CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston County Emergency Management is urging citizens who live in low-lying areas and are concerned about flooding to follow the Governor’s order and evacuate. The new release states that those needing assistance evacuating to a hurricane shelter can find transportation pickup points on Charleston County’s 2018 Hurricane Guide at Charlestoncounty.org. Buses will run until 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, according to officials. Depending on weather conditions, this may be the last opportunity for citizens to utilize County transportation to a shelter. If you plan to stay at a shelter be sure to bring all medications, food, water,

Comments:
At this point it appears that in our area (Otranto--in Hanahan), flooding will be a larger problem than wind (although that could become a serious problem on the lengthy bridges over the rivers into the area).

Last evening, looking at webcams on I-26 around Charleston. Both sides turned to westbound, but really thin traffic.

Good luck folks. It looks like the rain is going to be the biggest deal.

A bit more traffic around Charleston, both sides of I-26 are west bound. You can see where they have shut down on ramps, turning cars the other way. Strange.

Still not any sort of heavy traffic.

No offense to the Carolinans but I am past caring if they leave or not. They have been warned and will make their own choices. The 24/7 gleeful breathless coverage of this by the cable news networks is over the top.

These people need all the prayers we can muster. Hurricanes frighten me, been thru too many.

I worry about those late leaving who can´t find gas. One woman said all the stations are closed where she lives.

The Republican National Committee on Monday backed comments by President Trump that were critical of retired Navy Admiral William McRaven, best known for overseeing the Navy SEAL operation that resulted in the death of Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden. In a Twitter post from its official @GOP account, the RNC noted that McRaven "was reportedly on Hillary Clinton’s short list for Vice President in 2016." "He’s been critical of President @realDonaldTrump— even dating back to the 2016 campaign," the tweet added. "He’s hardly a non-political figure." WASHINGTON - Sixteen Democratic members of Congress vowed on Monday to oppose fellow Democrat Nancy Pelosi’s bid to become speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, but none of them openly said they would run against her. They were not joined by Representative Marcia Fudge of Ohio, the only potential Pelosi rival to emerge so far from the party’s rank and file. As Democrats wrestle with the choice of speaker for 2019-2020, Pelosi has argued that even at the age of 78 she is best qualified, rejecting some younger Democrats’ argument that a new generation of leaders was needed. Troubled Broward County in Florida had a reason to celebrate on Sunday as it submitted its recounted vote totals to the secretary of state´s office with 52 minutes to spare. But its neighboring Palm Beach County got its votes in a mere one second before the noon deadline. Broward and Palm Beach were two of the four counties that became infamous during the 2000 presidential recount in the Sunshine State. Broward struggled with its infamy again this year when officials lost over two thousand ballots and Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes became a target of social media criticism for her management of the

The United States is laying the groundwork for a long-term commitment to eastern Syria that will include “stabilization” after the defeat of Islamic State and also the demand that “Iranian-commanded forces” leave Syria before the US withdraws. Over the last six months, this policy has increasingly crystalized. It was finally spelled out by US special representative for Syria engagement James Jeffrey at the end of last week. US intervention in Syria to target Islamic State began in September 2014 to stop the extremists from taking the Kurdish city of Kobani. Scientists say they have uncovered how and why wombats produce cube-shaped poo - the only known species to do so. The Australian marsupial can pass up to 100 deposits of poop a night and they use the piles to mark territory. The shape helps it stop rolling away. Despite having round anuses like other mammals, wombats do not produce round pellets, tubular coils or messy piles. Researchers revealed on Sunday the varied elasticity of the intestines help to sculpt the poop into cubes.
