An ‘Appropriate’ fiasco
New York Post, by John Podhoretz

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 10/11/2012 5:27:58 AM

At yesterday’s incendiary, four-hour hearing in Washington, congressional Republicans ripped into two high-ranking State Department officials who struggled to explain away the administration’s utterly baffling behavior before and after the murder of four Americans in Benghazi on Sept. 11. The spectacle was agonizing. The officials — Charlene Lamb and Patrick Kennedy — basically said everything they’d done before the terror assault and everything the administration had said afterward was appropriate, “based on what was known at the time.” Lamb and Kennedy said they’d done the right thing as they sat next to two security experts

Comments:
It seems to me that Benghazi will be the final stake in Obama's reelection bid. How differently he might have been perceived by the country if immediate action had been taken during those hours of battle. The ambassador and others might not have been saved, but the ongoing dumb regard for Libya's feelings doomed any idea that Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton can move quickly and decisively in an emergency.

John Podhoretz knocks it out of the ball park. Excellent summation of the incompetent handling of a very sad chapter. Should be a Must Read. Maybe it will help some people sitting on the fence.
FTA: Obama and his people went for the YouTube play. In so doing, they not only deceived the American people and inappropriately deferred blame, they inflicted on themselves an entirely unnecessary wound.

FTA "It’s unclear why these career civil servants, who are not beholden to the president for their employment, felt it necessary to defend an Obama appointee’s shockingly misleading and now entirely discredited talking points"

No, it's very clear. The State Dept is to the left of even the Obammies.

IMHO, there is more to this video angle than has been dredged up so far. Something evil is going on, besides the "self-evident" 9/11 anniversary terror attacks.

The State Department was following the Obama book for the election. Obama wants to run as the bin Laden killer and the one that destroyed al-Qaeda with the deaths in Benghazi there goes his foreign policy chops. The coverup was pure politics.

Here we have the umpteenth "well, can you imagine that?" moment. Yes, I can imagine. It would be inexplicable if we had a patriot in the White House. We don't. We need to look at the cumulative effect of what Obama's policies (strangely they are policies) have wrought. I'm afraid that what we fear Obama is doing to the Middle East is true. It is also no accident.

Patrick Kennedy should be made to resign along with Lamb. She heard that going on for 6 hours and STILL she lied and took the Obama message to the nation along with Hillary and Rice and others..... I also was happy when Issa told the 2 whistle blowers..I hate that label... if they had any problem with their careers to come back..they will be protected...
They were brave to to step up..
I hope Bite-me tries to explain this away tonight...Ryan will nail him..
I too felt like crying thinking about the fear they must have felt in those 6 hours with the animals coming at them...

This same State Department and government sent the USS Cole into Aden Harbor in Yemen because it was striving for normal relations with terrorists. After the attack and deaths President Clinton thought this was a crime and sent in the FBI?

So, October 11th, and twelve years after the 17 Cole sailors were killed, the local in charge of security in our embassy there is murdered by the same Islamic hatred.

The hearing yesterday proved again that you can't have a successful foreign policy by lying, wishing and hoping.

Considering his favorite Uncle is a member of an Al Qaida affiliated organization, and that he appears to wear a ring that is inscribed with the Shahada, the Islamic call to faith, his behavior is understandable if he is an Islamic Agent.

After we get rid of this bum, we'll have to start the War on Terror all over again. Every gain Bush and our courageous volunteer Armed Forces made has been negated.

And yes I do read WND. Try it. The stories today are quite enlightening.

Interesting that everyone has stopped asking why the Ambassador was there with the two former Seals...and no protection. Wasn't it something to do with the weapons we gave the rebels/brotherhood? People were starting to question that until the State Dept. admitted they lied about the video. This Administration is getting very good with their "Ewww, something shiny!" distractions.

Where is the call for Hillary to resign? We have the head of the State Dept whose incompetence got 4 Americans killed, an Atty Gen who is in contempt of Congress, a Treasury Secretary who didn`t pay his taxes, Ambassador Susan Rice who lied about Benghazi on a national television show, a Labor Sec who fudged the unemployment number, a First Lady who meddles in our schools, restaurants and grocery stores, a WH Press Secretary who lies daily and a Vice President who is crazy, all lead by Barack Obama who accepts no blame for all the mayhem going on in his regime.

They need to keep asking who told them that the video was the reason for this. Who put that story out there and why. Lamb watched in real time and still went with the video story. These are the keepers of America's security. Sad times for America when the top security people lie and the media won't report it because it might harm the very person who is setting up the lies. It is just stunning to me that this is not the headline on every newspaper and TV newscast.

Libyan authority said it was a terrorist attack, other other foreign sources knew it was a terrorist attack even right after the event. So why did President Obama and his administration call it a riot cause by a video? Even after the event and the evidence showed it was a terrorist attack, they continue to call it a riot. Obama on TV and at the United Nation refered to the attack as a reaction to the video. I guess Obama was to busy campaigning to attend any national security meeting. Oh yes, bin Laden is dead and Al Qaeda is no more! WRONG! Americans lost their lives because campaigning is more important than national security

The worst offenders in this were the democrats, Cummings and Lynch, who were trying to foist the entire debacle on the republicans. Fat lot of help Biden's "so-called foreign policy experience" has done to prevent the preventable deaths of 4 Americans!! Like most everyone here, i watched the c-span spectacle and i vascillated between rage and tears.

Charlene Lamb said they watched the events in "real time." And yet, she would not nor would Kennedy admit the plain fact: this was terrorism.

When questioned point blank about the nature of the attack, they could not and would not say the words. It was shocking and horrifying to watch... in real time.

Now think back to Hillary's various performances: that languid, slow, painfully articulated rationalization.

Years ago, when Clinton was finishing up his second term, it became clear that the media had discovered that they could be much more active "players" in politics. I remember telling Hubby that we'd see more of this and more extensively and that this would be the real danger for our Republic.

We now have about half of the citizenry who DO NOT HAVE A CLUE. I have an intelligent cousin, but she is completely ignorant because she relies on the so-called MSM.

This is why Ryan and Romney absolutely must bring this up, attack the "video" meme, tell the truth, expose the quislings.

Will bloviator Biden bring up BO's foreign policy "successes"?

All is utterly outrageous. We are, as we here have said since 2008, we are in great peril.

The State department has been a thorn in America's side for a long time. The combination of the Obama gang and the State department is almost more than the republic can bear. It was embarrassing to watch these government officials do their best to lay down a protective smokescreen for the administration. One wonders who they think they are working for and what their priorities are.

I did not find the testimony "baffling". It appeared to me that the two bureaucrats were in cover-up mode, particularly Mr Kennedy, a piece of scum. How can a person who has no memory of anything be in a high ranking position. No, he was just lying, and under oath. At least Ms Lamb showed emotion, whether because she was under stress, or she knows the two of them are lying, or she really feels empsthy for the dead men and their families, or a combination. It apeared to me that Mr Issa was WAY too kind to them.
At least some of the Congresspeople let loose. We need Mrs Clinton to testify under oath, but you watch Obama insulate her.

I do not entirely agree with the author. If the President had admitted it was a terrorist attack, that would have undermined his whole
tact, having ridden the killing of OSB to state that the terrorist organizations were decimated and incapable of inflicting harm on the U.S. His own line of B.S. would have gone into the cesspool. Either way, his talking points were proven false.

55 you may want to read General Vallele's just released statement....

Obama would not give permission for four months to get Osama when they knew where he was...Thus Panetta, Gates, Clinton went ahead without telling him...or Brennan...And informed Obama on the Golf course.

In light of the story that me forth yesterday from Corsi, with pics of Obama's ring, and a Duke professor translation of the inscription...that reads "there is no god but Allah"....

Perhaps many should rethink Obama's national security claims....He s a fraud and a lar.

They’ve stunned their parents and the rest of America with pictures like this:(Snip for photos and tweets)Now, some Texas teens are taking it a step further. The students, who are part of their high school’s Turning Point USA chapter, are launching a #LunchMovement with one simple message: “No More, Mrs. Obama.” The Healthy, Hunger-free Kids Act has been in effect for a few years now. Yet, it seems to have done just the opposite of its stated intent. Kids aren’t getting enough to eat

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J – An Atlantic City casino is suing a big-time gambler, claiming he won $9.6 million in a card-cheating scheme in baccarat. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against Phillip Ivey Jr., considered one of the best poker players in the world. The lawsuit alleges Ivey and an associate exploited a defect in cards made by a Kansas City manufacturer that enabled them to sort and arrange good cards in baccarat. The technique gave him an unfair advantage on four occasions between April and October 2012, the casino asserted in its lawsuit. The

Microsoft finally killed off support for Windows XP this week, but the company decided to wax nostalgic about one of the most memorable parts of the operating system—that serene, hilly landscape that serves as the default XP desktop background. In a video released on the day the tech company officially ended support for the 13-year-old software, Microsoft interviewed the man who took the photograph, called “Bliss.” Charles O’Rear, a former National Geographic photographer, said he was driving through Napa Valley, just north of San Francisco, when he decided to stop and snap a photo of the idyllic countryside (on an

Brussels- Until recently, members of the Russian delegation to NATO were free to roam at will about the Western alliance´s headquarters here on the outskirts of the Belgian capital. The Russians had an awkward habit of listening intently to others´ conversations at the cafeteria, yet their presence was tolerated in the name of dialogue. Not anymore. In response to Vladimir Putin´s annexation of Crimea, NATO earlier this month suspended all practical cooperation with Moscow. Now most of the 70 or so Russian personnel enjoy about the same level of access to the alliance headquarters as journalists. It´s a small but significant sign

Cancellation of Tomahawk Puts

The Obama Administration will be adding insult with its cancellation of production of the Navy’s Tomahawk and Hellfire missile programs. These decisions followed by just weeks the decision to reclassify two hospital ships, 10 coastal patrol craft and a ferry boat as “capital warships.” The Tomahawk decision is particularly troubling, as the cruise missile has for years been the workhorse of presidents seeking to deliver limited, precise, stand-off military responses. During the 2011 Libyan crisis, the Navy flung 220 Tomahawks in support of operations. We launched more than 1,100 at Kosovo. About 100 of these missiles are used in an average

Wendy Davis and President Obama taken by the White House during their meeting on Thursday, a meeting closed to press and photographers. Communications Director Matt Hirsch issued the following statement about Sen. Davis’ troubling lack of transparency: “Despite stating unequivocally just last month that she would not avoid having her photo taken with President Obama, this week Sen. Davis did just that. My American Enterprise Institute colleague Nick Eberstadt provides a reminder that the federal government has been a pioneer in producing useful and reliable statistics. It began with the Constitution´s unprecedented and, in Eberstadt´s words, “truly revolutionary” requirement that a census of population be conducted at regular intervals and that the number of representatives each state would have in the House of Representatives would be based on it. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the quality and quantity of government statistics has been deteriorating. Eberstadt decries in particular the government’s “hastily devised ‘federal poverty measure’ unveiled in 1965,” which

Law enforcement sources confirmed the investigation. The FBI started looking into the company "more than several months ago," said a person who has been briefed on the investigation. "We are doing our job of getting to the bottom of this issue," said the official, who asked not to be identified because the investigation is ongoing. On top of rising premiums, Obamacare taxes are adding hundreds of dollars per year onto customers’ costs, according to new study from the American Action Forum. Those who braved the health-care law’s exchanges will have to pay an extra $354 on average in 2014, reports the free-market D.C.-based think tank, just due to seven taxes included in Obamacare. The vast majority of the country covered by employer-sponsored health insurance will be forced to pay a somewhat lower tab of $196 to cover the taxes. Those with self-funded employer-sponsored insurance are exempt from several of the largest culprits and will have the lowest

DURHAM, NC — A drug trafficker who worked for Al Sharpton’s nonprofit in the 1980s said that despite the preacher’s denials, he was eager to get a slice of the lucrative drug deal captured on FBI surveillance video. “It was greed. He just wanted money,” Robert Curington, 72, told The Post during a two-day interview at his North Carolina home, detailing for the first time how Sharpton stepped into the FBI’s trap — and was then forced to become a federal informant. Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the

Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling. That´s thanks to the letter House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp sent this week to the Justice Department recommending a criminal probe of Lois Lerner. The average citizen might be dizzied by the torrent of confusing terms—BOLO lists, Tigta, 501(c)(4)—and the array of accusations that have made up this IRS investigation. Mr. Camp´s letter takes a step back to remind us why this matters, even as it provides compelling new information that goes to motive and method—and clarifies some of

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle. Michael Parker and Flora Chang, at Sanford Bernstein, say we entering a new order of "global energy deflation" that must ineluctably erode the viability of oil, gas and the fossil fuel nexus over time.

STAMFORD, Conn. — Jeb Bush defended his controversial comments about immigration reform, insisting they were nothing new for him and urging “sensitivity to the immigrant experience.” At a Connecticut Republican party dinner Thursday night, the former Republican governor of Florida did not repeat his remarks from last weekend at his father’s presidential library, when he said that people who come to the United States illegally in search of a better life for their children “broke the law, but it’s not a felony. Under the administration of President Obama, as never before in my lifetime, there is reason to be a bit afraid of the federal government. Coming clearly through the throbbing of helicopters and the roar of the SUVS of the feds harassing the Cliven Bundy Ranch, patriots there for Bundy should “tell it to the judge”. There is mainstream media-suppressed case history in Nevada the feds are desperately trying to keep under wraps. Chief Judge Robert C.
