Lessons Learned: The GOP´s Weak Links
American Thinker, by J.R. Dunn

There is one single major cause for the chaos surrounding Republican SCOTUS confirmations over the past thirty years – the fulcrum for the entire exercise of humiliating conservative judges. It´s not the Democrats, it´s not the left, and it´s not the feminists. They aren´t the crucial factor. They simply take advantage of it. Quite simply put, it´s the GOP weak links. Let´s be clear on terminology: these are not RINOs. Of the four who succeeded in disrupting the Kavanaugh nomination, none fits the classic mold of the RINO – the go-along-to-get-along type who adapts

Fantastic article. Thanks for posting, OP.

So there it is. We elect marginal Republicans, and then they hold us hostage at times like this. They create crises within party discipline, and then demand concessions to resolve them.

As I´ve said many times, these people have way too much leverage--both in the way described in this great article, and in my complaint: That the media goes to them to find dissenting views that echo Democrat talking points. In the twisted media universe that controls the narrative, finding an Republican idiot counts as substantiation to a Democrat attack. McCain played this game for decades, backed by various toadies.

What then must be done? First, recognize that these people are a problem, not a solution. Second, find any alternative we can during primary season. Lastly, if it can be done without costing us control of Congress, consider voting for a Democrat who may do less harm..

When asked to support a repugnant Democrat, President Kennedy said, "Sometimes party loyalty asks too much." In dealing with these marginal Republicans, we need to ensure that party disloyalty pays a much higher price.

In the end only one Republican defected. Hopefully she gets primaried.

The Democrats are in your face, but the Republicans are the real backstabbers.

The Democrats tried to destroy Kavanagh, and the Republicans nearly let it happen. We´ll never know how many Republicans were considering dumping Kavanagh, but it was likely more than Murkowski.

At least the Republicans still respond to the voting public for the most part. The Democrats do as they please.

It´s that time of year again. Not just Santa, but for the press, lists, lots of lists, including a clickable one on a think-tank´s assessment of who the most corrupt members of Congress were this year. According to the Daily Caller: A conservative-leaning watchdog group says House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are the biggest congressional scofflaws of 2018, for their anemic handling of the settlement slush fund that used an unlimited pot of taxpayer money to pay off congressional staff in exchange for signing legal

"There are some who say that communism is the wave of the future. Let them come to Berlin!" That was June 1963 in West Berlin where President John F. Kennedy gave one of his most memorable addresses. The speech was a stirring defense of liberty and a pointed critique of communism. Whether you agree with Kennedy broadly or narrowly, I´ve rediscovered that speech and find it to relate now more than ever to the unfolding drama in the country of my birth, Venezuela. My family and I left Venezuela when I was 10.

When a seven-year-old girl died of dehydration and shock while in U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody after being brought here illegally by her father, Democrats and the liberal MSM immediately began blaming her death on President Trump´s border and immigration policies. The fact that the little girl hadn´t consumed food or water for several days and endured who knows what other physical and emotional trauma over the grueling and dangerous two-thousand-mile journey from her home in Guatemala didn´t seem to affect the narrative of Democrats and the MSM that President Trump is somehow responsible for her tragic death.

Chuck Schumer clearly thinks that he’s got a winning issue with blaming President Trump for a prospective “government shutdown” Friday, if no budget bill is passed that includes $5 billion for border wall improvements. Since he promises that no such money will be forthcoming from the Senate, he obviously anticipates the public reacting in horror over the Christmas holidays as federal employees labeled “non-essential” stay home. But Rep. Thomas Massey, a libertarian-leaning GOP House member from Kentucky, has published an amazing graph that shows how meaningless this “disaster” really is for almost everybody:

Looks like political correctness lost one at the Miss Universe pageant. Catriona Gray of the Philippines was crowned Miss Universe 2018 at the final on Sunday in Bangkok, beating out two lovely women from South Africa and Venezuela. I would have picked South Africa myself, but oh, am I happy Miss Philippines won. Lovely contestant, very happy to cheer Miss Philippines, she´s a fine choice. The problem this time around has been that the contest has started to become a venue for transsexuals, who look every bit like the imitation of women that they actually are.

You just don´t expect the words ´Putin´ and ´rap´ to appear in the same headline. But here we are, with the Russian president extraordinaire declaring that the Kremlin must "take charge" of rap music. Lookit: Putin wants government to "take charge" of rap music ...and here´s what the BBC story said: Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked the government to "take charge" of rap music after a number of concerts were cancelled across the country. Efforts to ban rap were "impossible" and so the state should play a greater role in controlling it, he said.

This snake sculpture is a gift from the Chicago branch of The Satanic Temple. Called "Snaketivity," the work also has a sign that reads, "Knowledge Is The Greatest Gift." Bit by bit, like Ozymandias chipped away by shifting desert sands, the Obamacare monolith is coming down. Friday, a Texas court struck down the law as ´unconstitutional´ based on Congress repealing the individual mandate in 2017. Rick Moran wrote about it here. And for those of us stuck in the individual market with no choice but to buy the hellish Obamacare, that´s a relief. Maybe it gets appealed successfully by lefty states such as California, maybe it doesn´t. The former "conscience of the Senate" has been hired to represent China´s ZTE telecommunications company, which is basically a front organization for Chinese intelligence services. ZTE is under pressure in light of overdue U.S. government efforts to prevent it from entrenching a stronger position in the U.S. economy.
