Sears Holdings is closing another 40 stores as it aims to survive Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The latest move affects 29 Sears and 11 Kmart locations. The retailer is already in the process of closing about 188 stores: 142 announced in October that will close around the end of 2018 and 46 announced in August that will close in November. Taken together, the closures are expected to leave the company with fewer than 500 locations remaining. The company has estimated it has about 400 stores that could be profitable on their own if it survives bankruptcy. Here´s the map of

Very sad. Growing up my parents purchased from Sears on credit and layaway. My Mom sewed most of my clothes, but when she got in a bind because of all the farm work she did on our small dairy, I got "store-bought" clothes, which was a luxury for me. When I moved to my current house, I had to buy washer/dryer, fridge, stove, range hood, and dishwasher. I bought everything from my Hometown Sears store (those aren´t going away/independently owned), and I saved a lot of money. Montgomery Wards was the only reason we had anything when I was first married. Time marches on.

Sears, you had a good run. Turn off the lights and lock up...it´s time to call it a day.
That leaves our small local Mall with two anchor stores vacancies.

It seems no Sears store is doing well, and hasn´t for many years----but the CEO all that time is very wealthy, and doing great, having harvested it all.

Changing times. Here in Las Vegas, a delightful new "Strip" has evolved from the dying malls over the last two decades, to the west of the resort corridor:

The Sears store that´s closing here is in a thriving upscale area of the LV valley - surprising/puzzling.

Kenmore appliances used to last 20+ years and Craftsman tools had a lifetime replacement guarantee, no questions asked. Cost per use worked out to pennies. Now it seems one is fortunate to buy a washer that lasts five years. I´m not surprised to find Sears circling the toilet.

Sears and Penney´s are two stores that both made a LOT of really bad choices over the years.

Sears has never recovered, and it´s pretty clear that their days are numbered.

At least Penney´s appears to have recovered to some extent.

While they both lost me as a regular customer over the years, I hate to see them crash and burn because of the negative effect it has on local economies. They are often "anchor stores" at malls, and losing a big anchor like that can be devastating to the entire mall. That can end up putting a LOT of people out of work!!!!

She came into Washington like a wrecking ball. Just on Saturday, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced that she will be working with progressive activists to bring primary challenges against some of the more conservative Democrats in Congress, her own soon-to-be colleagues. JACKSON, Miss. - A white Republican senator’s casual reference to a “public hanging” has invigorated a special election runoff in Mississippi, fueling Democratic hopes of an upset in a conservative state with an ugly history of racist violence. The U.S. Senate race between appointed Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democrat Mike Espy, a black former congressman and U.S. agriculture secretary, will test the power of the black vote and the viability of Democrats in a region where Republicans have dominated for decades. The Nov. 27 runoff caps a congressional election cycle drawn out by recounts and too-close-to-call races.

Democrats thinking about running for president in 2020 are dramatically changing the way the party talks about race in Donald Trump’s America: Get ready to hear a lot more about intersectionality, allyship, inclusivity and POC. White and nonwhite Democratic hopefuls are talking more explicitly about race than the party’s White House aspirants ever have — and shrugging off warnings that embracing so-called identity politics could distract from the party’s economic message and push white voters further into Donald Trump’s arms.
