Thread 2 Editor's extra: Saturday, 15 March 2003-- Our mailbox runneth over with information you want to share with your fellow posters in 'Support Of Our Troops'. For example, an LDotter wrote:
Can you please post a url/e-mail address to which we can direct mail to our men and women serving in the military? I have sent e-mails via www.salts.navy.mil/main/troops and it works quite well. It is, however, only for personnel aboard ships. I have gotten some very touching responses and they have spurred me on to spread the word - they really need our support!
This weekend we invite you to our LDot Rally Round-the-table - Support Our Troops!

Comments:
Crew members take their lunch on the mess deck on the USS Theodore Roosevelt Wednesday, March 12. The crew on the TR use mealtimes as a chance to sit with friends in a welcome break from shifts which sometimes exceed 12 hours. The TR heads one of five carrier-based battle groups deployed in the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf and has been at sea for more the two months.

I had an email address where you could send, at the time a Christmas Greeting, to the troops.
Ugh, I can't find it now! I'm still looking...

The anti-American and anti-Bush comments by the likes of the "Ditsy Hicks", etc. that get all the media attention make me literally sick. It's great to have this WRT and to read all these posts by "real" Americans!
Our country, our president and our troops have been in my daily prayers for many months. I believe that God is in charge and that in the end, good will prevail.
Thank you to all the brave volunteers who've answered the call to defend this great country. May God protect you, fill you with courage, and bring you home safely to your loved ones.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Hey ladies and gents of the United States Armed Forces! We love, support, respect and admire you all. Words can't really convey everything in our hearts, but we're all doing what we can in our own little ways.
Every night I pray for an Army of Angels to accompany you wherever you are, whatever you may encounter. By now, you should have met some of these angels personally--wondering if they are as bored and anxious to get on with the mission as you are
Here in B'Ham, AL, we just opened a franchise store that is a sports-themed hair shop for men and boys. Kind of a modern day barber shop. We're providing dozens of free cuts for our boys nearby in Company B and the 87th Training Division/Reserves. We have plans to help out families missing a deployed spouse. We help out our neighbor with little things that normally her husband would do... but he's in Bagram putting his body in harm's way for all of us. He was supposed to come home for good this month, but our neighbor just received word that his absence would continue, "indefinitely."

Hey again soldiers! Here's one way we civilians are doing our part. When these ridiculous assclowns from HollyWeird and the Music World spout off--especially while standing on foreign soil--we let 'em know what we think, then we stop buying their stuff. The Dixie Twits are the latest example. We're going to take our two Dixie Twit CDs out in the middle of the street and drive over them with our Mini-Van.
AMERICANS, GO HERE AND TELL THE TWITS WHAT YOU THINK, AND SIGN THE PETITION:

Seabee_Pe: THANKS! BATTERIES! I KNEW there was something I'd left off my list, and I am sure I've left other items off, also. My boxes have so much stuff crammed into them I use duct tape instead of packing tape..
I am such a frequent visitor to our little PO the ladies there have even paid for the postage on some packages as their contribution.
Forget the prostesters. When you come out of the PO, the feelings of having done something so nice for the military will overcome any anger you have at the useful idiots. Hint: Just imagine the smiles as the receiver opens his box. Does wonders for your psyche.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen of the Military,
As a Viet Nam Veteran, I hope and pray that you never experience the disdain and rejection we experienced. YOU, ladies and gentlemen, represent the very best of America. We support you, we pray for you and, most of all, we want this war to end quickly and ALL of you to come home safe and sound.
God bless you all, God bless America and God bless bless our leaders with wisdom and foresight.

God Bless all of our servicemen and women...you make us proud...you are what makes this country great. You put your lives on the line, so that freedom may endure. Words cannot express how thankful I am for your selfless service.
You are the tip of the sword, a righteous retribution for those who were killed on September 11th. May your aim be true, your hearts be bold, may you never tire and may you come home -- to the America that loves you, safe and sound.
Our prayers are with you, now and always.

...Wonderful idea, these threads, Lucianne and Amy. A looooong awaited return of the WRT and salute to our warfighters in one.
Thanks MM, #7, for expressing what I was thinking as another VietNam vet - I hope NOT ONE of our guys has to endure the nastiness we did when we returned home from Southeast Asia.
God bless and watch over U.S. warfighters in the gulf. I deal with these guys every day in support of the war effort, and I KNOW what a dedicated and highly motivated group they are.
GREETINGS TO ALL...

While we are all anxious to find various means to send our support to the troops, don't forget that those who hate us are looking for ways to attack.
Some web sites that claim to be supportive may in reality be gathering information to use against them. I cannot give out the source of this information, but a warning was sent out concerning the NACEC.org website:
This website may be used for information gathering on US soldiers and family members for nefarious purposes. The site claims to provide emergency notifications in order to support military families, and requests service members names, addresses, Social Security Numbers (SSN) as well as names and addresses of family members, and other privacy act information.
There is no reason they would need SSN and so much other info. Be careful what information you give out to strangers.

God bless each and every one of you in our armed forces. You are so very courageous and self-less. You and your families are in my prayers every day. Please don't pay any attention to those loathesome protestors. They are NOT in the majority and you cannot believe anything you hear in the biased press. The majority of Americans support you--100%. We are grateful. Be strong and God bless you all. We will see you all home safely and soon.

Books! Send them books. I recall during the Korea "conflict" that books were scarce and we read them one page at a time. After the owner finished with a page of "Kiss Me Deadly" he would tear it out of the book and pass it on to the next guy in line. It sometimes got frustrating trying to find the next page. Military personnel have always been voracious readers.
God Bless our servicemembers and bring them home soon.

"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag." ~Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, Sergeant, USMC
May the Lord watch over every one of you, keep you safe, and bring you home.

I have a nephew over there and we just received a letter from him dated Feb. 24th! From what he said we assume he's on the front lines and really roughing it.
Just so you know - takes about 3 weeks for them to receive packages so get'em together quickly and send. One item he LOVED receiving was SOCKS. I doubt if they get washed out much so new ones are a treat and the old ones can go in the fire. They also love getting pictures, so send them some of you and of anytown USA.

This is the first time since the Revolution that my family has not had a member in the US military so I have adopted all our sons and daughters in prayers.
#22 the gift of socks were so appreciated in the gulf war and an excellent idea.Grits of sand are so abrasive. We sent white for off duty with cushioned bottoms in addition to others.
A perfect filler for packages is popcorn
and our kids loved it .
Also boxes of powered gatoraide were consumed faster than we could mail them.
I was pleased this morning with all the gagging peace/ani -war Tv to hear Fox call the tune like it is---Pro Saddam indicating their and our disgust.

My son is in Afghanistan and I'm so proud of the way he has chosen to enjoy himself there. He loves the little Afghani children and thinks they are just beautiful. His group went to a village out in the boondocks where there were only mud huts. They weren't sure if anybody still lived there because nobody was around. After they started setting up for their mission, whatever it was, the people started coming out of the huts, especially the little kids. They would squat and watch the soldiers. After a while, 3 little girls were giggling and my son asked the interpreter what it was about. He said they thought my son was a handsome foreigner!! He played with the little kids for a while before they left the village. I don't know about you, but this makes me feel good.

Just got an email from my son. He said something that made me cry as soon as I read it. He said "I think it would be nice to hear more about those who have some common sense and are in favor of deposing Saddam, we don't ever hear of anything but Vietnam-style protests back home, and that starts damaging soldier morale out here. I've had to comfort my guys on several occasions when they've asked if they're going to be spit on and harassed like soldiers were back in the '70's, and I tell them that no, our countrymen don't hate us, they just hate the politicians who make the decisions to send us places. Hope this all kicks off soon, the whole world will be a safer place when Saddam is out of the picture." Our guys need to know we're behind them, the sooner, the better.
