Two astronauts kept ice cool as their rocket travelling at thousands of miles an hour malfunctioned on the edge of space while carrying them to the International Space Station, cockpit audio reveals. Russian Aleksey Ovchinin and American Nick Hague made it back to Earth alive this morning after the booster on their Soyuz rocket broke at 164,000 feet and the rocket automatically turned back during a dramatic 7G ´ballistic re-entry´. Ovchinin retained an enviable sang-froid as he realised what was happening, after they were rocked violently around in their seats by the force of the booster malfunction. ´An accident with

Sabotage suspected? Are Muslims working on the Rooskie rockets?

Ancient rocket design, about 60 years old, normally pretty reliable.

Good that astronauts are safe.

The technology is old as dirt, but the darn thing works. Never break or fix something that has performed well up to this point.

I am not sure however about the maintenance procedures. Are they using reconditioned parts and that was the failure mechanism, a new deceleration rocket, a bad gimbal, or maybe they changed the recovery software. Lots of things to look at.

The Russians are not very forth coming about details on their mistakes.

We really need a new vehical to take our astronauts to the ISS. We need to increase NASA´s budget to about $18 billion dollars. I mean we need a wall for immigration protection, we need a real budget for our space program, and a realistic budget for our military.

All other agencies need a good budget house cleaning.

Let Virgin or Elon Musk fly people to the moon or Mars or wherever. If there is value in space ventures, the American way is to let private enterprise take the risks and earn the rewards. Enthusiasts are free to buy stocks rather than invest tax (and publicly borrowed) money.

Since we now use Russia as our Uber, with no change in sight, shouldn´t we start referring to our guys as "cosmonauts"?

NASA ended up becoming just another government agency. So much for the right stuff. Loose tiles, brittle O-rings equals lots of dead Americans. At least the Russians saved a few this time.

#1, Gagarin flew in the Vostok capsule on the Vostok-K rocket in 1961. The Soyuz is a slightly improved version of teh Vostok, first flown in 1966. They are very similar, ancient designs.

I thought it had a leak a few weeks ago from space junk or did the hole have a more earthly origin? THen later they were saying the Soyuz was damaged on the ground by a drill not orbital debris. A criminal probe sounds warranted.

Biggest mistake NASA made was ending the shuttle program before they had something to take it´s place. It´s an embarrassment that U.S. has to pay Russia to take U.S. astronauts to a space station the U.S. built.

From a pure economic/financial perspective this Nike branding campaign doesn’t make sense…. unless, you realize a much bigger picture. A hidden bigger picture. On its face, it just seems absurd. Why would any major corporation intentionally stake out a branding position that is adverse to their financial interests? The 18th of March 2018, was the day tech insiders had been dreading. That night, a new moon added almost no light to a poorly lit four-lane road in Tempe, Arizona, as a specially adapted Uber Volvo XC90 detected an object ahead. Part of the modern gold rush to develop self-driving vehicles, the SUV had been driving autonomously, with no input from its human backup driver, for 19 minutes. An array of radar and light-emitting lidar sensors allowed onboard algorithms to calculate that, given their host vehicle’s steady speed of 43mph,

Nearly everybody loves music. In fact, music can often bridge the gaps between people when nothing else can. And there are few things more fun than seeing people react to hit songs. There’s definitely no formula to what constitutes a hit song, although some songs were natural hits from the first time they made their way on the radio – think about songs like “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” or “Irreplaceable.” Other tunes become smashes inexplicably. But there’s a whole different category of hits: overrated songs. Some singles have no business being popular or well-loved, and
