Kavanaugh coping mechanisms:
5 wild Dem schemes to
counter Trump´s SCOTUS win

Fox News, by Adam Shaw

After failing to block the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Democrats and allies in the media are shifting course to float a range of ideas -- some far-fetched -- to curb the rightward shift of the court. They range from packing the bench with more justices to overhauling the Constitution itself. Here´s a look at some of the strategies that have taken off in the opinion pages, social media-sphere and cable talk circuit. Packing the Court President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once famously threatened to expand the Supreme Court to as many as 15 justices after the court ruled against

FTA: Newsweek, meanwhile, noted Kavanaugh is the “fourth Supreme Court justice nominated by [a] president who didn’t win the popular vote” -- referring to Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch under Trump, and John Roberts and Samuel Alito, under former President George W. Bush.

Actually, they are the fifth and sixth - Ginsberg and Breyer were nominated by Bill Clinton who never won the popular vote. His first election he won with only 43% of the popular vote. The second was higher percentage, but still less than 50%.

Let´s see. Packing the court requires a Democrat President and a Democrat Senate. Constitutional change require 75% of the states to agree and the small states want no part of eliminating the Electoral College.

Impeachment requires some crime and 67% of the Senate to be Democrat.

The Mconnell Rule is really the Biden Rule!

The lipsticked Puerto Rican is wrong again.
When the 1787 constitutional convention was held, the other states were concerned that Virginia, the largest state, with a large slave population, would dominated the proposed United States.
A compromise was reached, creating a bicameral congress, with one representing districts by population, the other with two senators each. And slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person in calculating Representatives. Those were limiting factors for Virginia.
The electoral college, as part of that debate, created seats based on representatives plus senators from each state.
I have to wonder if the lipsticked Puerto Rican ever went to class while at Boston university.f

Insane ideas 1-4 are just plain impossible from any even remotely sane look at the required votes in Congress and the State Legislatures. Impossible.

#5 will not happen either, McConnell has already told us about this. He said, when asked specifically about this situation, "when a President of the opposite party of Congress appoints a Supreme Court justice in a Presidential election year, it should be delayed until after the election." (my italics). Trump is not of the opposite party of Congress, so that option is CLOSED, unless they take both houses this November. That will not happen, I will bet $1000.

Too bad the reporters don´t pay attention, or are just uninformed. McConnell has already closed that door. They WILL scream, as will the Enemedia, but he has pointed out what the difference is, and my bet is he will be just as firm on this as he was on Garland.

Big middle finger to the Dems.

We won. Get used to it. We will win again this November.

The FBI set former national security advisor Michael Flynn up. That is about all we can make of the latest revelation that the FBI made serious breaches of protocol when it set up the Jan. 24, 2017, meeting with Flynn to ask him about his Dec. 2016 conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kisylak. We now know the FBI did not go through the White House counsel first, suggest Flynn have a lawyer present, or advise him of his rights prior to the interview. Former FBI director James Comey even appeared on MSNBC to brag about the breach, stating:

Jim Geraghty asks “Who’s Equipped to Hold the Trump Coalition Together?” He concludes: "There is no natural ideological successor, which suggests that if or when Trump retires after two terms, is defeated after one, is impeached, or however he departs the stage, there will be no one who will be able to bring together the same factions in the same way." Geraghty’s last three words — “in the same way” — are key. Trump is sufficiently unorthodox that it’s unrealistic to think an ideological successor who convincingly subscribes to the full menu of Trumpism will emerge.

For 2500 years a consistent criticism of giving political power to the masses has been the question of competence. To critics like Socrates and Plato, the knowledge of history, philosophy, and facts necessary for governing are beyond the abilities of the average citizen. Hoi polloi had to spend their time making a living rather than studying these disciplines, or they were by nature driven more by their self-interest, appetites, and passions than by the rational search for knowledge of the true and good. Thus from Plato’s Republic to today’s progressive technocrats, some form of technocracy has been preferable to rule

AFP reported Saturday that “experts” say “Western powers fighting Islamist groups around the globe are condemned to a never-ending battle if they only tackle the symptoms and not the underlying causes of jihadist insurgency.” That is true, but these establishment “experts” have no idea of the actual underlying causes, and are recommending the same counterterror remedies that have failed again and again. “The West is on the road to winning all the battles and losing the war,” warns Katherine Zimmerman, who wrote a recent report for the American Enterprise Institute. In June 2016, I was in London and reported extensively on the Brexit referendum in these pages (see here, for example, and here, here, here, and here). It was, briefly, an ebullient moment. I had been assured by everyone from taxicab drivers to Tory ministers that Brexit hadn’t a chance in hell of passing, and a good thing, too, because it represented “nativist,” “racist,” and “xenophobic” (not to mention Islamophobic and economically illiterate) elements of the population. For me, as for a tiny coterie of friends, Brexit was centrally about sovereignty. The guiding question that precipitated it was Who Rules Britain?

The elite wanted a world without God and they got it. Andrew Sullivan argues that with the decline of traditional religions the godless world has embraced political cults. They are finding the resulting world an uncongenial place. (Snip) But Sullivan´s timeline is wrong. The death of God was announced more than a century ago appropriately enough, by Nietschze´s fictional madman. He already foresaw the vacuum that would come. "Is there still any up or down? So, when Sports Illustrated shoehorned her into announcing an award, it seemed really strange. (Snip) Of course, people get very angry when you point out the obvious fact that Ford made a false allegation. You get told, “This is why women who are sexually assaulted don’t come forward.” You should blame Ford for that. She’s the one

One wonders if Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have any concept how pathetic and clueless their politically motivated, anti- border wall clichés look in light of the latest terror attack in Strasbourg. Their insistence, in Tuesday´s meeting with Trump, that the wall by itself would not be a panacea--whoever said it was?--and that we don´t have the Islamist threat the Israelis or even the Europeans do to justify its construction now seems extraordinarily simple-minded. The former "conscience of the Senate" has been hired to represent China´s ZTE telecommunications company, which is basically a front organization for Chinese intelligence services. ZTE is under pressure in light of overdue U.S. government efforts to prevent it from entrenching a stronger position in the U.S. economy. There are stirrings of discussion these days in philosophical circles about the prospect of human extinction. This should not be surprising, given the increasingly threatening predations of climate change. In reflecting on this question, I want to suggest an answer to a single question, one that hardly covers the whole philosophical territory but is an important aspect of it. Would human extinction be a tragedy? To get a bead on this question, let me distinguish it from a couple of other related questions. I’m not asking whether the experience of humans coming to an end would be a bad thing.
