Mitt Romney sure did what he needed to do in last week’s debate. He ran rings around the president, who looked half the time like he was barely interested in being there. A number of—no, most of—Romney’s assertions about his plans were false or misleading. But Barack Obama failed utterly to rebut them. Those 90 minutes made it a new race. This week, the spotlight turns to Joe Biden and Paul Ryan, who square off Thursday. We know what Biden is capable of, for good and for ill. Author's name removed from headline by staff
Comments: As a propaganda master, Tomasky would have made any of the Axis leaders proud.
And like Gypsy's mom's "You gotta have a gimmick" Tomasky trumpets "You gotta have a sound bite".
You must have a barf bag at the ready, but sometimes it is interesting to have a look inside the heads of these misguided maggots.
Do not forget that Paul Ryan likes to go "bow hunting" in his native state. He kills his target with an arrow, slowly he stalks his prey, he may lay in wait, he may climb a tree stand and glass, or he may shoot the dear on the run...but he has been hunting for years, being a killer, one who brings home the prey.
Joe is a city person, crafty, sly and cunning, thinking himself too clever by half.
Paul will need to set up his shot and when he does, "down goes Biden...down goes Biden" will ring throughout the airwaves!
FTA: "A number of—no, most of—Romney’s assertions about his plans were false or misleading."
What a snarky, lying punk this Trotsky...oops, Tomasky is.
After Empty Chair spent months and millions of dollars spreading lies and propaganda about Mitt Romney (He doesn't care for the people. He wants to end medicare. He is owned by Big Business. He wants dirty air and water, etc.), they now call Romney a liar for not living up to the false caricature they made of him. Choom Boy could have confronted Romney in the debate at any time, and challenged the truthfulness of Mitt's statements. That he didn't shows that either: a) the statements Romney made were true; b) Obama is too much of a punk to be confrontational to someone in the same room, or c) Obama is too slow-witted or too permanently drug impaired to challenge Mitt. Or was it all of the above?
Michael Tomasky, of whom I’ve never heard (and proudly admit it), sure knows how to get stuff off his chest by smothering it with words and more words and even more words than that. Need a tome? Tomasky’s your man.
Joe Biden, he of “a mind like a steel sieve” fame, must be just itchin’ to go one-on-one with Paul Ryan, if I get Tomasky’s twisted drift.
Thursday evening, look for popcorn sales all across America to go through the roof.
Expectations are so low for Plugs he wins by just showing up and not having to go to the bathroom during the debate. It's IBM's Big Blue versus Honey Boo Boo. I'm hoping Clueless Joe will do an Admiral Stockdale: Who am I and what am I doing here?
FTA: ….to give him a pass on the fact that his numbers don’t really add up... Really? So tell us Michael how don't they add up? Or is that just liberals repeating bull from liberal think tanks that the media keep calling non-partisan? I triple-dog-dare joe plugs to question Ryan on his numbers.
Actually, Biden can be a successful debater. His main skill is having a quick recall of "HIS" facts. If you go back and look at the Biden/Palin debate, Joe's best moments were when he spouted off something that sounded great but had no basis in fact. However, the media never called him on any of it. Ryan will have to do it during the debate. Fortunately, I think Ryan will be ready.
Go ahead and admit it Alinsky...er Tomasky, Oblamo picked Biden because he was the dumbest Senator he could find that couldn't outshine the dumbest presidential candidate in our countries history. And when you have a lapdog media, it's a marraige made in Heaven.
#19, I think Obama picked Biden in part because of his "clean & articulate" comments. Waking up everyday and realizing that this young guy who has accomplished as much in Senate in 1.5 years as you have in 20+ years (still nothing) and now you have to call him boss!
I'm not a big fan of either Rand or Objectivism, but I have far less concern about Ryan finding inspiration there to enter politics than I have over Obama deliberately choosing Chicago, one of the most politically corrupt cities in the US, to enter politics despite not being a native and not having gone to college there. Why Chicago?
Anyone who believes that Loser Biden can take on Ryan and win is dumber than the Mulatto Kid. Biden is nothing but a party hack and it shows. No original ideas, lack of experience, despite years in Congress, and dumb as a rock.
Neither of these two is running for the presidency so who really cares what they have to say, especially Joe? I believe there is a football game or American Hoggers rerun Thursday so I will be otherwise engaged.
Comrade Tomasky seems to have conveniently forgotten that deer-in-headlights panic in Zippy's eyes as Ryan systematically ripped apart 0bmacare inside of a few minutes. Plugs is going to come out of there with an extra opening.
Can`t image the obnoxious, lie telling, Jo Biden, doing that well against a much younger Paul Ryan...and especially, not in Danville Kentucky! that along must be traumatizing him. Danville is not a large city, it is more rural country.
"The world should know Utah is open for business," said Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, after he signed a contract with the Federal government that would allow Utah to open its five national parks by Saturday. The deal requires Utah to pay to a total of $1.67 million for the 10 days, $166,572 a day, so eight sites – including five national parks, two national monuments and a national recreation area – can reopen as early as Saturday morning. The deal came after Herbert wrote a letter to President Obama on Tuesday, requesting that Utah´s national parks and monuments be allowed to open.
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson left team practice on Thursday to be with his critically-injured young son, according to reports. TMZ reported that Peterson´s two-year-old son was brutally beaten by his mother´s boyfriend in Sioux Falls, S.D., Wednesday evening. Emergency responders found the child unresponsive at the apartment where he lives and rushed him to a local hospital, where doctors found evidence of abuse. Peterson´s son suffered severe head injuries, local law enforcement officials told TMZ.
The Air Force’s two star general in charge of the wing responsible for its 450 nuclear missiles has been fired, a defense official confirmed to ABC News. Maj. Gen. Michael Carey is being removed from command of the 20th Air Force, the official said. That command is responsible for the three wings that maintain control of the 450 intercontinental ballistic missiles scattered in missile silos across the northern plains. Lt. Gen. James Kowalski, the commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, made the decision because of a “loss of trust and confidence,” according to the official. No other details about the firing

Michael Carey is being removed from command of the 20th Air Force, which is responsible for three wings of intercontinental ballistic missiles -- a total of 450 missiles at three bases across the country. The Air Force is citing "loss of trust and confidence" in Carey´s leadership, but the exact reason for the firing was not immediately clear. For months now, the GOP has been held hostage by a faction of its party that deluded itself into believing President Obama might be rolled on his signature health-care law. Witness now an equally grand delusion on the Democratic side, one that President Obama nurtures at his peril. According to Democrats, their steadfast refusal to negotiate on the government shutdown or the debt ceiling is rooted in a belief that now is the moment to "break" the GOP "fever." Democrats are furious that Republicans today use every Washington deadline to extract a spending concession—and insist they must be broken of that
MOSCOW--Russian investigators said on Wednesday they found drugs aboard a Greenpeace ship that was used in a protest against offshore Arctic drilling and would press new charges against some of the 30 people being held for alleged piracy. In addition to drugs, the Investigative Committee said searches of the Arctic Sunrise, which was boarded by Russian coast guards after the September 18 protest at the Prirazlomnaya oil rig, had revealed equipment with potential military uses. It also said investigators were trying to establish which of those being held were responsible for what it called attempts to ram coast guard boats,
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, BRUNEI -- Secretary of State John F. Kerry apologized Wednesday for President Obama´s absence at a gathering that has become a testing ground for U.S. outreach to Southeast Asian nations rattled by China’s growing assertiveness. Obama was supposed to lead a special U.S. session with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, many of whose members are nervous about China’s intentions but also reluctant to appear to side against a powerful neighbor and trading partner. “I bring you both President Obama’s sincerest greetings and his apologies for not being able to be here,”Kerry said at the beginning of
An NYPD undercover detective has now been arrested in connection with an attack on a family in an SUV by a group of motorcyclists, reports CBS News´ John Miller. The officer is expected to be charged with criminal mischief for allegedly banging on and breaking the rear window of the SUV. The detective waited four days before coming forward to the NYPD and he allegedly made false statements about his involvement, reports Miller. The AP identified the officer as Wojciech Braszczok, and said he turned himself in to face riot and criminal mischief charges. He was expected to make a court appearance
The revamped $100 bill costs 12.5 cents to produce — a 60% increase over the 7.8 cents it cost to print the older version of the bill. The government has printed 3.5 billion of the new $100 bills, which it began delivering to financial institutions Tuesday. How soon customers will see the new bills depends on their distance from a regional Fed office, demand, and a few other factors. Among the reasons it’s more expensive than the older currency: Its new security features, which help prevent counterfeiting. For one, there’s a blue 3-D ribbon running through the center of the
An NYPD officer who was on a deep undercover assignment when a violent fight erupted between a group of motorcyclists and a man driving a Range Rover in Manhattan is seen on new video punching the SUV, shattering its rear window, NBC 4 New York confirms.(Snip)The video that just recently surfaced shows the undercover smashing the window, but not participating in the assault. He rides off when the driver is pulled from the SUV, according to a person familiar with the investigation. The video has not been made public. Sources say the undercover was not truthful with investigators about his role.
Usually the Asia-Pacific leadership interactions are a muted affair, with a lot to do with photo shoots and endorsing the paperwork that their respective emissaries prepare. But this time around at the Indonesian resort of Bali, the United States president was badly missed. In an era where Russia has gained a major diplomatic victory over its archrival by brokering a thaw with Syria, the absence of Barack Obama owing to the financial mess at home underscored the power limitations of Washington in leading from the front. The APEC meet was, thus, a solo affair to be led by Chinese President Xi
A 10-year, billion pound neuroscience project which aims to revolutionise our understanding of the human brain has begun. Scientists from 135 institutions, mostly in Europe, are participating in the The Human Brain Project (HBP). Co-funded by the EU, it aims to develop the technology needed to create a computer simulation of the brain. It will also build a database of brain research from the tens of thousands of neuroscience papers published annually.(Snip)"We should begin to understand what makes the human brain unique, the basic mechanisms behind cognition and behaviour, how to objectively diagnose brain diseases, and to build new technologies
I was born at the beginning of the Second World War into a family of high school teachers who were members of the Communist Party, and therefore were actually part of a vast conspiracy dedicated to the destruction of this country, although they would never have looked at it that way, and so-called liberals would be the first to deny it. (Snip) It is also an unhappy but hugely important fact that the conspiracy to which my parents belonged has steadily migrated into the heart of the Democratic Party until it now occupies the Oval Office in the person of
The federal government has spent $634million on the Obamacare website--more than it cost to build Facebook or Twitter, it was revealed today. Despite the massive bill to taxpayers, the Healthcare.gov still doesn´t work properly ten days after it was launched - allowing only a handful of Americans to sign up for plans on the insurance exchange market. And experts warn that the site is likely to continue to experience significant glitches for months to come as engineers work out the bugs they failed to to spot before the site went live on October 1. The price tag for the broken
President Obama’s meeting with certain House Republicans, Carney said, would not be a negotiation: “he’s not going to pay ransom to the Tea Party so that the government opens or the government doesn’t default.” Carney blamed divisions among Republicans for the government shutdown, particularly blaming the Tea Party: “The President invited all members of Congress because he believes all of them shoulder the responsibilities…When it comes specifically to the House of Representatives and the House Republican conference, I think the president extended the invitation to all members because we have seen that it is a very diverse and fractious conference…a subsection
Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer continued his criticism of Sen. Ted Cruz on Thursday, asking “where is he now?” “How exactly was he going to achieve abolition of Obamacare? Explain that to me. Has he ever explained it? And where is he now?” Krauthammer said on “The Laura Ingraham Show.” Krauthammer, who has previously hit Cruz (R-Texas) on the strategy of shutdown to defund Obamacare, included Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) in his questioning and said the two went home to “have lunch.” “I mean his sidekick, Senator [Mike] Lee said, ‘Oh, we’re past Obamacare. We moved on.’ These are the generals
Throw the bums out. That’s the message 60 percent of Americans are sending to Washington in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, saying if they had the chance to vote to defeat and replace every single member of Congress, including their own representative, they would. Just 35 percent say they would not.(snip) The 60 percent figure is the highest-ever in that question recorded in the poll, registered in the wake of the government shutdown and threat of the U.S. defaulting on its debt for the first time in history.
I pointed out the other day that President Obama has unquestionably been hurt by the government shutdown, but Republicans have been hurt more. How bad is it for the GOP? The most recent Gallup poll shows the GOP is viewed favorably by 28 percent of Americans–down 10 points since September and the lowest number for either party since Gallup began asking the question in 1992. “The Republican Party is clearly taking a bigger political hit from Americans thus far in the unfolding saga,” according to the Gallup analysis. Then there’s a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, which (as Rod Dreher helpfully summarizes)
The National Park System has a budget of $2.6 billion, much of it raised by concession and attendance fees. Even if it were entirely taxpayer-funded it would represent only .00068 of every federal dollar in our $3.8 trillion budget. Nonetheless, hardball-playing White House strategists have made it the most conspicuous instrument of pain inflicted by the federal shutdown. The Republican House has tried to fund the park system during the struggle over Obamacare funding, but without success. Even park funding offers by states have been rejected by the feds. Almost every day brings fresh examples of unnecessary annoyances and hardships visited
One of the TV´s priciest daytime experiments soon could be coming to an end. Stations throughout the U.S. are contracted to carry Katie Couric´s syndicated talk show through summer 2014, but the decision on whether Katie will score a third season likely will be made this month -- and renewal seems a long shot. In fall 2012, Disney/ABC TV rolled out the red carpet for Couric, 56, giving her plum time slots on the best stations, fat license fees and loads of promotion. The initial annual budget was $50 million, according to a show source -- including $20 million for Couric
On Friday, after blaming conservatives like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for the Obama administration´s mishandling of military death benefits, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Cruz simply did not represent the GOP. Fox News host Martha MacCallum mentioned that Cruz would be visiting President Barack Obama along with other Republican senators like Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) at the White House on Friday. She asked McCain, "How do you feel about him representing you there?" In response, McCain smirked before saying, "First of of all, Martha, please, he´s not representing us there." Also in the interview,
The State Department announced Wednesday that it was cutting hundreds of millions in military and other aid to Egypt, and make no mistake: this was not a government shutdown move. This was the President of the United States blackmailing a sovereign state to force it to restore the Muslim Brotherhood government he favors. With the Egyptian economy in crisis and Egypt strongly dependent on this aid, Obama has just effectively cast his vote for the Muslim Brotherhood’s return to power – and his vote outweighs that of millions of Egyptians.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has destroyed an entire press run of a stamp series over safety concerns about the images on three out of the 15 stamps in the series. The stamps, which were aimed at getting children to be more active, featured kids cannonballing into a pool, skateboarding without kneepads, and performing a headstand without a helmet. Postalnews, a blog run by Brian Sheehan, a retired postal employee from Massachusetts, reports that USPS Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nagisa Manabe asked First Lady Michelle Obama to take part in a first day ceremony for the stamps. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- From county chairmen to national party luminaries, veteran Republicans across the country are accusing tea party lawmakers of staining the GOP with their refusal to bend in the budget impasse in Washington. The Republican establishment also is signaling a willingness to strike back at the tea party in next fall´s elections. "It´s time for someone to act like a grown-up in this process," former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu argues, faulting Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and tea party Republicans in the House as much as President Barack Obama for taking an uncompromising stance. Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour
