Last month, two friends and I backpacked for a week in the Sierra Nevada. We hiked through meadows dotted with wildflowers, slept beneath snow-draped peaks and met plenty of other hikers: the dad and son whose Green Bay Packers caps sparked a conversation about our mutual ties to Wisconsin; scientists from UC Santa Cruz studying flowers and rock formations; five recent college grads from Kentucky who were hiking the John Muir Trail before they scattered to begin their adult lives. But as the days passed, I grew increasingly troubled by the people we didn’t meet. There were a few Asian

Two days after sparking a national conversation in the wake of his decision to sit during the pre-game performance of the national anthem, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick isn´t changing his tune. (Snip) Kaepernick told NFL Network on Friday night that he chose not to stand because: "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people

Furious San Francisco 49ers fans are burning Colin Kaepernick jerseys after he refused to stand for the national anthem as part of a racial protest. One fan even played The Star-Spangled Banner as he set light to the Number 7 shirt, watching with his hand on his chest as it was reduced to ash. Another, who uploaded a video to Instagram under the handle Nate3914, called the $19million-per-year athlete an ´ignorant son of a b****.´ He added: ´People die every single day defending that flag you refuse to stand for and I won’t stand for that.´ ´This jersey was the

A former top adviser to President Barack Obama on Sunday labeled Donald Trump a "psychopath", saying the Republican presidential nominee met the clinical definition of the personality disorder. (Snip) "Basically, you have a psychopath running for president. I mean, he meets the clinical definition," Plouffe said in an interview on NBC´s "Meet the Press". When challenged, Plouffe acknowledged he had no degree in psychology but rattled off what he said were the New York businessman´s symptoms: "grandiose notion of self-worth; pathological lying; lack of empathy and remorse." The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Last week, Clinton

This is baby-sitting — Anthony Weiner-style. While his wife, Huma Abedin, travels the country campaigning for Hillary Clinton, the disgraced ex-congressman has been sexting with a busty brunette out West — and even sent her a lurid crotch shot with his toddler son in the picture, The Post has learned. The stay-at-home cad shot the revealing photo while discussing massage parlors “near my old apartment” shortly after 3 a.m. on July 31, 2015, a screen shot of the exchange shows.

PHOENIX — After 30 years in the Senate, during which he transformed himself from war hero into political icon, John McCain now finds himself in more jeopardy than at any time during his political career. And for much of that, he can blame Donald Trump. This reelection campaign, his fifth, is forcing the Arizona Republican to do battle on multiple fronts, testing his political dexterity in ways unlike any of his previous races, including two unsuccessful bids for the presidency. First he must clear his primary Tuesday, a day after he turns 80, against an arch-conservative whose campaign received a late six-figure

Donald Trump is planning to speak at a predominantly black church in Detroit next weekend, his campaign announced Monday. Pastor Mark Burns, a Trump supporter, said in a Trump press release that he would be “speaking at the only African American owned and operated national Christian television network, The Impact Network,” on Saturday morning in Detroit. He’ll be interviewed by Wayne Jackson at Great Faith Ministries. Burns said in the release that Trump would be answering questions relevant to African Americans, like “unemployment, making our streets safe and creating better opportunities for all,” and then he’ll deliver a speech on

President Obama’s spokesman said Monday that 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the national anthem during a game was “objectionable,” but he had the right to express himself. “I certainly don’t share the views that Mr. Kaepernick expressed after the game,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest. “But we surely all acknowledge and even defend his right to express those views.” Mr. Earnest said he’s confident that President Obama was aware of the athlete’s behavior, but he hadn’t spoken with him about it. He said the quarterback is “entitled” to his behavior “even as objectionable as we
