Incumbent Debate Curse: Barack Obama Falls to Mitt Romney

| Correction: The latest version of this story incorrectly reported the year of the Bush-Kerry race. It was 2004. Call it the curse of incumbency. Like many of his predecessors, President Obama fell victim Wednesday night to high expectations, a short fuse, and a hungry challenger. If Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney didn’t win the first of three presidential debates outright, he more than covered the spread. He was personable, funny, and relentlessly on the attack against a heavily favored Obama. The president looked peeved and flat as he carried a conversation, for the first time in four

Right. Got it. Not Obama's fault, but ours, 'cause our expectations were "too high."
Look, I have zero experience with pot [none of my own, of course, but I mean, none with anybody around me], but was Barry showing some effects of past, recent, whatever use? I put nothing past this [pre-deleted], or his associates, either.

Obama failed to even meet my extremely low expectations. I expected the typical democrat tact of accuse, attack, lie, repeat. I've never witnessed a more rambling debater in my life. Half the time I was asking, "what is he talking about?"
I expected Romney to "win" on policy and economics but be flayed by the press for style. Romney exceeded my expectations.
Simply....... Obama was not prepared. He does not know the facts or how an economy works. It was obvious that he was regurgitating his campaign speech and campaign talking points. Obama is NOT a debater. Obama is not a good speaker and frankly, he's not that bright. Obama blew this all on his own.

Why is the National Journal using AP Washington Bureau Chief Ron Fournier for these articles? They reek. This was the real 0bama. The one with the hidden grades except for the C average at Columbia. He's not as smart as the Democrats have been pretending and it's painfully obvious.

The debate just goes to show the phony Øbama is worthless without his teleprompter. That is, when he needs to actually answer questions with clear facts, the phony liar just stands there and stammers. He has never so much as run a lemonade stand in his life and he expects to fool the American people into thinking he has better ideas on the economy than Mitt Romney? This great liar Øbama is being exposed for being the phony crook he tries to keep hidden from the public.

FTA: ". . . challengers have more time to prepare than do busy presidents. Romney was ready."
Oh, please. Obama was supposed to be debate prepping in Las Vegas, but he kept taking breaks to go check out Hoover Dam or to press the flesh. Michelle Obama was right: Stinky is lazy.

Gay marriage is an issue of equality that fulfills America’s founding principles, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said during Wednesday’s press briefing. Earnest was responding to a reporter who asked whether President Obama feels his stance on gay marriage has “cleared the way” for others to support it publicly, noting Sen. Portman’s decision to support gay marriage earlier this month after his son announced he was gay.

Ruth C. Amen, a longtime office manager of Gulf to Bay Realty, a Boca Grande business, is now facing embezzlement charges after a surprise birthday party for her boss backfired into a paper trail of fraudulent transactions, according to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff´s Office. The 46-year-old Boca Grande woman was reportedly solely responsible for handling the company´s finances such as billing and payroll. It was Amen´s decision to pay for a surprise birthday bash for one of her bosses -- without permission -- that brought the fraudulent transactions to light.

n a story produced jointly with NPR, ProPublica.org, that new tax-exempt investigative-journalism outfit, puts forward what sounds like a smart proposal for improving the efficiency of the federal government: Imagine filing your income taxes in five minutes--and for free. You´d open up a pre-filled return, see what the government thinks you owe, make any needed changes and be done. The miserable annual IRS shuffle, gone. (Snip)So why hasn´t it become a reality? For two reasons, as it turns out. There is a plausible public-spirited argument against it and a venal interest group working to thwart it.

To put it plainly, the press briefing intending to indicate how President Barack Obama thinks about Israel on the eve of his trip here was a combination of fantasy and insult. It is likely that the Obama administration made such statements for show — to persuade the Arabic-speaking world that the United States is striving for peace, is not acting like a puppet (or should one say “ally”?) of Israel, and is using its influence to change Israeli policy even as it does nothing of the sort. As proof that Obama isn’t going to do anything,

When Benedict XVI was pope, the New York Times ran a scurrilous, distortion-infested campaign intended to link the former Joseph Ratzinger with the awful abuse scandals that have so harmed the Catholic Church. These pieces were manifestly dishonest and substance-free when you read them through. But the Times editors know most people don’t read the articles — they read the headlines and the first paragraph. So this morning, the pseudo-journalists at the Times began their campaign of lies against the new pope, Francis, under the damning (and damnable) headline: “Starting a Papacy, Amid Echoes of a ‘Dirty War’”:

The key prosecution witness in the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman has allegedly been caught in a significant lie: Trayvon Martin’s girlfriend, the state’s most important witness in the George Zimmerman murder case, was caught in a lie, it was revealed Tuesday. It was not the first piece of misinformation tied to her, but it was the most damaging to date and left prosecutors in a very awkward position. They had to publicly acknowledge that their star witness had lied under oath

The remarks, in a televised speech hours before Mr. Karzai´s meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, capped a series of confrontations between the Afghan president and the U.S. over his demands to assert Afghan sovereignty and curtail American military operations. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
