CNN´s Don Lemon on Thursday insisted that Barack and Michelle Obama are the "closest thing we have to royalty." The anchor was discussing complaints by the First Lady that she had been mistaken for a Target employee during a visit. Lemon lamented, "But speaking to People magazine, according to the Obamas, they´re sometimes treated less than like royals, or the first couple, and more like the help." He began the segment by declaring, "They are America´s first couple, the closest thing that we have to royalty." New York Times columnist Charles Blow quipped, "You´re going to get in so much

Since talking about it on Morning Joe earlier today, a few people have asked me to expound on my theory regarding what Jeb Bush would have to do to overcome the many challenges he would face on his way to the Republican nomination. It seems clear that Bush is hell-bent on not pandering to the base, so the obvious challenge he will have to overcome is winning a Republican primary while holding some positions (immigration reform, Common Core, etc.) which are anathema to the grassroots conservatives who will comprise a decent chunk of the primary electorate. The way to overcome this is

Bill Callaham, a California lawyer, never had a chance to hand over his Rolex, cell phone or hundreds of dollars in cash. The men who attacked him from behind in the Central Business District never made any demands. They beat him unconscious, breaking his nose and his jaw. And afterward, he said, they took nothing. "If somebody had confronted me and asked for money, I would´ve happily given them my money," Callaham said Friday, a week after the assault. "I don´t know if it was random, I mean, I have no idea. I just think it´s a sad state of society

The Internal Revenue Service is crying poor in the face of budget cuts and weighing the possibility of its own short-term shutdown -- even warning that tax refunds could be delayed next year. IRS Commissioner John Koskinen gave details Thursday on ways the tax-collection agency might try to cut costs. He said everything from taxpayer services to enforcement efforts could be affected. But, in a move that could impact millions, he said there could be a lag in refunds being processed. "Everybody´s return will get processed," Koskinen told reporters. "But people have gotten very used to being able to file their return and

NEW YORK – The Rev. Al Sharpton and several community leaders are speaking out about their outrage regarding the execution-style death of two NYPD officers Saturday afternoon. In a statement released Saturday night, Sharpton said he spoke with the Garner family regarding the shooting. “Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases,” the statement said. “We have stressed at every rally and march that anyone engaged in any violence is an enemy to the pursuit of justice

America Urban Radio reporter April Ryan asked President Obama today about the state of black America today compared to before he took office six years ago. Obama said, “Like the rest of America, black America, in the aggregate, is better off now than it was when I came into office.” He brought up America’s “troubled past” while acknowledging it’s “not an excuse for black folks.” But while many African-Americans work hard to provide for their families, “they’re starting behind, oftentimes, in the race.” Obama touted economic progress in the black community and improved education stats among black youths, lamenting how

Two NYPD officers have been killed in an ´execution-style´ ambush in Brooklyn as they sat in their patrol car, in what is thought to be an attempt to avenge the death of Eric Garner. The suspect reportedly walked out of a home in the neighborhood with a gun in his hand, stood behind their marked patrol car then shot dead both officers. The men were taken to Woodhull Hospital after the attack, but authorities later said they had died. Meanwhile the suspect was pursued into the subway, where he shot himself. Investigators have now told the New York Post that

Coming to a theater near you: Al Sharpton. Hollywood ?came to the Rev. Al Thursday as embattled Sony exec Amy Pascal met privately with the black leader for 90 minutes in a bid to fix the fallout from the cyberhacking leak of embarrassing, racially charged emails. Pascal agreed to let Sharpton have a say in how Sony makes motion pictures, in an effort to combat what he called “inflexible and immovable racial exclusion in Hollywood.” “We have agreed to having a working group deal with the racial bias and lack of diversity in Hollywood,” said Sharpton. He said Sony would

Many are blaming the murder of two New York City cops on Saturday afternoon on Mayor Bill de Blasio following his recent support for protesters in the city marching in opposition to a grand jury´s decision to not indict the police officer who killed Eric Garner. Hundreds have taken to social media to say that de Blasio has ´blood on his hands´ and should ´be charged with murder´ after the two men were killed ´execution style´ in Brooklyn. What´s more, many feel that de Blasio should not attend the men´s funeral, this after many members of the NYPD signed a petition asking that the Mayor not attend their service should they be killed

Al Sharpton posted a statement through his National Action Network this evening condemning the deadly ambush of two New York Police Department officers and promising to follow up with a press event Sunday morning. Officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32, were shot to death as they sat in their patrol car Saturday in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Identified gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, then killed himself on a nearby subway platform. Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton has given his first television interview to discuss the damaging cyberattack on the studio. "I think actually the unfortunate part is in this instance, the president, the press and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened," Lynton said in excerpts of the interview that aired on CNN on Friday. "We do not own movie theaters. We cannot determine whether or not a movie will be played in movie theaters. So, to sort of rehearse for a moment the sequence of events, we experienced the worst cyberattack in American history and persevered for
