Ermir Spahiu was pulled over by police for his window-mounted GPS unit. For Tina Ross, it was her handicapped placard. And Mark Hubbard was nailed for an air freshener. All three Illinois drivers were stopped for what they thought were innocent items placed near their windshields. (Snip) An increasing number of drivers are being cited for windshield and window obstructions, which can include anything an officer deems to ''materially obstruct'' a driver's vision. The only

Comments:
A little tiny air freshener is a dangerous obstruction? Some officers just can't be trusted to make judgments and have to have it spelled out in detail for them. Several cited examples thrown out in court demonstrate this at a waste of court time and taxpayer dollars.

Revenue production.

Take it to court. It doesn't cost anymore but it ties up the arresting officer and makes it not cost effective.

State stickers and I-pass are more transparent than an air fresherner? Sorry officers, I don't buy it.

For every simple driving aid,
there is outrageous and preposterous fine to be paid.

Maybe these officers would prefer we put the GPS unit on our laps, so we have to look down.

I have a gps on the window and it did not block my vision at all. I think I would be taking them to court and making them prove it was blocking my vision. Are they going to start ticking people for rear view mirrors also.

State and city police are being forced to become just another revenue collection agency. How humiliating it must be for officers. The politicians are desperate for money to stay in business. They think we can't live without them.

Meanwhile murderers run free. It's a great life if you don't weaken. I'm weakening.

Like clock work, the second and third of every month has NY State Troopers at the toll booths to give out tickets should your registration or inspection be overdue.

What a waste.
