Meg Whitman's campaign
spending is causing a stir

Sacramento - The radio ads have aired daily across the state since she declared her bid for governor in September. ''I'm Meg Whitman,'' one begins, ''and I want to talk to you about California. . . .'' The costly airtime -- with the primary election still seven months away -- is just one way the former eBay chief is spending the $19 million of her personal fortune that she has plowed into the race.

Comments:
First she needs name recognition equal to Jerry ''Moonbeam'' Brown's. Then she needs to remind people of the foolish airhead he is. With the average attention span and memory in California that will take big bucks.

I've heard her on a couple of talk shows and, so far, I like her.

I especially liked her take on how Arnie fell apart: he wants to be liked. I imagine a CEO has learned to make the tough choices without caring too much about whether people like her.

She is a fan of Van Jones of Communist fame, a real loser. The public sector unions will eat her alive. But this is California. We're toast no matter what happens.

Meg is anti-gun, moderate on the rest of the issues. Not fond of illegals, though. Not at all. --- California voters just want to know who's the most sick and twisted. That's why Newsom has a real chance.

I like her, too. She's farther left than most Republicans in the U.S., but not as far left as that DeDe chick from NY. She also has business experience, and CA needs to attract businesses.

However, the Dems. don't agree; they just want to expand the public sector, and maybe keep a few gift boutiques in the state for wealthy tourists and gov. employees to shop at. What's more, Meg will keep running up against the leftists in Sacramento (Karen Bass & Co.). She'll be demonized every time she wants to govern if she ever makes it that far. Unlike Arnie, however, she may not waffle under pressure.

I still think we're in for Gov. Moonbeam Part Deux in '10.

Her commercials are good. I heard one tonight for the first time and she hit the notes I wanted to hear.

The way things are out here, you need a lot of name recognition. She's being smart putting herself out there early on. The news media is promoting Jerry Brown all over the place, so she's going to have to pay to keep up.

The most important responsibility a Rep. governor has in California is to veto any spending bills or attempts to raise taxes or harm Prop 13. I can't see there being any chance that republicans will ever hold any more seats than they do now in either chamber in this state.

I just signed up on her site a few days back. Her business experience trumps all for me. Her area of expertise is a huge plus. She has name recognition and friends in the most blue areas. It'll be harder to demonize her or present her as some kind of knuckle dragging ape with that background.

She explained her positive comment about Van Jones as being laudatory of the dynamism of his speech. She said she knew nothing of him or his beliefs prior to that.
