Mitt Romney is worth $250 million. Why so little?

| Mitt Romney is indisputably a very rich man. And if he is elected president on Nov. 6, he will become one of the wealthiest people ever to hold the office. But exactly how wealthy is Romney? The figure that gets tossed around is $250 million in net worth — meaning the total value of his assets, financial and others, minus any debts. It’s a big number, but frankly, it seems low. Given the industry in which he made his fortune (private equity), the era when he made it (the 1980s and 1990s) and the wealth of his peers
|
Comments: Ridiculous! Could the fact that he is not a billionaire be because he left the private equity business to serve as governor and to help save the winter olympics instead of remaining thru the boom market days? Funny how the WaPo had no problem with Teresa and JF'n Kerrys wealth, or Corzine's, or Feinstein's or Piglosi's or Bloomberg's...A Senator Romney would be way down on the list by wealth...

Massive charitable donations and years of taking no salary from the Olympics and The state of Massachusetts as well as donating his inheritance to charity? Maybe that's why he's not richer?

Hey, William Cohan - where was your curiosity when Barack Obama started running for president 5 years ago About how the leader of the choom gang got into Occidental, then supposedly excelled at Columbia and Harvard. Where'd the money come from? How'd he do? Where are his published papers? Who knew him? Who did he hang out with? What and who were his influences? And how did he knock his first two political ooponents out of the race before they ever really got started? How did he get sealed divorce court records opened? Why can't we get his own records open? WHY DIDN'T YOU or anyone else VET OBAMA??

The class warfare card, the race card, the abortion card, and the joker. That's the complete extent of the Democrat Deck.
And as the OP points out, no news story ever makes an issue of the fact that all the top democrats are multimillionaires and billionaires. It seems only Republican wealth interests them.

A few days ago Romney had too much money. Now, suspiciously, he doesn't have enough.
It never ends. Bush, father and son, endured the same manure journalism. Daddy was an oilman and took Arab money. Granddaddy secretly helped the NAZI. George W. and Cheney killed Arabs for oil and acted like the NAZI

Articles like this one don't really bother me much on substance. After all, we have been asking the media to vet President Obama for five years now. The fact that the author goes over Mitt's finances with a louse comb is actually fine with me. The problem arises though, in the conclusion.
He makes the case that Mitt probably has more money than indicated and perhaps a lot more money than we suspect. If he does, we can't have a billionaire running for prez, it just won't do. On the other hand, if he isn't a billionaire, well he darn well ought to be and what is wrong with him as a businessman? He must be a failure instead of the steady hand he purports to be. Of course I'm glad to report you've stopped beating you wife, Governor!!!!!

All you really need to know about the two men is how much each man gives of their time, resources, and money, to charity or in the service of other people. Voting for people who will take money from others to be used as charity, doesn't count.

This idiot is suggesting that Romney's worth more than he's reporting by asking stupid rhetorical questions. When you're worth $250 million,a few more millions here and there don't mean a thing. At least he hasn't blown through his fortune like that asinine basketball player who went through $110 million. When you're a Mormon ,you don't "make it rain" at strip clubs.

If you were to ask Romney today what he was worth, he probably could not honestly tell you what he is really worth. But what is the difference if he is worth $250 or $500 million, as by all legitimate accounts he earned it, paid the taxes that he was required to pay on his earnings, and then again and again on his capital gains, so he can do what he wants with his money as that is the American way.
When Romney was governor of Massachusetts he did not accept a salary, and when he is elected USA President he probably won't accept that salary either.

Williamson, W.Va.- The man suspected of killing a West Virginia sheriff as he ate lunch in his car was mentally disturbed and had no particular vendetta with law enforcement, his father told The Associated Press on Thursday. Melvin Maynard said his 37-year-old son, Tennis Melvin Maynard, was exposed to harmful chemicals and injured while working at an Alabama coal mine. He most likely did not target Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum, he said. "He would have probably shot anybody, the first one he come to, you know what I´m saying?" the elder Maynard said. "I know he was off."

Charleston, W.Va. -- The man suspected of fatally shooting Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum on Wednesday is expected to survive. Tennis Melvin Maynard, 37, of Delbarton, is sedated and on a ventilator but is expected to recover from gunshot wounds, according to State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous. Two men and two women have been arrested in the case in the southern city of Maastricht. One suspect was arrested Friday as he was about to start digging in a field near Maastricht. Police dug up 400-square

The Dow Jones and Standard & Poor’s 500 indexes reached record highs on Thursday, having completely erased the losses since the stock market’s last peak, in 2007. But instead of cheering, we should be very afraid. Over the last 13 years, the stock market has twice crashed and touched off a recession: American households lost $5 trillion in the 2000 dot-com bust and more than $7 trillion in the 2007 housing crash. Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
