Early Voting Encourages
Americans To Close Their Minds

Investor's Business Daily, by Phyllis Schlafly

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 10/4/2012 8:08:15 AM

The presidential debates that started Wednesday extend to Oct. 22. But who wins or scores in the debates will have no influence on tens of thousands of Americans who will have already cast their votes for president and are not permitted to change their minds. In 2008, 31% of voters cast their ballots prior to Election Day, and the count was more than half in some battleground states. The percentage is expected to top 40% this year since early voting is now allowed in 32 states and began in Iowa on Sept. 27.

Comments:
Schlafly argues that the results of this early voting in some states may deter other voters from bothering to go to the polls.

Temporary polling places are already up. Apparently Moochelle urged Denver college students to go outside and vote now.

None of the undecideds, if they are truly undecided, should be early voting.

Sorry to disagree, Phyllis. Normally you and I are on the same page, but these debates are for entertainment purposes only. If a voter can't look at a politicians career and decide who is the better person for the office, then they are wholly incompetent. Observe what Obama has DONE. See what Romney has DONE. The presidential debate is a worthless exercise. I knew who'd be the better candidate long ago and cast my vote for Romney yesterday.

I despise early voting. A lot can happen in the last 30 days that can affect your decision making. If one of the candidates were to get caught naked in bed with Barney Frank but you've already cast your vote for him, you'll never be able to get the vote back. Plus, EV is really just another opportunity for ACORN to carry out their "vote early and often" strategy. For 200 years we managed to make it to the polls on the first Tuesday in November, with absentee voting for those who knew beforehand that they would be out of town that day. It's time we went back to that. If you can't be bothered to get yourself to the polls on that one day a year, you shouldn't be voting in the first place.

I am totally opposed to early voting - Obama was recommending it - why? democrats have time to figure out how many fraud votes they are going to need. Keep them guessing, hold your vote until the last week.

Early voting is bad as it allows the political operatives to really dumb down and control a lot of the voting process, especially with low knowledge voters. You have to figure that's why the Democrats want it so badly.

I believe that Early Voting is unconstitutional "The Congress may determine the Time of chusing [sic] the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States." At the very least, it is in violation of the intent of that clause.

I like it. I can get in line for 3 minutes or less, poke the straight Republican button, avoid traffic, avoid possible bad weather on the official election day, and relax.

NOTHING will ever get me to vote for a democrat so what's the difference.

We don't need to eliminate early voting, we need to have a voter test and if you aren't smart enough to pass the test, you don't get to vote. Why, there wouldn't be any democrats elected hardly anywhere.

I'd wager that a lot more conservatives and Republicans vote early than democrats and liberals. Democrats and liberals are lazy.

The left has coopted the voting process over the past few years (early voting, motor voter, and illegals/felons voting, not to mention the black panthers and their big sticks). If we have a free and fair election this year (and that's a big IF), these foolish allowances must be repealed.

People we not only need the WH, we NEED the Senate and to KEEP the House.

THE missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 may have flown around Indonesian airspace on the night it disappeared, in what may have been a deliberate attempt to avoid radar detection. CNN reported a senior Malaysian government source saying that the missing jet made the detour after it had left the range of Malaysian military radar. The latest details emerged as new satellite calculations put the likely location of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in the same spot where Chinese patrol vessel Haixun 01 detected sounds coming from about 4,500m underwater on two consecutive days.

An eye-catching A.P. story, published Thursday, revealed that, in 2010, the United States Agency for International Development (U.S.A.I.D.) covertly deployed a social-media program in Cuba in the hope of bringing about a Cuban Spring. The network, called ZunZuneo, was offered to Cubans via the country’s mobile-phone network as a free text service, and attracted forty thousand subscribers before mysteriously ending operations in 2012. The contractors who ran the program are said to have concealed its U.S.-government origins via an offshore system of front companies and foreign servers, and to have collected data on subscribers’ “political tendencies” and “receptiveness,” among other
