Quote of the day:

"Our policy is simple: We are not going to betray our friends, reward the enemies of freedom, or permit fear and retreat to become American policies. ... None of the four wars in my lifetime came about because we were too strong. It is weakness ... that invites adventurous adversaries to make mistaken judgments."

-Former President Ronald Reagan

Bush to Saddam and Sons - Get out of Dodge.

Short Cuts

The Plan: For you tabletop soldiers, Amir Taheri, writing in this morning's New York Post, lays out Saddam's plan for war. It's a fascinating piece and shows how much depends on Turkey finally getting over what's been bugging them. Their on-again, off-again maneuvering has been the longest tease since Geraldine Ferraro said she would explain her tax returns.

Under Reported: Lost in the administration's dizzying, headlong eighteen month rush to war is who is really with us and who is not and how the clatter and spin thrown up by the Frogs has nearly drowned out the facts. For a quick, concise and truly eye opening head count check out Andrew Sullivan. (He still insists his site is readable but provides a way to click it to white. Why doesn't he just leave it there? Go know. We suppose it's his artistic soul.)

Spelling It Out: Bently Elliot, a former Reagan speechwriter has a brief essay in the Washington Times today that one might want to print out and paste on the bathroom mirror. It cuts thru all the frustration and ill-will adrift in the land of late and sets things straight about how we should be feeling.

Today's Ka-Ching Thing: It's been a truism in politics long before Watergate - if you want to get a grip on what's behind what you see and hear - follow the money. Here Fox News does the math behind the "huge" antiwar demonstrations and who is paying for them. You've read it before but it's good to have it all in one place.

Doing The Math: Less than 48 hours left...that would bring us to Wednesday night at 8 for the war to start. Everyone knows Saddam isn't leaving ( how inspired of W to mention the "boys" who are, if possible, more hideously insane than their father). That gives us all plenty of time to pray - pray for our men and women in harm's way. Pray for our President, our extraordinary country and our strength or mind, heart and faith. God bless America. God bless George W. Bush.

Ask yourself before posting "Is this really news?" Cats caught in trees, celebrity blather and any article involving sheep or Martin Sheen, short of an obit, will not be news for a while.
