Clinton to use a custom lectern to

Hillary Clinton will use a customized lectern at Monday’s debate to mitigate the glaring height difference with Donald Trump. New photos from inside the Hoftstra University debate hall show two lecterns — a short one and tall one raised internally with plywood. “Clinton is 5’4” and Trump 6’2” and her team wanted the podium modified or a box added for her to stand on so she won’t look short next to Donald Trump,” WABC radio host Rita Cosby emailed with snaps of the doctored podiums after getting a sneak peak inside the Hofstra University debate site. It was not stated which podium would

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- Constant interruption. A condescending tone. Eye-rolling. For many women, the presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was a case study in deja vu. For more than 90 minutes on a national stage, they said Tuesday, Trump subjected the first female presidential candidate from a major party to indignities they experience from men daily, in the workplace and beyond. Tweeted Chicago-based writer Britt Julious: "Thoughts & prayers to every woman watching the #debates & getting painful flashbacks to dudes talking over them at work, school, home, etc." "The sad thing," said Christina Emery, an author from

A month ago, just after Colin Kaepernick´s protest against racial injustice hit the mainstream, the 49ers quarterback was told by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to leave the country. Clearly, Trump did not approve of Kaepernick´s decision to kneel during the national anthem. On Tuesday, a day after the first presidential debate between Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Kaepernick responded to those remarks. He called Trump´s comment "ignorant" and criticized Trump´s campaign slogan, "Make America great again." According to Kaepernick, that slogan should read, "Let´s make America great for the first time." "That´s a very ignorant statement that if you

CNN awarded Hillary Clinton an overwhelming victory in the first presidential debate - but most snap polls show Trump emerged victorious. Trump and Clinton tangled over the economy, her use of a private mail server and his unwillingness to release his income tax returns on Monday night. They engaged in a vigorous back-and-forth on the debate stage at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, as polls showed them locked in a tight race. However, after the debate´s end, polls conducted by a number of media websites showed their readers felt the real estate mogul came out on top. Trump acknowledged

Why Donald Trump Should

When Donald Trump began his improbable run for president 15 months ago, he offered his wealth and television celebrity as credentials, then slyly added a twist of fearmongering about Mexican “rapists” flooding across the Southern border. From that moment of combustion, it became clear that Mr. Trump’s views were matters of dangerous impulse and cynical pandering rather than thoughtful politics. Yet he has attracted throngs of Americans who ascribe higher purpose to him than he has demonstrated in a freewheeling campaign marked by bursts of false and outrageous allegations, personal insults, xenophobic nationalism, unapologetic sexism and positions that shift according to

For those who didn’t watch my live commentary on tonight’s debate–that would be most of you!–here are my thoughts. 1) The first half hour was great theater. The moderator left Trump and Clinton alone, like a referee who lets boxers fight it out. The candidates went back and forth, for a while seeming to validate Trump’s suggestion that they might not need a moderator. Trump did very well in this segment, and the subject mostly under discussion, the economy, was vital. 2) The debate went badly downhill in the middle third, with a succession of irrelevant topics–Trump’s business ventures, birtherism, and Trump’s

DEMOCRAT HILLARY CLINTON and Republican Donald Trump will debate on national television for the first time Monday night, and the stakes could not be higher. The presidency and, by extension, the country’s future — maybe the world’s — could hinge on what they say and how they say it. Or so we have been told — in breathless pre-event speculation about everything from whether the moderator, NBC’s Lester Holt, will intervene to correct a candidate who strays from the truth, to whether one candidate or the other will be able to goad his or her opponent into a campaign-altering gaffe

Hillary Clinton was boring and exceptionally well-prepared. Donald Trump was exciting but embarrassingly undisciplined. He began with his strongest argument — that the political class represented by her has failed us and it’s time to look to a successful dealmaker for leadership — and kept to it pretty well for the first 20 minutes. Then due to the vanity and laziness that led him to think he could wing the most important 95 minutes of his life, he lost the thread of his argument, he lost control of his temper and he lost the perspective necessary to correct these mistakes as

Since policing is a problem, the police should be removed from communities altogether, according to Black Lives Matter founder Alicia Garza. Garza argued that the United States gives too much respect to police officers, explaining that when police do wrong, a few bad cops are blamed, rather than a “corroded and corrupt system.” “Quite frankly, many of our [Black Lives Matter] members are continuing to investigate what it would mean to have police-free communities. I think what we’ve continued to see over time is that no moral appeal is actually stopping the deaths of black people, whether they be armed

A United Nations-affiliated group in Geneva is calling for the U.S. to give African Americans reparations for the country?s history of slavery, according to a recent report by the group.
