At Sen. John McCain’s funeral, as mourners gathered to remember the service and sacrifice of one of America’s most prominent politicians, the cameras caught a heartwarming moment. Former First Lady Michelle Obama, seated next to former President George W. Bush, held out her hand as he placed something into her palm. It was a cough drop. It was a reminder that two people with very different political views can be friends. Speaking on the “Today Show” on Thursday, Obama said she didn’t realize the moment had been caught on camera, but described her relationship with the former president from the

Adorbs is, I take it, idiot-slang for the word “adorable.” Each week there is a section in one of the celebrity magazines, maybe “Us” or “Star”, which is entitled something like “Stars: They’re just like you!” It features pictures of what passes for well-known entertainers doing things like pushing strollers, carrying shopping bags in their flip flops or playing with their dogs at a beach. The idea is that the target reader, presumably someone who has a hard time believing that Ryan Gosling passes gas or that Kim Kardashian gets pimples thinks, “Gee! Maybe celebrities ARE just like me.” For such a person this feeling of commonality with celebrities is a source of dizzying joy and wonderment. These pictures are, of course, set ups by the celebrities, their publicists and photographers but the aim is to humanize the anointed for purposes of endearment which might lead to cash. Perhaps Michelle or W. or both is about to come out with a book or another item to sell but we are also to remember that BamBu are thick as thieves while Pres. Trump wasn´t even invited to the boneyard celebration. The trouble is that most adults, especially those who vote, don’t care. The American press is pathebs.

The Weekly Standard will be no more. There is no real reason we are witnessing the magazine’s demise other than deep pettiness and a personal desire for bureaucratic revenge on the part of a penny-ante Machiavellian who works for its parent company. There would at least be a larger meaning to the Standard’s end if it were being killed because it was hostile to Donald Trump. But I do not believe that is the case.
