This is the stupidest government shutdown
in US history. When will Dems get smart about it?

Washington Post, by Marc A. Thiessen

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 1/12/2019 4:06:30 AM

Barring some miraculous breakthrough, on Saturday the current government shutdown will become the longest in American history. But it has already hit another historic milestone: It is, by far and away, the stupidest government shutdown in American history. In 2019, the federal government will spend a whopping $4.407 trillion. Yet Congress and the president are shutting down the government in a dispute between the $1.3 billion the Democrats have approved for border security and the $5.7 billion the president is demanding -- precisely 0.0998 percent of the total federal budget. In Washington, that is considered a rounding error.

No it is not "Congress and the President" who are shutting down the government. It is the democrat communists in the House who are shutting down the government and by the way name one, just one, hardship that is being caused by putting the hundreds of thousands worthless, do nothing, government employees out of work? Who by the way are mostly democrats and by the way are in reality getting a paid vacation at our expense.

The federal government is a monumental obscenity.

The longer talk about this wall goes on, the more a sense of urgency is created within the very people who plan to come here illegally.

Stop talking about it, build the damn wall, and stop the bleeding before America become Amerizuela.

Marc, the entire government shutdown is because of politics. When the Democrats start governing, and stop playing politics, this will all be resolved.

Yes To Refunds, No To Audits: What To

Forbes, by Kelly Phillips Erb    Original Article

As the shutdown rolls on, taxpayers have been left wondering: What does it mean for tax season? Earlier this month, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that tax season would open on time (January 28, 2019) and, in a departure from previous years, that tax refunds would be issued during the shutdown. Over the weekend, the IRS announced that Free File, a free online software program available through IRS.gov, was open for business even as IRS doors remain closed. Today, taxpayers finally received more information about what to expect from the IRS during the government shutdown.

Politics is cyclical. Republicans will not always hold the White House. Democrats will be back. If only they realized now the threats to our democracy that presently are being institutionalized. Threats that will endanger them and their future leaders terribly — and all of us. When “progressives” had Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt in power, did they ever imagine a Reagan Revolution? During Reagan’s fabulously successful conservative presidency, could anyone have imagined a radical-left Wasted Obama Decade? When Obama was at his height, with commanding control of the House and a filibuster-proof Senate, could anyone have predicted fearlessly that America

A “superstar” DEA agent secretly fueled a lavish lifestyle by skimming cash from Colombian cocaine traffickers through a multimillion-dollar scam that officials say is turning into one of the worst scandals in the agency’s history, according to a report Tuesday. Jose Irizarry, who resigned after being recalled from his post in Colombia, was recently identified in court papers as a co-conspirator of a former DEA informant who pleaded guilty to money laundering in Florida, according to the Associated Press. Profits from the scheme helped Irizarry, 44, buy a Land Rover and a home in Cartagena, the Colombian resort city

Last week I wrote about a homeless camp in Seattle near the I-5 freeway, just one of the hundreds (the current estimate is 400) in the Seattle area. After two months of complaints from local business owners and residents about threats, trash, and rodents, the city’s Navigation Team came to remove the residents and clean up the mess. Today a columnist for My Northwest reports a new tent is already up at the freshly cleared site: It hasn’t even been a full week, but a previously-cleared homeless encampment is returning to a north Seattle neighborhood… The encampment was cleared,

Former Texas Senate candidate Beto O´Rourke faced across-the-board criticism on Tuesday after an unflattering interview in The Washington Post portrayed him as equivocal and unsure on a variety of substantive policy issues. O´Rourke, 46, is widely considered a possible 2020 presidential contender, after falling only a few percentage points shy of dethroning incumbent Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in the 2018 midterm elections. But his relative lack of experience and expertise has emerged as a central objection to his prospective candidacy. Speaking to Johnson in El Paso, Texas, O´Rourke added fuel to those concerns by repeatedly demurring

No one had ever before thought that this was an appropriate role for the FBI, a subordinate agency in the executive branch, but President Trump isn’t the only one in Washington trampling norms. The New York Times reported the astonishing news. “Counter-intelligence investigators,” the paper writes, “had to consider whether the president’s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security.” US presidents over the decades have made many foolhardy decisions that have undermined our security; never before have they

He will probably lose the fight. The partial government shutdown, the longest ever, is in its fourth week. The speech lasted less than ten minutes, and in delivering it Trump’s performance was lackluster. He didn’t exhibit any of the passion

Has President Trump suckered Democrats and the Deep State into a trap that will enable a radical downsizing of the federal bureaucracy? In only 5 more days of the already-“longest government shutdown in history” (25 days and counting, as of today), a heretofore obscure threshold will be reached, enabling permanent layoffs of bureaucrats furloughed 30 days or more. Gillette´s new ad, browbeating men through a #MeToo and "toxic masculinity" pitch, supposedly to persuade men to buy their razors, is so revolting it´s possible to think it´s satire. There is also a 30-second version, which doesn´t even seem to be about selling razors: Seriously, did a spy from Schick get into the Procter & Gamble´s advertising agency and concoct an ad very sure to turn potential customers off? Who would want to buy that after such a string of insults? Isn´t ad rule number one to not insult the customer? Well, this one does.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday asked President Donald Trump to reschedule his State of the Union address — or deliver it in writing — as long as the government remains shut down. "Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th," Pelosi wrote in a letter to Trump.

It’s tough to tell. Does this make the shutdown a bug … or a feature? Nancy Pelosi has asked Donald Trump to put off his State of the Union speech to the joint session of Congress until after the funding issues have been resolved: (Copy of Letter/Tweet) And with that, the new Speaker of the House just made the best case possible for a perpetual shutdown. For the last 35 years, the snowpack in the West’s mountains has resisted the impacts of global warming. But that could soon change, according to a new study out of Oregon State University. The study, published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, found that although climate change should have caused a steep decrease in snowpack, naturally occurring, decades-long weather variations shielded the Cascades, Sierras and Rockies from some of the effects. Although snow stations have recorded some decline, it hasn’t been statistically significant.
