Vice president Pence´s speech outlining the administration´s new policy on China may mark the end of what a 2016 article in Slate called "Bill Clinton´s last legislative victory." Bill believed rebuilding China after the fall of the Soviet Union would bring it into the democratic world order and on to what was then regarded as the end of history. In a 2000 speech at Johns Hopkins University, Clinton said: "Supporting China´s entry into the W.T.O. ... is clearly in our larger national interest. It represents the most significant opportunity that we have had to create positive

Those campaign contributions came from the Chinese military for allowing Loral Corp. to sell top secret missile technology to China. Look how that turned out. I remember reading an article in Newsweek about 45 years ago about the Russians attempt at building a cruise missile. While the U.S. had a functioning cruise missile program, Russian cruise missiles as stated in the article were, " As big as a boxcar, and they keep nose diving into the ground." Allowing China to gain advanced missile technology, Clinton immediately advanced the Chinese military by decades. How this would bring China into the democratic world order and WTO is a head scratcher.

There is absolutely no question that both Clintons are fundamentally corrupt, ALL about money.

But where Hellary is clearly a vicious, evil communist, in addition to being corrupt, it is not clear to me that BillyJeff cared much about anything besides getting women and getting money, really.

The move to help China was terminally stupid, and he will forever be remembered as an incompetent who aided our biggest enemy at at a crucial juncture. Incompetent skirt chasing corrupt fool or Communist sympathizing corrupt skirt chaser? Still not entirely clear.

Either way, a hell of a legacy.

WASHINGTON – Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives, said Apple believes it can achieve the “ambitious goal” to one day make all of its products “using only recycled materials and renewable resources, reducing the need to mine materials from the earth.” When it comes to combating climate change, Jackson said there shouldn’t be any “conflict” between a “healthy planet and a healthy bottom line.” “Now that’s an ambitious goal, one would say a moonshot goal, but it’s one that we believe we can reach because we’re going to use those bright minds in science,” Jackson

For 2500 years a consistent criticism of giving political power to the masses has been the question of competence. To critics like Socrates and Plato, the knowledge of history, philosophy, and facts necessary for governing are beyond the abilities of the average citizen. Hoi polloi had to spend their time making a living rather than studying these disciplines, or they were by nature driven more by their self-interest, appetites, and passions than by the rational search for knowledge of the true and good. Thus from Plato’s Republic to today’s progressive technocrats, some form of technocracy has been preferable to rule

AFP reported Saturday that “experts” say “Western powers fighting Islamist groups around the globe are condemned to a never-ending battle if they only tackle the symptoms and not the underlying causes of jihadist insurgency.” That is true, but these establishment “experts” have no idea of the actual underlying causes, and are recommending the same counterterror remedies that have failed again and again. “The West is on the road to winning all the battles and losing the war,” warns Katherine Zimmerman, who wrote a recent report for the American Enterprise Institute. On that, Zimmerman is actually right. But she and her

In June 2016, I was in London and reported extensively on the Brexit referendum in these pages (see here, for example, and here, here, here, and here). It was, briefly, an ebullient moment. I had been assured by everyone from taxicab drivers to Tory ministers that Brexit hadn’t a chance in hell of passing, and a good thing, too, because it represented “nativist,” “racist,” and “xenophobic” (not to mention Islamophobic and economically illiterate) elements of the population. For me, as for a tiny coterie of friends, Brexit was centrally about sovereignty. The guiding question that precipitated it was Who Rules Britain?

The elite wanted a world without God and they got it. Andrew Sullivan argues that with the decline of traditional religions the godless world has embraced political cults. They are finding the resulting world an uncongenial place. (Snip) But Sullivan´s timeline is wrong. The death of God was announced more than a century ago appropriately enough, by Nietschze´s fictional madman. He already foresaw the vacuum that would come. "Is there still any up or down? Are we not straying, as through an infinite nothing? ... God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him." What

It’s hard to say with certainty whether Christine Blasey Ford has memory issues, mental problems, or is just a liar, but it is crystal clear that her allegations that she was sexually assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh aren’t true. So, when Sports Illustrated shoehorned her into announcing an award, it seemed really strange. (Snip) Of course, people get very angry when you point out the obvious fact that Ford made a false allegation. You get told, “This is why women who are sexually assaulted don’t come forward.” You should blame Ford for that. She’s the one

"One key thing: It actually wasn´t about Trump, or only about Trump on the margins. This was far more in the nature of a weird personal vendetta," Podhoretz tweeted. One wonders if Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have any concept how pathetic and clueless their politically motivated, anti- border wall clichés look in light of the latest terror attack in Strasbourg. Their insistence, in Tuesday´s meeting with Trump, that the wall by itself would not be a panacea--whoever said it was?--and that we don´t have the Islamist threat the Israelis or even the Europeans do to justify its construction now seems extraordinarily simple-minded. In fact it always was. Under the radar and barely remarked upon by our media, that cross-border terror threat has already done something even worse

This is despite the warnings, potential dangers, and last year´s record-number of flu deaths. The survey was done by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. People under the age of 45 were the least likely to report being vaccinated.
