Obama and crew totally misread the 2008 election. They thought there'd been a fundamental shift in the electorate toward the Democrats and away from conservatives/Republicans. What had happened was the electorate threw a hissy fit about Iraq not being a "short, victorious, war" with a parade down Main Street a few - VERY few! - months after toppling Hussein's statue in Baghdad. Instead it got messy and long and people didn't see any dividends.
By the same token the people aren't willing to put up with multi-year, multi-trillion dollar deficits to fix a problem most Americans don't have. 89% of people are happy with their health insurance - did Obama think there were enough votes in that 11% to offset all the rest that he PO'd?

It seems that Hussein has stepped on his own, er, wand, one too many times. Where he hasn't been wrong, he is making himself look foolish by inaction. He is considered a failure now by both parties and the rest of the world has his number as a dithering fool. Impeachment time.

Wait until Thursday on the Capital steps. My friends here in Michigan who are flat broke hired a bus and they are going to lobby after the Rally. Housewives who are fed up. Moms who are fed up. WE have had it and we will not let it happen. Blue Dogs. Pink Dogs. Purple Puppies. We don't give a darn what color you are. Listen up you Republican Weenies-Yeah- Newt/John/Michael/Lindsay/McPain...We have had it with you too. We are the change this country will experience. You can spin it all you want. You can put us down. We do not care. You're opinion and your "money" do not matter any more. We have our own money and our own blood and guts. We know as much as you do, and we do support Walmart, because we already went there and bought a spine. Go look for a coupon, because Soetoro and anyone who supports even an inch of that ____ will be packin' yo bags.

Sorry for the rain, but this whole thing looks pretty bad to me. Obama is still very popular in VA and NJ, Democrats won in NY-23, and Democrats won in CA-10. And Glenn Harlan Reynolds notwithstanding, all the magic has not faded. When Obama is on the ballot, hordes of African Americans, guilt-ridden white liberals, and mindless college students will show up to keep him in office.

The Obama administration's dependence on the MSM to make him look better has brainwashed it into thinking that Tea Party activists, Fox News and radio talk shows all belonged to the periphery and was only so much noise. If it is to learn anything from this election (past performance would indicate that it won't), it would do well to actually listen to these groups to learn what the real America is saying.

What I haven't yet heard is any correlation between last night's results and that fact that this was the first 'post ACORN' election. They and the SIEU are on the run since the corruption news.
How many elections in the past would have been different under these circumstances?

Lately have been comparing BO popularity to that of "Furby"... the fuzzy little chatting best-friend toy from several years ago...
EVERYBODY wanted one.... and were willing to stand in any line at 3 a.m. or pay any price to get one.....
Then, after finally getting what they wanted, they found out the "non-sensical chattering" was driving them crazy, and they put the coveted trophy at the bottom of a dark closet so they didn't have to listen to its constant garble.
That's what happens when smart people get caught up in a short-lived craze!

I think #16 is dead wrong. It was all over the media that the elections were possibly a referendum on the IWon now turned ILost. He campaigned in black enclaves in NJ and VA but it didn't help. They didn't get it done and the peeps didn't come out for him. I personally believe, in VA and NC, ACORN had a lot do do with obama winning but ACORN was unable to deliver in VA this time. The enthusiasm for obama is wearing off and he can't hold what he has left for 3 more years. I agree with poster 21 that we will get it done and we are not backing down and conceding victory to a proven loser--that's for sure.

What I'm afraid of is that in 2010, after the American people get the adolescent riffraff Democratic congress out of office, the "adult" Republicans will be the majority in Congress, and they will turn the economy around for the better...and guess who will get the credit? Obama will get the credit because he will be the sitting president (just as happened with Clinton) and be reelected. God help us! That's why the Republicans should always remind the people who turned the economy around when Nancy Pelosi's Democratic ilk tried to ram Obamacare down our throats.

FTA: "Creigh Deeds, though he looked good to Democratic Party recruiters not long ago, turned out to be an undistinguished campaigner, more driven by the concerns of Washington Post editorialists than of Virginia voters."
Hold on, Glenn. McDonnell beat Deeds by about 352 votes 4 years ago for Attorney General of Virginia. What happened? Did Deeds forget how to campaign? Or did McDonnell become a campaigning genius somehow?

Having read the article and the preceding posts, my gut tells me the Obama / Pelosi / Reid troika thinks they can still "ram" through the Health Care and Cap & Trade monstrosities with minimum damage in 2010. I base this judgment on their arrogance in response to the August town halls and the September 12 demonstration. That is why it is important to keep up the pressure despite last night's results (i.e., tomorrow's HC demonstration in the capital) and continuously remind them there will be a price for pursuing their agenda.
The issues we should pound on are:
1- Job Creation 2- Get our fiscal house in order 3- Government competence 4- America has nothing to apologize for.
P.S., what scares the hell out of me is the fact that the above referenced troika will still be in power in 2010 when the Iran / Israel nuclear matter will probably come to a head (based on the opinion of people I respect) and they won't have a clue what to do about it.

I lost a bet with my husband that once the ACORN neighborhoods started reporting results that the election would be thrown into a "recount" like in Washington state where they just kept recounting until the Dimorat won. What a great bet to lose! They may have been afraid to lift their rat-faces this time!

#30 -- that's my question, too. I think a lot of us in VA weren't too happy that Deeds won the primary; he should have been a tough candidate to beat.
I'm already tired of hearing how McDonnell didn't identify himself as a Rep in his ads. So? And how many candidates do identify their party? He ran a good, solid, disciplined campaign. Let's enjoy at least one day.

Love your thought #27. However I'd be a bit more inclined to use the Cabbage Patch Doll. People also queued for ever, ran over others once inside the stores. It wasn't just kids (blacks) that wanted one, it was grown-ups (liberal elites), teenagers (young people who had never worked a day in their lives). Heck, my sister flew from Canada to England to get one for her 10 year old son. She's weird, really weird. And what does The Cabbage One do? Nothing constructive. Just sits there being popular and votes present. But I still like the Furby thought!

Then there is this Frank Sinatra song from Johnny Apollo…
This is the beginning of the end I can see it in your eyes, in everything you do And you’re afraid to tell me that we’re through But I can tell by looking at you.
This is the beginning of the end You just give yourself away with everything you say And though you never told me we must part Still I can read the writing in your heart
Why is it now when I hold your hand There is some little something that I miss What has become of the warmth in your smile And where is that little mischief in your goodnight kiss?
This is the beginning of the end I can see the thrill is gone, why let it linger on Why lie to me and say it isn’t so For when I hold you in my arms I know That this, this is the beginning of the end.
