Editor's Extra: For the latest virus and security alerts direct from Symantec Security Response click here.LDotter Note: Again, we have to jump on posters about language. There are a lot of stories in the news about things we used to not talk about in public. We can't help that but this site was not built to add to the coarseness of the times. Sexual, scatological posts, posts that advocate death and dismemberment and posts that use offensive language will be deleted. The next time a poster gets lazy about their vocabulary, they will be banned. If you can't express yourself any other way go to dictionary.com and do a little work. There are chat rooms on the web where you can talk as dirty as you like. We are not one of them.

QUICK NEWS:

Intern Update: Our summer interns, while hardly the sheltered progeny of privilege, have voiced concern over some of the tasteless replies they have had to delete. As free speech advocates, this is a sometimes painful exercise. We know it is difficult in this a summer of sodomy news, Ann Coulter and Hillary on the hustings, jocks, both talk and sports behaving badly and general unrest in the world to maintain a comfortable level of civility but let's try a little harder. Don't type dirty and try not to suggest killing people. After all, it's for the children.
Igor is in charge of putting them through their paces. They are a tough minded crew and we warn you that they have no patience with headlines written in all caps, stories posted without the proper link or comments that are either too blue for the board or advocate killing this and that one on the public scene. Now you know, so don't get your feelings hurt if you get zapped for some reason. It's just pay back from youngsters who have been enduring liberal professors all winter.
URGENT Ldotter Alert: If you have a Yahoo!.com email address and are wondering why we have not answered you - Yahoo! addressed emails are being returned to us as undeliverable. AOL users: Make sure your email address will accept our response - those rejection replies from Daemon@aol are rough on Igor.
Tin Cup Time: War is expensive and our bandwidth bills are coming in. Our traffic nearly doubled in the last month and our advertising, sadly, did not keep pace. We considered sending Igor out onto Broadway with a cup but out of work dot-commers had already claimed the begging rights for several blocks. We'd appreciate any contributions not only so we can keep our cutthroat server happy but keep your site here purring. The little credit card icon at the very top left of the page does the trick, or for the click-challenged the snail-mail address is listed as well.
9june2003-edHousekeeping Note: Those Ldotters who are clever enough to know how to post photos on threads would do us a great favor it you would simply post the link and not the picture itself unless, of course, it is one of your own. It has to do with other sites complaining about use of their pictures and our bookkeeper complaining about the size of our bandwidth bills. Thanks.
No if's and's or *$()#@()#!!!'s:
We remind you that using symbols to get around the 'dirty-word-filter' is not acceptable. We see a growing number of these being used and we will be revoking the posting privileges of those who continue to 'swear by them'.
Updated 02 MAY 03 - ed.Registration update: Due to an outbreak of spam and virus infected our address has been modified to Registration3@LComHQ.com.

-From the mail: 25 March 2003 -edFrom the suggestion box: You know what would be great for this site? A small area where we "members" could go to see the definitions of terms used regularly (or less-than-regularly), such as "PIAPS", et al.... Anyway, I hope you get the idea. It would be useful and kinda' fun, to boot.....
Email us with your cool words or the ones you want defined to: Ideas@lcomhq.com and we'll put them together with your help and your ideas!18 March 2003-ed.
We couldn't agree more: There has been lately an increase in the number of, uh, visiors posting grotesquely crude and insulting sexual comments. They don't necessarily include George Carlin's famous list of forbidden words, but the effect is probably even more damaging to the site.-Ldotter 'MAB2' 9March2003
Reviewing the mail:
Subject: Word Count Limitation
Dear Webmaster,
I am trying to post a reply on one of the threads and I keep getting a message that says my post is too long and exceeds word count (or something to that effect). I have edited it down, I think the original post was around 300 words and the new one is around 200, but it still says I am exceeding the posting limitation. I went to the rules and re-read them and cannot find any word count limits. . .so, I was wondering if you could help me out on this as Ive been posting on this site for quite sometime now and have never received this message. This is the result of recent changes made to our posting software in response to the growing number of posts that included copyrighted text in excess of the terms permitted under US Copyright Law. If your reply exceeds the limit of approximately 200 words, your post will not go thru until your post is shortened.
Updated 14 March 2003-ed.

Recent news:LDotter Note: The enormous success of our Lucianne.com T's and sweatshirts (Christmas didn't hurt) has emboldened our troops at GOPGuys to design probably the coolest caps we've seen. The white one has the flag under the brim - a touch we particularly liked. The other one is Reagan blue and a stunner. Click on the big fat t-shirt at the top of the site and have a look. You will also see that our new mugs are on the way as well.
Post edited, closed or deleted? We recommend that you quickly review the rules and guidelines outlined below before you post or if you're wondering why your post may have been closed or deleted from the board. During peak site traffic times, we will be unable to post a note on each thread explaining why your post was closed. edited or removed. And in order to balance the server load, many postings will be deleted immediately when they have been improperly posted or in the case of an immediate duplicate or in the rare instance two posts overlap with the same thread number simultaneously. We feel that you should be aware of these things in advance - LComStaff may not have the time to answer your emails immediately.
Special posting requests: In the case of special requests regarding original postings, there will be no exceptions granted during heavy traffic times. We will however review these when time permits.
About Lucianne.com: Lucianne.com is a NEWS site. Please post news articles, columns and comment from legitimate on-line newspapers, magazines or news sites only.
Sources: A reminder that we do not accept postings from campus publications without prior written permission from The Editor or Lucianne . Articles posted from web-logs or 'blogs' are not permitted and will be closed and deleted without further explanation. We remind you also that editorial cartoons are not acceptable, nor are stand alone photographs. If you want to post from a source and are unsure of this 'legitimacy' thing, just write to us in advance and include the URL to your article in your email before you post. We'll let you know whether it is acceptable or not just as soon as we can. We can't emphasize enough how important it is to ask us first when in doubt.
The law and you: Please obey U.S. Copyright laws. Short quotes from copyrighted articles and web sites may be used in replies, but do not post entire copyrighted articles into replies. It is better to state your opinion in your own words. Any copyrighted material posted MUST link to the original source online. We would prefer that your original postings be NO MORE than 100 words in length (average is TEN lines or less). Not only will this satisfy the COPYRIGHT laws, it will allow your fellow posters to be able to load and view the front page in full. Tip: Posting the first paragraph of the article is the best way to make sure you're not going to be edited or your post closed and deleted.
Comments on comments: In your original posting there is a comments section. This is for your comments and not additional copyrighted text. This is also the place for **barf alerts** and the like. If you alter the headline with comments, you run the risk of having your thread closed immediately and deleted as well. Your LComStaff doesn't always have the time and patience to edit out your comments in the headlines nor to explain why they did.
Day-old-posts: Stale? Please check the date of the article you plan to post. If it was published earlier than the last 24 hour news cycle it will be closed and deleted. Since we prefer articles no older than one day unless an older article would serve as vital background or inform a current posted article, you may write and ask us to approve an exception to this rule in advance of your posting. Again, if in doubt, just write in and ask us first. Otherwise, your post will be deleted without further explanation.
Search to be sure: We have a search function icon at the top and the bottom of most all our pages. When posting, particularly later in the day , (our night time posters grab news with the speed of striking snakes) please type the by line (the LAST name of the writer) of the article you want to post into the search space. That way you won't duplicate the efforts of others, cause the staff to take the time and effort to delete your work and keep us from getting cranky.
About posting from FrontPageMagazine.com: Our site policy limits those postings to THREE per day. That quota is usually reached shortly after midnight. Use our 'search' feature and type in the word 'Front' if you are unsure if the limit has been met for the day - otherwise your post will be deleted by staff.
Screaming for attention: Please do not post headlines in capital letters no matter how they appear in the original article. Any such headlines will be deleted. You may repost correctly. Why? you may ask. Because it becomes an editorial comment and sets a capitalized post off as more important than others. Part of our little tip o' the hat to democracy.
Posting from Drudge: A word on posting hot stuff that pops-up on the Drudge Report before it has a link to a news site. Don't. That's the word. We love Drudge. Drudge is hot. Drudge is fabulous, a friend and a fox but think 'link' to post on our site. One always pops up sooner or later so be patient.
The Salon vs. Saloon: These rules are not difficult to adhere to and help keep Lucianne.com an exciting place to visit. The reality of this site is that you who register, post and COMMENT here are THIS SITE'S reporters and editors. It is your site and up to you to keep it a civilized place to visit and learn what is happening up-to-the minute in our world.
