Newspapers rise and fact-check The Won
Charleston Daily Mail [WV], by Don Surber

It began with the Associated Press: “The White House seized on an initial report from a government oversight board weeks ago that claimed federal contracts awarded to businesses under the recovery plan already had helped pay for more than 30,000 jobs. (Snip) And it continued in California. The Sacramento Bee: “Up to one-fourth of the 110,000 jobs reported as saved by federal stimulus money in California probably never were in danger, a Bee review has

Comments:
Wouldn't it have been really great if these people had bothered to do some fact checking BEFORE the election?

Do the newspapers really think the jobs figures are the only thing he is lying about?

Why not start with his birth certificate and then check everything else, including ALL his campaign promises, ALL his "czars", ALL his facts? Hm?

Has it hit home yet that our POTUS is a liar. But he's no ordinary liar. He's an unusually good liar, which means a lot of people bought his plans to prosper the nation and give 92% of all Americans tax cuts. And that's just the biggest whopper.

When you drill down, everything he said, except for "redistributing the wealth" and "fundamentally remaking America" has been a lie. Both those comments were the truth but no one realized (except the Right) what he really meant.

It must be hard being an Obamaphile right now. Chris Matthews' tingly leg has probably gone dead and the poor guy can't admit it. Instead, he attacks Bush. Sighh...

Not one case of UNDER-reporting discovered. Now, let's see if our swift media can detect a pattern, and report it.

#1 - I hear you, but when you think about it, how good of a liar does he really have to be when he has had the entire MSM in the tank for him and the full support of the dems when they have a tri-fecta going for them? Yes he has the golden pipes and to many the charisma (and then there's the whole color thing), but once you get past that he is a zero. Without the fawning media, an eight year incumbant, a war and the PC trumpeting liberals, he would have gone nowhere. My point is that the moon and stars really lined up to get this clown in office. He is not that good of a liar. Maybe the Telepromper is, but he is not.

The intent of the spendulus bill was obvious from the start - spread money to Obama supporters, period. I am amazed how little the democrat party cares about workers. When I was a wee lad the democrat party was always claiming to represent hard-hat blue collar workers. Now? Layabouts, teachers, lawyers and, let's not forget, "activists".

Money to Universities went to Grants that are awarded to Obama bundlers & supporters.

A study of grant recipients, especially Ca., shows te same names appearing every "other" year.

This allows the "elite" to live a rich lifestyle without ever really working.

Even the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has caught on, finding jobs "saved" that exceed the number existant. It's a sham, everyone knows it's a sham, and as the numbers pile up to the contrary, and as newspapers understand they sell credibility, they have to eat some journalistic spinach - truckloads of it.

FTA: 'a report on the government’s stimulus Web site improbably claims that that single lawn mower sale helped save or create 50 jobs.'

Well...they mowed in SHIFTS...YEAH, that's the ticket...each worker mowed for... uh...lemme see...about an hour...YEAH...and they had 24 hr. days...so... with breaks 'n all...uh ...yeah... it was 50 jobs...that's the ticket...

As a frequent recipient of federal NIH grants, I resent the meme that ours is some comfortable lifestyle. Salaries are determined by academic rank-- grant money goes to Universities to support salaries and equipment. I never got a payoff from the feds. Doctors who do research make much less than docs in private practice, on average. Much of the US's first- rate medical research comes from federally supported work at Universities. Drug companies often benefit from the spade-work done in University labs--as the private sector only rarely goes out on a limb in basic research, where the payoff may be many years down the road. When people say that US has the best health care in the world, they are right, but they conflate the US research arm--much of which is public-- with its service delivery system, which is fragmented and mediocre at best. Whether stimulus money should have gone to NIH and NSF is another matter altogether. Despite the fact that I have a dog in the hunt, I think not.

The review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs were credited to stimulus spending when, in fact, none was produced.”

A small town in South Carolina received $1,000.00 dollars in stimulus money. They purchased a rider mower to help maintain city property. They reported to the White House that their purchase of ONE freakin' lawn mower "saved and/or created" FIFTY (that's 50, or five-zero for our Rio Linda friends) jobs. Those are the kinds of numbers His Saviorness is calling facts. It's called Marxist propaganda.

Newspapers are NOT rising in order to fact check anything about this Cloward-Piven Marxist president. They are sounding a call to their Holy Saviorness for his help in keeping their noses Siamese Twinned to his Holy Bum because the Holy Blessed Aroma is so very intoxicating and "historic." Truth is NOT and never will be their aim.

When the Chickens Come Home to Brood

BIDEN: Where's the big O?
EMANUEL: Chain-smoking and sulking in the Rose Garden. The criticism and mockery--well, he says the media’s ''disrespecting'' him.
AXELROD: He’s remote, just staring into space. Barely talks to us.
BIDEN: Lemme try tough love. I'll say, ''Listen up, Boss. You're the President. You can't be shuttin' down 'cause your feelin's are hurt. So haul your bony rear end back to the Oval Office and start actively deferring decisions again.''
GIBBS: I dunno. I think he just needs a big win. Problem is, health care, cap and trade, Stimulus II . . . all losers.
BIDEN: Wait. I know. [Dials numbers] Michael, my man. How ya doin? Hey Tiger, other than that little hitch in your takeaway, you got the sweetest swing. Guys, O needs a confidence boost. MJ, lose to him in your one-on-one tomorrow. Tiger, you and Barack against Boehner and Chambliss at Congressional on Monday. Whup their behinds.
MICHELLE: [From outside] The dinnerware people are here. Come along, you’re choosing the pattern right now. You hear me, Barack?

"Money to Universities" went to Grants that are awarded to Obama bundlers & supporters."

Let's be clear about this: the Democratic Party is an operation dedicated to diverting tax revenue to organizations and individuals who will in turn advance the cause of getting more Democrats elected, while providing the opportunity to skim off the cream for luxurious lifestyles for individuals and generous endowments and prestige for participating organizations. Much of this activity is outright illegal, but perhaps the majority of it is "merely" an immoral misdirection of national priorities from the well-being of ordinary citizens to that of the Democrat elite.

This is a vast criminal enterprise and has absolutely no priority other than the growth of its power. It is no more "American" than the Mafia was American.

Some brave person who understands what journalism is supposed to be about is going to risk their life by researching and exposing this open secret, one that remains unknown to most Americans because of the media is an active participant in it. When they write their book and it is published via the new media (no traditional publisher will touch it) it will set off a firestorm. Multiply the outrage created by the ACORN

Poster #11, you have it exactly right. Fod forbid, if they ever get 'reparations' that money will not be given to Americans whose ancestors were slaves, but to 'community organizers' or community groups who are fronts for the 'rat party. The money would go directly into 'rat party bank accounts.

Note where the "stimulus" takes place...
Childcare...nationalizing Daycare?
Education...further Nationalization of state and local Education?
Roads...Local projects become National projects? it used to just be the Interstates.
Summer jobs... major expansion of Americorp?
Law enforcement/Fire...Nationalize another sector?
Why would the Feds be funding 550 Community organizer administrators in South Georgia?

States rights? How about States responsibilities?

Could it be that the newspaper people have finally begun to realize that they're going to get just as scorched as everybody else by the Obama & Thugs conspiracies? Has Old Media actually discovered that the White House Gang is NOT only going after rich white Repuhblicans?
Naw .... they still have their heads buried in sand.

FTA: Stimulus my eye. This was a partisan heist of a half trillion dollars as the Chicago gang raided the Treasury. They bet the economy would rebound on its own and they could take credit. But thievery on a banana republic scale spooked the market and undermined confidence in the American economy.

Spooked, indeed, note that Europe and the East are recovering nicely, only the obami have succeeded in turning a recession into a depression.

It is hard to know which is worse, believing in Keynsian economics or Marx - believing in both is the height of absurdity.

I often read the comments after the article. What I have noticed as of late is the sharp decline in the "Bush caused the economic crisis and ran up the deficit" posts.

Even the koolaid drinkers seem to quieting down. As are the people making the claim that it took Bush 8 years to screw up the country.

Dems have been in control of Congress for three years and the current resident has been in the White House for almost a year. They have nothing to show for it, except spending.

#17, I voted for McCain but it is only fair to note that Obama took over as the economy was going off a cliff. That's why I don't think he's a socialist for taking over two car companies. I don't like it, but imagine if he had done nothing and things were as they are now, he'd be pilloried for that.

As a Chicagoan, I think its fair to say that as the economy improves, we'll come to see Obama as a crony capitalist, not unlike Bill Clinton.

I'll never vote for the guy and I don't approve of his policies, but anyone who held the office right now would look bad because of the economy.

They, like everyone else, are getting religion cause they have yet been bought out. They'll returning to being lapdogs as soon as the WH and Congress to give them a bailout.

Unfortunately, the only ones not getting bailed out are the People.

No Ithink that another President could have followed "American" principles of the economy and not Commie 5-year plans.
Did you know that we the people have dumped 80 billion dollars into the Auto companies and that we won't get it back?
The American plan would have been to let a Bankruptcy Judge cut all the expenses by about 30 %. There would be no $80 billion loss and the companies woruld emerge real lean and ready to go. The UAW would be so pleased that all there members have a job and some of the money could be restored by sale of Union bosses golf course resorts et al.

We need to stop referring to the Far Left Fringe Media (FLFM)as the MSM. Mainstream they are not. Calling them mainstream gives them credibility they have not earned nor deserve.

Reply 23 - Posted by: cleanhousein2010, 11/7/2009 2:19:32 PM     (No. 6008957)

#17 - taking over the car companies has done NOTHING to contribute to saving the economy - it's put an additional burden of debt on taxpayers - all to save a bunch of Union contracts that would have been nullified if this had gone through bankruptcy court. People without jobs won't buy cars.

Certainly some of the investment that was put into the banking system helped to stabilize it - although, as we've seen, much of that taxpayer investment has gone to everyone other than the taxpayers.. but these policies are inhibiting job growth - not helping.

#21 & #23 - You are preaching to the choir - I was against TARP also. My point is anyone who won in 2008 would be up against it. I think Obama always makes the wrong decisions - but his flailing makes him seem worse than he probably would be in more normal economic times - at least that's my opinion.

#10 - You are, officially, Da Man.

#18 - Not only was the ''meltdown'' of our economy mostly caused by the Left, the 'mysterious person' (rhymes with porous?) who withdrew about $600 Billion out of US banks in September timed it to coincide with the upcoming Presidential Election. Hanging that ''Economic Meltdown'' canard on Bush or the Republicans is old and ineffectual on people who know the truth of the situation.

But thanks for playing - try again.
