Saturday, 15 March 2003--
Our mailbox runneth over with information you want to share with your fellow posters in 'Support Of Our Troops'. For example, an LDotter wrote:

Can you please post a url/e-mail address to which we can direct mail to our men and women serving in the military? I have sent e-mails via www.salts.navy.mil/main/troops and it works quite well. It is, however, only for personnel aboard ships. I have gotten some very touching responses and they have spurred me on to spread the word - they really need our support!

This weekend we invite you to our LDot Rally Round-the-table - Support Our Troops!

Comments:

Crew members take their lunch on the mess deck on the USS Theodore Roosevelt Wednesday, March 12. The crew on the TR use mealtimes as a chance to sit with friends in a welcome break from shifts which sometimes exceed 12 hours. The TR heads one of five carrier-based battle groups deployed in the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf and has been at sea for more the two months.

I had an email address where you could send, at the time a Christmas Greeting, to the troops.

Ugh, I can't find it now! I'm still looking...

The anti-American and anti-Bush comments by the likes of the "Ditsy Hicks", etc. that get all the media attention make me literally sick. It's great to have this WRT and to read all these posts by "real" Americans!

Our country, our president and our troops have been in my daily prayers for many months. I believe that God is in charge and that in the end, good will prevail.

Thank you to all the brave volunteers who've answered the call to defend this great country. May God protect you, fill you with courage, and bring you home safely to your loved ones.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Hey ladies and gents of the United States Armed Forces! We love, support, respect and admire you all. Words can't really convey everything in our hearts, but we're all doing what we can in our own little ways.

Every night I pray for an Army of Angels to accompany you wherever you are, whatever you may encounter. By now, you should have met some of these angels personally--wondering if they are as bored and anxious to get on with the mission as you are

Here in B'Ham, AL, we just opened a franchise store that is a sports-themed hair shop for men and boys. Kind of a modern day barber shop. We're providing dozens of free cuts for our boys nearby in Company B and the 87th Training Division/Reserves. We have plans to help out families missing a deployed spouse. We help out our neighbor with little things that normally her husband would do... but he's in Bagram putting his body in harm's way for all of us. He was supposed to come home for good this month, but our neighbor just received word that his absence would continue, "indefinitely."

Hey again soldiers! Here's one way we civilians are doing our part. When these ridiculous assclowns from HollyWeird and the Music World spout off--especially while standing on foreign soil--we let 'em know what we think, then we stop buying their stuff. The Dixie Twits are the latest example. We're going to take our two Dixie Twit CDs out in the middle of the street and drive over them with our Mini-Van.

AMERICANS, GO HERE AND TELL THE TWITS WHAT YOU THINK, AND SIGN THE PETITION:

Seabee_Pe: THANKS! BATTERIES! I KNEW there was something I'd left off my list, and I am sure I've left other items off, also. My boxes have so much stuff crammed into them I use duct tape instead of packing tape..

I am such a frequent visitor to our little PO the ladies there have even paid for the postage on some packages as their contribution.

Forget the prostesters. When you come out of the PO, the feelings of having done something so nice for the military will overcome any anger you have at the useful idiots. Hint: Just imagine the smiles as the receiver opens his box. Does wonders for your psyche.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen of the Military,

As a Viet Nam Veteran, I hope and pray that you never experience the disdain and rejection we experienced. YOU, ladies and gentlemen, represent the very best of America. We support you, we pray for you and, most of all, we want this war to end quickly and ALL of you to come home safe and sound.

God bless you all, God bless America and God bless bless our leaders with wisdom and foresight.

God Bless all of our servicemen and women...you make us proud...you are what makes this country great. You put your lives on the line, so that freedom may endure. Words cannot express how thankful I am for your selfless service.

You are the tip of the sword, a righteous retribution for those who were killed on September 11th. May your aim be true, your hearts be bold, may you never tire and may you come home -- to the America that loves you, safe and sound.

Our prayers are with you, now and always.

...Wonderful idea, these threads, Lucianne and Amy. A looooong awaited return of the WRT and salute to our warfighters in one.

Thanks MM, #7, for expressing what I was thinking as another VietNam vet - I hope NOT ONE of our guys has to endure the nastiness we did when we returned home from Southeast Asia.

God bless and watch over U.S. warfighters in the gulf. I deal with these guys every day in support of the war effort, and I KNOW what a dedicated and highly motivated group they are.

GREETINGS TO ALL...

While we are all anxious to find various means to send our support to the troops, don't forget that those who hate us are looking for ways to attack.

Some web sites that claim to be supportive may in reality be gathering information to use against them. I cannot give out the source of this information, but a warning was sent out concerning the NACEC.org website:

This website may be used for information gathering on US soldiers and family members for nefarious purposes. The site claims to provide emergency notifications in order to support military families, and requests service members names, addresses, Social Security Numbers (SSN) as well as names and addresses of family members, and other privacy act information.

There is no reason they would need SSN and so much other info. Be careful what information you give out to strangers.

God bless each and every one of you in our armed forces. You are so very courageous and self-less. You and your families are in my prayers every day. Please don't pay any attention to those loathesome protestors. They are NOT in the majority and you cannot believe anything you hear in the biased press. The majority of Americans support you--100%. We are grateful. Be strong and God bless you all. We will see you all home safely and soon.

Reply 19 - Posted by: knub, 3/15/2003 2:04:53 PM

Books! Send them books. I recall during the Korea "conflict" that books were scarce and we read them one page at a time. After the owner finished with a page of "Kiss Me Deadly" he would tear it out of the book and pass it on to the next guy in line. It sometimes got frustrating trying to find the next page. Military personnel have always been voracious readers.
God Bless our servicemembers and bring them home soon.

"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag." ~Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, Sergeant, USMC

May the Lord watch over every one of you, keep you safe, and bring you home.

I have a nephew over there and we just received a letter from him dated Feb. 24th! From what he said we assume he's on the front lines and really roughing it.

Just so you know - takes about 3 weeks for them to receive packages so get'em together quickly and send. One item he LOVED receiving was SOCKS. I doubt if they get washed out much so new ones are a treat and the old ones can go in the fire. They also love getting pictures, so send them some of you and of anytown USA.

This is the first time since the Revolution that my family has not had a member in the US military so I have adopted all our sons and daughters in prayers.
#22 the gift of socks were so appreciated in the gulf war and an excellent idea.Grits of sand are so abrasive. We sent white for off duty with cushioned bottoms in addition to others.
A perfect filler for packages is popcorn
and our kids loved it .
Also boxes of powered gatoraide were consumed faster than we could mail them.
I was pleased this morning with all the gagging peace/ani -war Tv to hear Fox call the tune like it is---Pro Saddam indicating their and our disgust.

My son is in Afghanistan and I'm so proud of the way he has chosen to enjoy himself there. He loves the little Afghani children and thinks they are just beautiful. His group went to a village out in the boondocks where there were only mud huts. They weren't sure if anybody still lived there because nobody was around. After they started setting up for their mission, whatever it was, the people started coming out of the huts, especially the little kids. They would squat and watch the soldiers. After a while, 3 little girls were giggling and my son asked the interpreter what it was about. He said they thought my son was a handsome foreigner!! He played with the little kids for a while before they left the village. I don't know about you, but this makes me feel good.

Just got an email from my son. He said something that made me cry as soon as I read it. He said "I think it would be nice to hear more about those who have some common sense and are in favor of deposing Saddam, we don't ever hear of anything but Vietnam-style protests back home, and that starts damaging soldier morale out here. I've had to comfort my guys on several occasions when they've asked if they're going to be spit on and harassed like soldiers were back in the '70's, and I tell them that no, our countrymen don't hate us, they just hate the politicians who make the decisions to send us places. Hope this all kicks off soon, the whole world will be a safer place when Saddam is out of the picture." Our guys need to know we're behind them, the sooner, the better.

From the mail:

More than 200,000 U.S. troops are currently deployed in the Persian Gulf region. Here are some sites that help you support those overseas. Whether you are for or against the war in Iraq, support the men and women of the armed forces.

WHAT CAN I DO?
Due to protective measures, the "To Any Service Member" letter writing program has been cancelled. Thanks to the Internet you can still reach out to service members.

Dial a prayer
Adopt a member of the armed services and pray for him/her. You can also register someone you know for prayer.

Defend America
Sign a virtual thank you card at the Defend America Web site. More than 6 million have already signed the card!

Reserve the best
Post your own personal message to Army Reservists at this message board. Boost morale with some kind and supportive words.

Dear Abby
Join Operation Dear Abby and write an e-mail to military personnel overseas. Specify the military branch of the person you want to receive your message.

VOLUNTEER!
Volunteering does two great things. It helps other people and makes you feel good about yourself.

A giving operation
Operation Interdependence is a civilian-to-military delivery program. It provides care packages and letters to deployed troops.

Fly like an eagle
Support Our American Recruits (SOAR) helps educate children about patriotism. It also provides care packages and letters to military personnel overseas.

Inverted Swiss flag
The American Red Cross was founded to serve America in peace and war. There has never been a better time to volunteer.

Caprine, that is one TERRIFIC Picture - I wish I knew how to move it around. I'd like to send it to John Conyers and Charlie Rangell and all the other fools who say that young black men are being sacrificed for America. I think the black men and women who serve with honor will agree that it's a sad and DISHONORABLE misrepresentation of ALL of our troops.

We appreciate and support ALL of our service men and women, from every walk of life, every economic background, every ethnic, religious and social background, every region of this country. God Bless and Keep the ALL and let them come home safely to a country that WELCOMES THEM WITH HEROS PARADES!!!!

I'm going to have to print this whole thread by tomorrow and send off little notes to all these addresses. What a GREAT idea, Ms Luci and Amy (and Igor).

Reply 37 - Posted by: Caprine, 3/15/2003 5:00:51 PM

Thank you Ms. Lucianne, Ms. Amy, Igor and all that have prepared this Roundtable. The site addresses and support suggestions offered here by so many wonderful people are so welcome and priceless. For those of us who wanted so much to do something but didn't know quite where to start, you have allowed us to efficiently consolidate our efforts. Our service people will know even more how very much they are lovingly and prayerfully cherished because of your thoughtful and generous inclusion of this Roundtable. Thank you, again, Lucianne, staff, posters and everyone.

Reply 39 - Posted by: Doris2, 3/15/2003 5:16:06 PM

We pray for you young men and women every day for courage and patience while the politicians keep stalling and making the world angrier and angrier each day.

Because we live in a military area represented by all branches, we are mindful of your service and the great sacrifice you and your families are making to preserve our freedoms and keep America strong.

God speed and may the angels guide your paths when the winds of war become reality.
Thinking of you each and every day and we continue to pray for victory...

There is a miracle to prayed for in God's Will to see that not one serviceman would be killed freeing the people of Iraq. It is not too much to ask Him to do that which is in his power. It is not a selfish prayer to pray for this in His power, honor and glory.

Can we lock them up or cut their communications?

I pray that our troops will learn that our nation is behind them. I am thankful that 71% of those surveyed support our troops and President Bush. I am very proud of our young men and women who made the choice to support and defend their country and I support them 100%. I appreciate all the addresses posted on this site and plan to make contacts to offer my personal support to those who may not have many family members back home. Being in Germany 26 months has enabled me to know from firsthand experience how one can miss the home and homeland. Let us all pray for our troops who are protecting the world from perhaps the most evil dictator ever to exist.

Hi all Ldotters and ol’ friends…….

Haven’t been able to post until tonight – wahoo! Just received this today. It’s an important letter from a son in Kuwait to his California mother. She wrote him, asking how he would feel if she joined other relatives of service members in an anti-war demonstration in Hollywood last month. After reading her son's response, she elected not to participate.

You can read Navy Corpsman Lonnie J. Lewis' full letter, reprinted on Saturday in the Las Vegas Review Journal, but here it is:

Dear Mom,
It's really your decision to march if you want to or not. You are the one who has to decide if what we are doing out here is right or not. My opinion is not yours.

I do, however, have things I would like for you and Grandma and everyone else at home to know. I am a United States soldier. I was sworn to defend my country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. People may not agree with the things we are ordered to do. (to be cont’d, due to Word Count)

I pray the 91st Psalm every day, for our troops and for our President. I ask that others do also.

I would like to address those people by telling them terrorism is not only a threat to us as Americans, but…. to many other innocent people in the world. What type of country would we be if we didn't defend the rights and freedoms of others, not because they're Americans, but how about just because they're human?

We live in a country where people feel secure with their daily lives. They do business like usual and don't worry about
the thought of terrorism actually happening to them. The people of 9-11 thought the same thing. We now know it can happen to anyone at any time. Yet as Americans we're afraid of losing our soldiers to defend our security. I can only speak for myself when I say that my life is an easy expense to ensure
that my family and friends can live in peace.
I strongly believe in what we are doing and wish you were here to see for yourselves the honor and privilege that American soldiers aboard this ship are feeling, knowing that we are going to be a part of something so
strong and so meaningful to the safety of our loved ones. (to be cont'd)

(cont’d) Then you would know what this potential war is about. We will stand tall in front of terrorism and defeat it. We, as soldiers, are not afraid of what may happen. We are only afraid of Americans not being able to understand why we are here. I ask for your courage as Americans to be strong for us; I ask for your understanding in what we believe is right. I ask for your support in what we are sworn to do: defend our country and the life of all. We will succeed in our task and will end the threat of terrorism in our back yard. We will also end the threat of terrorism in our neighbors'. We have to remind ourselves of what this country stands for: life, liberty and justice for all. In order to maintain those rights we have to stop the threat of terrorism. I am proud to be here. I will be coming home, but not until I know that it's going to be safe for all Americans and for everyone I love. My family is first. My country is where they live. I will defend it. (to be cont’d to end)

Amy, Igor, don't know if you got this one:

Emails to any service branch. Tell 'em how proud we are of them! I know I did.

Caprine...what a post! -- one of my church walking buddies was a B-17 waist gunner - he flew 30 missions over Germany -- got shot up -- radio operator died in his arms -- somehow made it home -- I read mil hist to my sons every night and we pray for our men and women in uniform and for our leaders every night -- my six year old never forgets.
God Bless our troops!

P.S. Mom, please send this to everyone who has a hard time understanding why we are here. Ask the paper to put what I've said in a column so that others will know why we are here and what we are here for. I love you all and will be home soon. I left my address so that if anyone feels like writing to let me know how they feel, they can.

Back to me -- it’s great to be among a lot of familiar, or should I say "Ldot family” friends online. I’ve missed you! Thanx Amy for getting me up and running! Blessings to all -- prayers have been and will be continuous for our leaders, our troops, and our country! G’nite all.

I AM THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. MY NAME IS OLD GLORY. I FLY ATOP THE WORLDS TALLEST BUILDINGS, -- I STAND WATCH IN ANERICA’S HALL OF JUSTICE. I FLY MAJESTICALLY OVER GREAT INSTITUATIONS OF LEARNING. I STAND GUARD WITH THE GREATEST MILITARY POWER IN THE WORLD. LOOK UP – AND SEE ME.

I STAND FORE PEACE, HONOR, AND JUSTICE. I STAND FOR FREEDOM. I AM CONFIDENT. I AM ARROGANT. I AM PROUD. WHEN I AM FLOWN WITH MY FELLOW BANNERS, MY HEAD IS A LITTLE HIGHER, MY COLORS A LITTLE TRUER !
I BOW TO NO ONE!!

An unbelievably evil little "free speech for me, but none for thee" Lefitst Nazi has taken over the the Dixie Chicks petition and started multiple-posting the most base and ugly anti-American things.

Any suggestions?

This is exactly the kind of Nazi/Soviet retribution we Real Americans can expect if a PIAPS or other UN-first Tyrant ever gets sufficient control.

It's very disheartening.

I HAVE BEEN SOILED, BURNED, TORN, AND TRAMPLED ON THE STREETS OF COUNTRIES THAT I HAVE HELPED SET FREE. IT DOES NOT HURT, FOR I AM INVINCIBLE!! I HAVE BEEN SOILED BURNED, TORN AND TRAMPLED ON THYE STREETS OF MY OWN COUNTRY – AND IT IS BY THOSE WHOM I HAVE SERVED IN BATTLE WITH – IT HURTS!!

BUT I SHALL OVER COME – FOR I AM STRONG! I HAVE SLIPPED THE BONDS OF EARTH AND FROM MY VANTAGE POINT ON THE MOON; I STAND WATCH OVER THE UNCHARTED NEW FRONTIERS OF SPACE.

I HAVE BEEN A SILENT WITNESS TO ALL OF AMERICA’S FINEST HOURS. BUT, MY FINEST HOUR COMES WHEN I AM TORN IN STRIPS TO BE USED AS BANDAGES FOR MY WOUNDED CONRADES ON THE MBATTLE FIELD. WHEN I FLY AT HALF-MAST TO HONOR MY SOLDIERS, MY SAILORS, MY AIRMEN, MY MARINES, AND – WHEN I LAY IN THE TREMBLING ARMS OF A GRIEVING MOTHER AT THE GRAVESIDE OF HER FALLEN SON OR DAUGTHER, I AM PROUD.

MY NAME IS “OLD GLORY” – LONG MAY I WAVE, DEAR GOD, LONG MAY I WAVE.

We will carry her forward with great pride.

Geez guys, I'm cried out with all these posts. I hope W pulls the trigger and gets this thing over with. I have a nephew and several kids my daughter grew up with that are like sons over there. They are tired of sitting and want to go to Bagdad or come home. I want them to got to Bagdad and come home. GW probably is doing the right thing considering the political aftermath in waiting and playing the diplomatical path(he has to hate doing this),he wins. God bless you all and our Troops and our President.

Ft. Bragg North Carolina and various other personel live on FoxNews from Afganistan right now!

Not a big Heraldo fan, but he's been giving our wonderful troops MAJOR airtime and I give him a lot of credit for that.

I love what Fox is doing ...showing our great military

Reply 74 - Posted by: SayHey2u, 3/15/2003 10:41:04 PM

I love that, too, Seabee. Thanks for posting it.

I'm watching the same show, Amereagle. It sure personalizes everything we've been talking about on this thread. What a thrill it must be for the lucky families who get to see their loved on on TV. Between that and email, this is certainly a different war experience for the military and their families.

As for Geraldo, I was one of those who was disgusted when Fox hired him, but I have to admit he's grown on me. He's dramatic and egotistical and all that, but he's not all bad.

Nestle makes a teriffic choc chip cookie, individually wrapped. I have bought them at Sam's, and there are a lot in the box. Almost like home made. There are too few Girl Scout cookies in a box for my liking.

I'M WALKING ON AIR!!!!!

I just got my "name" from Operation Military Support.

He's Lance Corporal Edwin A. Gamez, USMC (Gamez is a new one on me. I hope it's not Gomez - but Gamez is what it says on the e-mail).

(Yes, Karla. I'm that LoneStarDaughter. I see my reputation as a loudmouth precedes me.)

I went to Target today and got about $20.00 worth of the little sample bottles of stuff - powder, shampoo, hand cleaner, etc. (yesterday was payday). I thought I'd pack the stuff into zip lock bags (with extra zip lock bags enclosed) and send it to:

363 EACCS/JSTARS
Unit 70495/Box 95
APO AE 09882

which is the address Amy posted earlier.

Do y'all think that's okay? I thought the little sample bottles of stuff would be easier for troops to travel with than large bottles.

I'm so excited, I can't hardly stand myself. I feel as good about this as I did when I sent one-dollar bills to the President for the children of Afghanistan.

LoneStarDaughter.....I just read elsewhere that sample sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. are great to include in your care package... My husband and I travel a bit and from the first day I get to the hotel I stash all the samples....so each day I get more. I save them up for 6 months or a year (depends on how many trips I've had) and then take them to the local shelter.....Now I will send them in a care package to the troops.....

I, to am excited, and I haven't even gotten my adoptee's name yet..

I can't imagine how many care packages it would take to equal what one service man or woman is willing to give for all Americans.
God Bless Them All.

TO Anyone: On the lists of needed items to send to the troops I have seen postage. Do our troops have to put postage on their letters????? On the envelope of the letters my husband sent me from Vietnam he wrote, FREE, in the space where the stamp would be......Do you mean to tell me that that is no longer a privilige????

Reply 83 - Posted by: StephaniePlum, 3/16/2003 12:00:21 AM

LoneStarDaughter -- That was me (Karla) who sent you your Marine name. I'm involved with the grassroots organization you mentioned, sending out names from the requests we get. We are totally overwhelmed, happily so.
Our efforts have mushroomed beyond all expectations. One of my friends decided that we should set up a program to correspond with troops who don't receive mail. She had military contacts who sent her names, we passed them around to friends and local organizations. Then someone donated a website and we started getting requests. Then the local media had us on their TV news. So far we've matched up 1550 troops with letter writers and we just received another 1100 names from our military contact. We are several days behind in answering requests but are hoping that a contact we made will set up an automated reply system. LoneStarDaughter, I spotted your name when I opened the mailbox this morning and responded immediately. Then I checked into Lucianne and saw the discussion going on ... Glad you found us and we found you. Thanks for the support.

I have a question: if we send packages of socks, books, soap, etc...aren't things being checked for terrorism? How do we get this stuff to them?

Reply 85 - Posted by: StephaniePlum, 3/16/2003 12:06:52 AM

LuLu - Mail coming from the troops does not require postage ... FREE is written in place of a stamp.

Allegra - The packages are going through. You fill out a Customs form at the Post Office when mailing a package, for whatever that's worth, but yes, the packages are definitely being delivered. I've received letters from both of the Navy Medics I am personally corresponding with, thanking me for their goodie packages ... heck, I'm baking cookies and writing letters, they're deployed to Kuwait .. who should be thanking who here?

Thanks Stephanie -

Islandlady - thank you for that letter from Lonnie - I am sending it to everyone I know, and I sent it to Rush, too.

Folks, I hate to give you something ugly to look at but this is ANSWER crapola from today's demonstration. Sadly, these are NOT retouched photos.

This is fun. You guys are getting me excited about putting my box together tomorrow. I think I'll just send it to one of the addresses above and they can pass it on to whoever needs one. Keep the ideas coming on what they'd need.

I wish I could send a pillow. I saw one poor guy using his gear as a pillow. Ouch! I guess I'd never make it over there. LOL I sure appreciate those who can.
