This is a very insightful article. But a funny thing happened on the way to the coup -- the internet.

Starting with Drudge, who's huge fame and fortune owes to the fact that Newsweek spiked the story on BJ Clinton. Then LittleGreenFootballs became famous for exposing the fraud that was Dan Rather (LGF has since revered back to the dark side). Many other examples, but Breitbart comes to mind with the Weiner tweeting story (and I am still suspicious of Andrew's death).

Its going to take more time because the current in favor of the leftists is strong, but we've already seen the death of the news paper industry and the move to online for them. But I do get the sense that we are gaining ground in this area. Hopefully its not too late.

HOW do you hold them accountable? They have no regard for their falling revenues. I don't want my government taking control of the media. I'm in my 60's and the media, certain parts of it, openly admitted that they misreported the Vietnam war in order to fulfill their agenda. We have been manipulated all of my life by this corrupt media and they have paid no price. If the media is considered by the people of the USA to be the fifth arm of the government and the one that holds our government accountable, they are a miserable, shameful, failure.

Every dog has it's day. If God is merciful and Obama loses, perhaps the old Media can be put to sleep.

I'm always reminded of that scene in Evita where the people trash the offices of the newspaper "La Prensa." No true American would advocate violent overthrow of the government itself, which is forbidden by the Constitution anyway, but violent overthrow of the mainstream media isn't a bad idea. There is a book titled, "None Dare Call It Treason" that if anyone in here hasn't read it, needs to read it if they can find it. It shows how the media has been infiltrated by communists, and this book was written in the '60s, so it's been a long, slow process and now they are entrenched.

Watergate was a media coup d'etat. I spotted it at the time and agonized over what was happening. It was a lonely time for me. Of course, I was nobody. But it was a lonely time also for the few Reoubican politicians who dared to stick by Nixon when everyone elser was running for cover and the people of our country stood dumbly by not sure what happened but knowing that somehow whatever it was Nixon was to blame.

Unfortunately, even if Gov. Romney manages to defeat Obama in the election, the problem will still remain. Remember the Bush years? Everything Mr. Bush did was stupid; every problem was his fault.

For seven of W's eight years in office, the economy was growing, but it was never reported. Anything good or wise or pleasant that he did was played down or unmentioned. Anything at all that went wrong (Katrina?) was blamed on him.

If Gov. Romney were to win the coming elections, expect more of the same. It's not just that the media have become an arm of the Democrat Party, but the media seem to consider the Democrat Party to be their political action arm.

An awful lot of folks get their news from the internet and from radio broadcasts. Cannot watch the MSM when you are driving. I have not watched a newscast from a MSM outlet in 10 years, not a single one, period. It is like reading a book with many pages missing. Nor do i read anything written in a left-leaning newspaper. Media bias comes as no surprise to most of us, but what is troubling is the fact that our Republican leaders seem to have lost the will to fight. There are those who could call press conferences but we hear nothing from them regarding the Benghazi attacks. Where is the leadership in that regard? Frankly, I am fearful that there is so much corruption in both parties that we have passed the point of no return. Blaming the media is just scratching the surface. It goes deeper than that. There is no leadership in place to make an attempt to counter the propaganda. Breitbart had it right. He was fearless in confronting the lies and misrepresentations. Virtually every program has to have a person to argue both sides. Some opinion pieces seem partial to the Left. They are so busy being fair and balanced that they are starting to tilt. I want factual news and if it is partial to one side or the other, I want the person to state his/her position. Hannity is Conservative and he makes no bones about it, as an example. Beckel is sickenly left, even when he is blatantly wrong. Another example.

FNC has changes, I no longer defend it except in terms of giving the RATS too much face time, we never get the same so why bother? FNC is no longer a factor.

It's a stealth coup d' etat that's been 4 or 5 decades in the making. It's only obvious now because they believe they are finally in complete control, and so they are brazen about it.

The groundwork was laid in our schools and universities. Year after year, wave upon wave of fresh new liberals...infesting every institution of our society. Now they feel the power of their numbers, so they are openly conspiring to suppress any opposition. They are consolidating their power.

There’s absolutely nothing moderate about the moderators who have been selected to moderate the final four debates leading up to this election.

Hidden agendas, as they always do, will reign supreme. Liberal bias will stealthily insinuate itself throughout the upcoming presidential and vice-presidential word wars. I’ve been harping on this issue for what seems like forever.

Here’s my bare bones version: This is not about County Supervisor or State Assembly. It’s about POTUS and VPOTUS. With only a timekeeper to guarantee fairness, just turn the candidates loose to question or challenge or accuse each other and let the American people evaluate how well or how poorly they do under pressure; not staged, not rehearsed, “without a net.”

This is not showbiz. This is real life. Ultimately, yours and mine!

We need a true all conservative cable network. One that won't have on a Juan Williams every other minute. No fair and balanced stooges. We also should start recruiting young people to the conservative philosphy and ideology. It's time to think ahead a few years. If we can raise millions of dollars for a political candidate, we can also lay a foundation for the future.
I feel the conservatives are constantly being drowned out by all the liberal noise in the media. It's time we get a megaphone and not be afraid to use it.

Re FNC: just this morning, Hemmer and Martha referred to tommorrow's debate a "game" with "pre and post"game analysis hyping for viewers. The greater game that the media is playing is with Islam. It is a greater threat to this country than any economic factors--which, by the way, are huge. So, we are going to lose our religious freedom because they are hiding the truth and seriousness of the threat posed by the spread of Islam.

Watergate turned reporters into stars and with that came the vanity and arrogance associated with the famous. Dan Rather was proud he had helped to bring down a president, so much so that he tried it again with Bush but it exploded in his face instead.

The problem is the media became personalities and acted accordingly. The issues became less important and their egos and the money drove their actions. Rather perverted the expulsion of a flawed president with his own personal glory. Instead of seeing it as a sad task he was required to do, he took pleasure in it. Media personalities decided it was their job to make their mark in the world instead of simply reporting the news. Reporting wasn't good enough any more.

But I question the success of the coup. Most people do NOT trust the media. The more the media swings to their personal agenda, the more that people realize that they are not to be trusted. People know that alternatives exist and they are going to those alternatives as newspaper and TV users continue to decline. So if the media has taken over the palace, they may find that they have occupied an almost vacant building.

In addition to voting republican and praying that God's Will be done on November 6, I agree with what #28 and #37 said. I will continue to boycott MSM and will continue to get my daily news from Lucianne and Drudge. I refuse to be told how and what to think while watching the debates moderated, edited and reported on by MSM libs.

Fox News is the best out there, but it crossed the line when Santita Jackson became a commentator. Jesse Jackson's racism is blatantly obvious in every answer she gives. Did we really need more of that? She sits there with her immovable face except for the racist mouth that rapidly blathers over anyone else in the room.

More than likely it isn't exactly cowardice, it's more likely complicity and outright collusion. Perhaps the democrats told the pubs that the proverbial "ship has sailed. There's no stopping it. You can either hop on board or get crushed". I can just hear it now, "this is a big f'ing deal we got here. Keep your mouth shut and get in on the spoils or be destroyed and forgotten". Look at what the pubs did with the extension of the debt limit last year. They had the dims cornered, no where to turn. It was a great time to lower the boom, with a big, "NO!". Then pubs snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with their gang of twelve or whatever and gave Obama EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED, including the chance to axe up our military. Now our military is under assault, something that would have been unthinkable/untouchable under the Bushes, Reagan and maybe even Clinton.

If China goes to the UN and forecloses on us, Obama will say, "ok-that's what the UN declared, so their military will be arriving in American C-130's and C5's next week". Hat tip #10-you got it.

The only people paying attention to the 3-letter media are people older than 60. No one else pays attention, especially the 20-somethings who are fiercely independent due to the Internet. Re FOX: Why did they have to be "fair and balanced" in the first place. Why couldn't they have been the conservative alternative all along. The other MSM people call them that, so why not be what we need? Instead they want to be fair to Dems who go out of their way to hate on any conservative or Repub person on the air. They filibuster, smirk, and interrupt without any comment from the Fox person. I say screw them and become the true conservative voice on the air.

Let’s say it’s the 1980s and the national 911 network has been unveiled. A lobbyist for a phone company sees an opportunity to sell more phones—get them to poor people who don’t have one. Approach Congress, which passes a law to tax everybody a small amount on their phone bill to fund landlines for the poor.
I get the assignment. I report what Congress decided. My editor says: “You need a human interest angle." That is, start your story with somebody who will benefit from the new law. And of course, tell both sides.
In the typical newsroom, the second part is easy. I probably have “the usual suspects” who hate government regulations on speed dial. But where to find a poor person? Ah ha! My network. In the old days, I e-mail the entire newsroom, asking: does anybody have a granny who could benefit from a free phone?
Now it doesn’t matter that within an hour I get 100 people violently opposed to the law and only one granny. In my story, I just report both sides, one viewpoint from each! Assignment completed, and you’ll never know how sausage—er, news coverage, was made.

Here’s my question. I reported, why did YOU decide not to call your Congressman with outrage at this government intrusion? Why did YOU listen to other segments of your world, such as your church or fraternal organization or favorite movie, that urged you to show “compassion” for those in the “community” less fortunate?

Look, there’s plenty of blame to go around. I don’t think journalists caused the problem, but then I don’t work in TV news. That’s another story entirely.
