Overkill? Two juvenile, potty-mouthed "Shock Jocks" you probably never heard of until now have lost their lucrative radio gig and their station is facing a license lift. All this is because they staged a tasteless sex stunt in New York's St. Pat's Cathedral. Seems like over reaction to us, all things considered, or maybe the Age of Irony is dead after all.
Perp or No Perp: One of the odder stories on the site this morning is this tale of Bryant Gumbel's son not being a purse snatcher. It leaves several questions unanswered and with Johnny Cochran in the mix they may stay that way.
Mind Control? A subtle kind of censorship seems to be in play as television gears up to remember Sept. 11th. Most networks say they won't show footage of the actual "hit" on the twin towers. We feel they should have shown those ghastly pictures at every station break for the last year. There is no better reminder of what was done to us. Now, even the Fearless-and-Unafraid Fox is wimping out.
Ashcroft's Albatross: By far the most important (and we suspect deliberately confusing) story of the day so far is the court ruling in this piece. If you keep reading you'll find this paragraph buried many graphs down. "Justice Department officials noted that the criticism of the department in the opinion referred mostly to actions by the department and the F.B.I. in the Clinton administration." It certainly would have had a different thrust had this paragraph been in the lead where it belongs.
LDotter Note: Just a reminder to take your password home with you for the weekend. We get e-mail from many who don't and want to participate in our Weekend Roundtable. On weekends our no chat rule is relaxed and you are free to "talk" your hearts out to other Ldotters.
A word on posting hot stuff that pops-up on the Drudge Report before it has a link to a news site. Don't. That's the word. We love Drudge. Drudge is hot. Drudge is fabulous, a friend and a fox but think 'link' to post on our site. One always pops up sooner or later so be patient.
