Voters open to candidates who
aren’t very religious: AP poll

Associated Press, by David Crary

NEW YORK — Religion’s role in politics and public policy is in the spotlight heading toward the midterm elections, yet relatively few Americans consider it crucial that a candidate be devoutly religious or share their religious beliefs, according to a poll released Tuesday by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Just 25 percent of Americans say it’s very or extremely important that a candidate has strong religious beliefs, according to the poll. Only 19 percent consider it very or extremely important that a candidate shares their own beliefs, and nearly half say that’s not very important or not

More evidence of the media’s total disconnect with reality. Religions role in politics is far from being the spotlight in the mid-term elections. The survival of our Republic is. God has our backs regardless of what church our politicians pretend to go to.

So? Even very religious people don’t vote based on their religion. The media, trying to make something that we already know into a news flash.

I dont care what someone´s religious beliefs may or may not be. I am only interested in their policy positions, demonstrable experience and effectiveness, their reliability on casting votes consistent with their stated positions and a guarantee that they will not vote to infringe on "my" ability to practice or not practice my religious beliefs.

I thought that is exactly what happen in the last election. Evangelicals and other Christians voted for Trump despite his flaws. And it should scare the AsPress and others to Hades knowing that a huge ,consistant and devoted voting demgraphic is willing to vote for the policies, not the religion.

#3, careful, as there are a whole group of conservative sounding Democrats running this year who will be forced to vote with the San Fran liberal establishment agenda.

So, hope people don´t get suckered into thinking "this person sound reasonable".

I vote with a moral filter. Voting for President Trump was a choice between a woman who championed baby killing and a man who was not chaste. I figured that murder was the most serious.

Well, in some past cases we may have fallen for the person who portrayed himself as at the right hand of God (e.g., Jimmy Carter), but where did that get us?

And we gave our money and loyalty to some preacher, priest, bishop, etc., who made a similar claim, and where did that get us?

I don´t believe anybody about any thing any more---and that includes the dentist who was lying to me yesterday. [Shrug.]

Re#6......... not a snowballs chance in hades that I would ever pull the lever for a democrat. Experience has repeatedly demonstrated that no matter how much they claim to be "their own man", able to work across the aisle or how conservative that claim to be or even were, none of it means a thing once they get into congress. Democrats will vote lock step with the democrat positions no matter how pretzled their logic.

That "MAY" be different for local elections. But my default position is to refer to above. Never ever trust a democrat with power.....ever.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser Christine Blasey Ford will go head-to-head in testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee next Monday. The hearing sets up a potential show down on Capitol Hill, the likes of which have not been seen since Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill testified in 1991 after she accused him of sexual harassment. Thomas was ultimately confirmed after a bitter and bruising battle. But the Kavanaugh-Ford hearing comes more than 25 years later, amid the #metoo movement, and when women have been energized after the election of Donald Trump as president.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s treatment of a more than 3-decade-old sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was unfair all around. It was unfair to Kavanaugh, unfair to his accuser and unfair to Feinstein’s colleagues — Democrats and Republicans alike — on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Feinstein, a California Democrat, took the worst possible course by waiting until almost a week after Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing was completed to ominously announce that she had turned over “information from an individual” about Kavanaugh to the FBI, and adding that she would be honoring the woman’s “strongly requested” confidentiality.
