America's Chaotic Road to War
The Washington Post, by Dan Balz and Bob Woodward

Original Article

Tuesday, September 11 Shortly after 9:30 p.m., President Bush brought together his most senior national security advisers in a bunker beneath the White House grounds. It was just 13 hours after the deadliest attack on the U.S. homeland in the country's history. Bush and his advisers sat around a long table in the conference room of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, or PEOC. Spare and cramped, the bunker was built to withstand a nuclear attack, with sleeping berths and enough food for a few people to survive for several days. "This is the time for self-defense," he told his aides, according to National Security Council notes....

"Rumsfeld warned that an effective response would require a wider war, one that went far beyond the use of military force. The United States, he said, must employ every tool available-military, legal, financial, diplomatic, intelligence.

The president was enthusiastic. But Tenet offered a sobering thought. Although al Qaeda's home base was Afghanistan, the terrorist organization operated nearly worldwide, he said. The CIA had been working the bin Laden problem for years. We have a 60-country problem, he told the group.

"Let's pick them off one at a time," Bush replied."

YES!!! I *like* how this man thinks!!!

Actually, I find it absolutely amazing how fast a sense of order was restored. Once again, we can thank President Bush for his forsight in choosing Richard Cheney as his running mate, and putting the best cabinet together in - perhaps - the history of the country.

Very well written piece, brings back all the
memories. We need to keep this in front of
the American people. We must never forget.

Shows that President Bush can think for himself, and that he has excellent instincts for the correct thing. I thank God we have him as President during this time.

Great article. I love President Bush. I trust him and feel safe with him in charge.

I've just copied it, and will settle down for a long read. Let's see if the Postum alludes to what that smegma-brain Richard Cohen did, that Bush's whereabouts were a "lie". (re: his tripe called "War Behind Schedule" from 11-06-01).

There's an excellent photo gallery link (Flash) in the upper right corner of the page. High bandwidth though.

. . . Let's not forget Marty Meehan, who said that talk of Bush as a target during these chaotic hours "just spin."

He is an un-American partisan hack who needs to be shamed out of public office.

Al Gore would have handed over New Jersey and Michigan by now.

Bless our President.

From the article:

"Bush also said, "Terrorism against our nation will not stand." It was an echo of "This will not stand," the words his father, President George H.W. Bush, had used a few days after Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990-in Bush's opinion, one of his father's finest moments.

"Why I came up with those specific words, maybe it was an echo from the past," Bush said in an interview last month. "I don't know why. . . . I'll tell you this, we didn't sit around massaging the words. I got up there and just spoke." "

No focus groups. No spin. Just what needed to be said when it needed to be said. We are a lucky nation.

Now THAT is a report the Washington Post can be proud of. No political posturing just straight facts - No conversations with people in comas - No "I think this is what he would have said" garbage.

Bravo!

Don't know about any of you but I personally do not trust Bob Woodward of Watergate fame. He is a confirmed liberal and I ever see limited honesty in his writing. After watching him on Larry King many times, I dislike his attitude and see a man who seeks to snare, Sneer at and destroy conservatives any chance he gets. His ulterior motive is ever real. He knows his liberal view will not sell at this time for the polls favor President Bush and he wants good press. Weigh his words and check his motives, that's all I have to say. He definitely is not for us, so where does that place him?

Many libs/Dems say they support President Bush on the war.....how good of them, since his polls are close to 90%. That's a given. But, on everything else, well, check the polls on that too. The Dems/Libs have no place to hide and even one of their own has a best seller - BIAS - the plane reading for our leader (President Bush), revealing who supports him and who is out to cut his throat at any given opportunity. Good for President Bush to display that in a simple way (without words)as he walked to his helicopter. Bet the liberal photographers hated that picture for the country and world to see. Bipartisanship at work - reading the enemy's manifesto, and knowing the country agrees and gives President Bush the greatest support in history. This could make a believer out of the Libs/Dems. Welcome folks, the water is fine. Try it and you just might like it. Compassionate conservatism is caring for all and in the loving, comes discipline - that means evil is punished, here and abroad.

GOD is blessing America - daily through our beloved President Bush and his wonderful wife, Laura. May they continue to enjoy the gratitude of a country they love and who loves them. That is something difficult to swallow for our liberal friends, as President Bush would call them, for he wants to be friends - on his terms!!!!!

Clintonism is gone and Bushism is American, speaking honestly and enjoying life. What a contrast to Clinton when he didn't even know what is is. We are finally free at last!!!! BIG TIME!!

Thanks, Lucianne, for the heads up. Have printed it. Gotta grab another cup of coffee before settling down to read. Because it is uncommon, it is refreshing when a reporter really reports. Woodward can do it when he wants to.
