However, I'm sure I'm not the only one to have seen this and I don't think the hardworking, decent, law abiding Americans who have ethics and values missed what happened. Romney did very well considering what he had up against him. He certainly didn't come across as being arrogant, disdainful and disrespectful, all the while showing us that he really means what he says, that he's going to try and put America back on track. OMG, Obama Must Go !
The name calling stays! If they don't like it the Øtard-loving bunch of hypocritical, trolls can go find a nice cliff to lemming off of and make everyone's life a little nicer. You people that like to continue to fight like little girls need to wake up and smell the coffee. We're in a street fight. Are you wanting a remake of Bob Dole and John McCain's campaigns? Don't come blubbering that we lost the fight but we fought it nicely. Sheesh. Find Mike Royko's definition of a "Whoogee".
Crowley's unfortunate physical aspects are very much germane to this discussion. She is one of a class of women who are bright and hardworking, but, because of their appearance have a definite pathology. I am a normal sized, smart, and yes, fairly pretty woman and I have been dealing with the unattractive heavy smart girls all my working life. Some of them are true joys to know and work with and their inner beauty shines on out, but, others like Crowley are simply OUT TO GET someone BECAUSE it is THEIR TURN or WHATEVER. Yes, that was shouting, because that is how they are.
This was Crowley's turn in the spotlight and she blew it big time because she wanted the kool kids in the DNC to like her, and to really see her. Instead she goes down in history as a joke who sold out her integrity and professionalism in order to participate in some very cheap tricks. I think it all hit her in the light of day just how much she threw away and that is why she so desperately tried to walk it back all day. If she had simply done a good and fair job, she would be the object of admiration instead of just another sell out and thus the subject of a lot of fat jokes.
Washington -- Federal authorities investigating the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi have filed charges against Ahmed Abu Khattalah, leader of a Libyan militia that officials believe was involved in the assault, people briefed on the investigation said. The charges under seal are the first criminal counts to emerge from the probe. The investigation of the attack last September 11 that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others continues, these people said, as investigators try to build their case against Khattalah and others who authorities believe were involved.
The car bearing Allen West to the Capitol pulls over so the former House member can show identification to a security guard. The officer recognizes him instantly and pushes West´s ID away. Then he reaches into the passenger-side window and pulls the Army veteran in for a bro-hug. "We gotta get you back here," the officer says. "Oh, I´ll be back," West replies, flashing his slightly gap-toothed smile. "Tell the fellas." The truth is, Allen West never really left. During his single term in the House, which ended in January, he carved a path as distinctive as his trademark
One of my law partners sent me this joke in an email: Ammo is getting scarce! But this morning I lucked out and was able to buy two boxes of ammo. I placed the boxes on the front seat and headed back home, but stopped at a gas station where a drop-dead gorgeous blonde in a short skirt was filling up her car at the next pump. She glanced at the two boxes of ammo, bent over and leaned in my passenger window, and said in a sexy voice, “I’m a big believer in barter, old fella.
When Virginia’s Republican lieutenant governor, Bill Bolling, announced earlier this year that he wouldn’t be running as an independent in the gubernatorial race, he expressed his hope for an honorable and informative campaign season. “I encourage them to run campaigns that are worthy of Virginia,” he said, referring to Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe and GOP nominee Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, “campaigns that focus on the big issues facing our state and offer a positive vision for the future of Virginia.” Bolling must be disappointed. To start, there’s the ongoing investigation into Gov. Bob McDonnell
Keeping up with the life and times of gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe and former GreenTech Automotive CEO is challenging. Just as my latest op-ed pertaining to the Virginia Democrat and GTA was being edited another potentially devastating investigation associated with McAuliffe surfaces. As President of the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, a nonprofit news organization, I understand the news waits for nobody. But come on, Terry! If I don’t see my wife soon, she will do her best impression of the GTA legal team and file her own papers. On Friday, Watchdog reported, “Government documents released Friday
Texas state senator Wendy Davis spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Monday afternoon about her 13-hour filibuster of a bill limiting late-term abortion, her life story, and her future in politics. Davis has become a champion for pro-choice activists, but during her recent whirlwind national media tour, she never commented on late-term abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted of murder in May for killing infants moments after they were born. Following her Press Club speech on Monday, THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked Davis to explain the difference between the late-term abortions that the Texas state
Liz Cheney must have known what was coming. Carpetbagger, the critics would call her. How dare she run for a U.S. Senate seat from Wyoming, where she had never really lived? But she bulled ahead anyway, a creature of Washington never before on any ballot, launching a first-time, difficult run for national office from Wyoming, the land of her forebears. Just like her father did 35 years ago. And he won. Anyone trying to tweeze out the strands of political DNA linking former vice president Dick Cheney and his first-born daughter Liz can start there —
Hillary Clinton is meeting with diet guru Dr. Mark Hyman — who’s credited with turning around Bill Clinton’s health — as she prepares for a 2016 presidential run. She was spotted dining with Hyman at the West Street Grill in Litchfield, Conn., Sunday night. Sources say Hillary, who was accompanied by four Secret Service agents and two troopers, drove an hour from her home in Chappaqua for the three-hour dinner with Hyman and his girlfriend. Hyman runs the Ultra Wellness Center in Lenox, Mass., which helps promote healthy weight and metabolism. The center’s Web site home page
Reagan and Mr. Bush didn’t win because they drew more conservatives. They won because they performed well with independents and moderates. Reagan beat Jimmy Carter among independents by 25 points, while Mr. McCain lost that group by eight points. The Gipper prevailed among moderates by six points, while Mr. Romney lost them by 15. What these numbers show is that moderate candidates aren’t automatic winners any more than are conservative candidates. John McCain has made a career-long fetish of cultivating his maverick reputation, but he performed far more poorly among independent voters than did the much more partisan Reagan.
The U.S. Army is refusing to suspend contracts with dozens of companies and individuals tied to Al Qaeda and other extremist groups out of concern for their "due process rights," despite repeated pleas from the chief watchdog for Afghanistan reconstruction. In a scathing passage of his latest report to Congress, Special Inspector General John Sopko said his office has urged the Army to suspend or debar 43 contractors over concerns about ties to the Afghanistan insurgency, "including supporters of the Taliban, the Haqqani network and al Qaeda." Sopko wrote that the Army "rejected" every single case.
Major League Baseball has agreed to 50-game suspensions with 12 players for their roles in the Biogenesis case, multiple media reported Monday. Alex Rodriguez was expected to be served with the harshest penalty, and an announcement was expected later Monday. Initially confirmed by FoxSports.com, the players to have agreed to the suspensions without the right to appeal are: • Nelson Cruz, Rangers outfielder. • Everth Cabrera, Padres shortstop. • Jhonny Peralta, Tigers shortstop. • Antonio Bastardo, Phillies reliever. • Jordany Valdespin, Mets outfielder. • Francisco Cervelli, Yankees catcher. • Jesus Montero, Mariners catcher. • Cesar Puello, Mets outfield prospect. • Sergio Escalona, Houston Astros pitching prospect.
British Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey had a terrible premonition as he saw the gas lights being lit in London on the evening of August 3, 1914. Knowing that Britain would declare war on Germany the next day, he was moved to observe — “The lamps are going out all over Europe. We shall not see them lit again in our lifetime.” Skip ahead another 99 years. On August 4, 2013, for Americans either traveling and living abroad in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, there was a different kind of lights out — the sudden and total shutdown
In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes
For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”
A poll released Friday by Public Policy Polling found that Alaska voters would pick former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the state´s former Republican governor, Sarah Palin, if the two women were to face off in the 2016 presidential election. Clinton led with 49 percent in the hypothetical match-up, with Palin at 40 percent, a nine-point gap. As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. The last time Alaskans opted for the Democrats´ presidential candidate was in 1964. Clinton trails five other hypothetical GOP candidates –
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus threatened to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for 2016 GOP presidential primary debates if the networks moved ahead with plans to air films on Hillary Clinton. “If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor,” Preibus said in a statement. In individual letters to CNN President Jeff Zucker and NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt,
The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential
Oprah Winfrey on Monday said the killings of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till are the "same thing." This transpired during an interview with The Grio that aired on NBC´s Today show. OPRAH WINFREY: It´s so easy during this time: Trayvon Martin, Trayvon Martin parallel to Emmett Till, let me just tell you. In my mind, same thing. But you can, you can get stuck in that and not allow yourself to move forward and to see how far we´ve come. Really? Martin and Till are the same thing?
