This 'advise', courtesy of Robert Shrum, former chief strategist for algore 2000. Oddly, he quotes Moot Gingrich!

Shove it, Shrum. You have no idea what you are talking about, and you prove that by acting like Newt is some kind of super-conservative. He is not and those of us who would never ever dream of "dumping" the Gipper see right through you and your anger.

What we see is the party system splintering. It doesn't matter whether democrat or republican. More people are independent and quite frankly distrustful of both party systems. I, for one, amoung a growing many will look at the candidates independently. This is good for the political system as I think this is the only way to get rid of party/special interest control. I asked once awhile ago, and I will ask again. What is the purpose of the party system? Why do we need one? Can anyone answer this?

Shrum's article is not for us to agree with or to disagree with. It isn't aimed at us. We are the 30-40% who are conservative and vote that way. Against us are the 30-40% who vote leftist and the remainder, the independents. His aricle is aimed at them. By marginalizing the candidate they are more aligned with as the "Hard rock", Shrum is trying to bring them back to the left. The middle is the group who responds to best pitch and Shrum's pitch is that they don't want to be too radical right. Fortunately, the middle have woken up a bit since in one year they elected a "black" man and then were called racist for their efforts.

Reading this article got me frustrated. It felt like Shrum was telling me how much giving birth to our first child did or didn't hurt; he wasn't there so he has no clue. Similarly, he isn't with us at the tea parties so has no clue what we conservatives are doing.
Go away shrum; or at least write about something for which you have actual knowledge.

She was a hard-core lie-beral!!!!!! Period. A true moderate could have won pretty easily in New York, and wouldn't have had an independent conservative oponent.

You notice how these pundits never talk about how the left must embrace centrist or even conservative principles in order to bring more people into the dem party? They are allowed to keep slipping further and further to the left as if that were the natural center of the body politic. Only by drawing a hard line in the sand and saying "We will go no further", will we stand a chance of have real moderation in government. The "moderates" will finally be forced to choose between two opposing sides, and about time.

Do us all a really big favor Robert. Don't even try to tell us what Mr. Reagan was about.
His legacy is what is re-emerging in the face of this federal crime spree. He was on the side of the people. He proved it. He lived it.
We conservatives knew what we stood for then and need that again. It doesn't start with placating liberals and the marxist media goon squads or taking lessons from the ignorant.

The truth is that the Republican party has wandered off the Gipper's reservation. They will wander the desert, lost and bleeding followers and funds.
In the meantime, fear not, the Conservative party will take up the slack and do the heavy lifting! Sarah Palin has taken up the Gipper's sword and will swing it at the enemies of freedom.

Absolutely correct #17 and NY 23 proves your point. There are two distinctly opposing views being presented and the people get to decide which one they prefer. If the GOP candidate is a dem lookalike what's the sense of having a two party system? Kudos to those who stood on principle!

It is strange and more than a little alarming that an experienced political professional like Mr. Shrum can be as out of touch with fellow Americans as he seems to be. He has spent his life in the political arena but seems like a visitor from a foreign plant in his utter lack of comprehension of current political trends. He is of course not alone. More political professionals and career politicians than ever seem to be marching to their own beat and not that of the voters. The entire Establishment needs serious recalibration to reflect the beliefs and values of the mainstream.

Here was have advice from Democrat Bob Shrum, political adviser to Gore, McGovern, Muskie and Gephardt ... all BIG losers. He also advised anti-patriotic ex-prez Jimmah Cahtah, who is still angry about being defeated by Reagan. He advised Bob Kerrey too. Remember him? He was the panalist on the 911 Commission whose antics could only be conceived as an audition for a post with the Clinton administration.

Shrum is an idiot who has no clue what Conservativism is all about.
FTA: "That truth is lost on the Palinized Republicans who whacked their own moderate nominee in New York’s 23rd Congressional District in favor of a hard-shell, third-party conservative."
No, Conservatives whacked a LIBERAL RINO nominee in favor of one who follows Conservative values.
Shrum, being a liberal, thinks this was a wrong way to go, of course. Newt on the other hand has lost his way...and should just make his way home...and stay there.
