One of the ironies of the 21st century is that many people are too poor to be Woke. Some would if they could afford it. With nearly 85% of voters registered Democratic, San Francisco is arguably one of the bluest cities in America. But only a few people can afford to live there. "The California Association of Realtors (CAR) released its most recent Housing Affordability Index this week and estimated that only 12 percent of San Francisco households could afford a median-priced single family home in the city at the end of 2017, the worst rating in the state." A $2,200/mo room sounds pretty funny to me - funny that anyone would even consider it. In the mid fifties, for a time while paying my own way thru college on a dollar an hour job, I paid $4/week for room as described - bed, bedside table and a couple dresser drawers and bath down the hall. After a year, I upgraded to a $5/week room that was nicer, but no other amenities. That would translate to $200-$300/month now with inflation. This was in Pittsburgh. BTW, though I have no idea what the unemployment rate was then, I never had trouble finding a job for the summer & worked in a drugstore during the school year. The longest I went without a job was about 2 weeks, by choice, when my brother & I decided to drive up to Lake Erie for a cheap, sleep in the car, vacation. ;-) The idea of having to pay ten times the inflation adjusted rate now sounds ridiculous. Why don´t they move to Texas, take a cut in pay and keep the change (left over income from grossly less expense).

The insane costs for a space to live in Cali are driven directly by their extreme eco-freako land use policies which prevent and massively increase the cost of building new homes. Thomas Sowell has written about this destructive phenomenon.

The biggest problem I see with this situation mentioned in the story is the great number of people moving out of SanFran - and no doubt spreading their literally insane views like the Black Death across the country.
Having destroyed their own living area with their foolish, unworkable, antihuman communist views, they seek a place which doesn´t have all the problems which are caused by what they vote for.
Stay the hell home, enjoy the fruits of your social and political views. Don´t bring your insanity here.

Good grief! San Francisco is not California. It has been an “other” place. For most Californians it was a place to visit or to attend a business meeting.

There is the Real World and there is San Francisco. Paradoxically, that is part of its allure for those poor souls living in pricey rooming houses.

in the mid 80´s we rented an apt on Corbett St, in Twin Peaks. Rent was $650/mo and it was high for the time. But we had a view from one bridge to the other, Safeway and a good Chinese restaurant down the hill. That was when SF was fun.

I´m really happy we had the opportunity to live in the city when we did. We didn´t have to share the place, had our own bathroom and parking under the building. Middle class luxury by today´s standards!!

A fentanyl death. A crackdown

TAMPA — Loueita Hargens had known for years how her son Bradley Dykes would die. She had seen him cycle through drugs of choice, had lost track of the number of times he’d wound up in the hospital or prison. A recovering alcoholic herself, she cut him off several years ago. "If you want to talk, you can find me at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting," the mother told her son. It finally happened in November: Dykes fatally overdosed on the synthetic opioid fentanyl. He was 46. Hargens was grief stricken but not shocked, and months later, another emotion has joined the mix. She hopes the federal prosecution of her

A massive python killed a woman in Indonesia, the second time in just over a year one of the giant constrictors swallowed a human in adjacent provinces in that country. The woman, 54-year-old Wa Tiba, went missing while checking her vegetable garden near her village on Muna island in Southeast Sulawesi province on Thursday evening, said the chief of the village of Persiapan Lawela, Faris, who uses a single name. Wa Tiba was concerned about wild boars getting into her corn, planted about a half-mile from her house. When she hadn’t returned by sunrise Friday, her sister went to look for her. She found only Tiba’s footprints,

Shinnecock Hills responded with a vengeance on Saturday in the third round of the 2018 U.S. Open. Dustin Johnson had pushed the lead all the way to 4-under par heading into the weekend, but as we head into Sunday´s final round, he´s in a four-way tie atop the leaderboard after going 7 over. The cut was at 8-over par, but after a day where the average score was between 75-76, 8-over par is now good enough for T-16 on the leaderboard. This course was a fickle beast all day with many golfers criticizing the way it is playing even compared

Comments of Missouri’s New Governor

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson — who replaced former Gov. Eric Greitens June 1 — declined to apologize, but he did attempt to clarify his position on LGBT rights this week. While serving as lieutenant governor, Parson told the Midwest Baptist publication Word & Way last year that while he didn’t believe Missourians who were gay or transgender should face job discrimination. “Do I think that you should go out there and fire them for that? I don’t,” Parson said. But, because he is a Christian — and this is what Missouri Democrats pounced on — Parson also said, “I’m old school. I know

Dipping into the Department of Justice Inspector General report released yesterday, we are inundated with information and interesting story lines. One such story line involves Bill Clinton’s response to the uproar created over his tarmac meeting with then Attorney General Loretta Lynch the Monday before Hillary Clinton’s scheduled weekend interview with the FBI in the email “investigation,” as we should probably refer to it. The uproar led to FBI Director James Comey improperly inserting himself into the decision making role over the prosecution of Hillary Clinton. In the event, in his press conference of July 5, he let her off

A story of high tragedy is buried deep in the inspector general´s (IG) report published Thursday. Like Oedipus before him, FBI staffer Peter Strzok feared a terrible future and fought to prevent it. Ironically, his very efforts to stop Donald Trump from becoming president may have sealed that very fate. Lisa Page, Strzok´s co-worker and lover, breathlessly texted him, "[Trump´s] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!" To this, Strzok replied, "No. No he won´t. We´ll stop it." Page and Strzok have become notorious for the anti-Trump texts they sent to one another. The IG report cited these texts as

A roller coaster in Daytona Beach that derailed late Thursday, causing two people to fall about 34 feet and sending six to the hospital, had been inspected just hours before the malfunction. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said Friday was beginning an investigating of the accident. “Just yesterday, department inspectors conducted a thorough inspection of the ride, and it was found in compliance with state law,” spokeswoman Jennifer Meale said. “We have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, and anyone who should be held accountable will be held accountable.” In a statement, the Daytona Beach Fire

Janique Walker knows the cost of a split second. Her younger brother, 17-year-old Charles Macklin, was killed while trying to steal a Jeep from a Chicago fire lieutenant on the West Side last August. The lieutenant had left the Jeep running, and Macklin jumped behind the wheel. The lieutenant ran in front of the Jeep and shouted, “Get out,” according to a police report. When Macklin began pulling away, the lieutenant drew his gun and fired through the open driver’s side window, hitting the teen in the chest. Macklin’s last words were, “Sorry, bro,” according to the police report. The teen died on the pavement. He did not have a gun on

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says her life has become a round-the-clock nightmare due to the prospect of Democrats botching the midterm elections. A conversation with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow revealed the perpetual “terror” the Massachusetts lawmaker experiences as voters prepare to go to the polls in November. Mrs. Warren admitted her fears Thursday evening when confronted with a scenario in which Democrats fail to capture control of either chamber of Congress. “I really, really want us to do [succeed]. I’m going to work really, really hard to make that happen,” she said. “I run every day filled with terror that it won’t

The state of Illinois has approved $224 million to pay for street and transportation projects in Chicago´s South Side neighborhood around the Obama Presidential Center site, $199 million of which will fall directly on the shoulders of Illinois taxpayers. Gov. Bruce Rauner signed into law the legislature´s budget on June 4, which included $174 million for road work in and around Jackson Park — where the 235-foot-tall building would be located — and another $50 million to renovate an above-ground rail stop two miles away. “Bringing the Obama Presidential Center to Chicago took leadership and vision, and we are gratified that our

You wonder why Fox News is Number One in cable? It´s because CNN, MSNBC, NBC and the rest are so relentlessly negative about Donald Trump they force people to watch Fox to find out the truth about the growing economy or the historically low unemployment rates for blacks. Take this week´s Singapore Summit. No matter what President Trump accomplished in Singapore in his face-to-face meeting with North Korea´s Kim Jong Un, for Joe, Mika and their fellow foreign policy experts in the media, it was not enough. Or it was too much. Or Trump was naive or stupid. Or he gave away too much. Or he didn't ask "Little Rocket Man"

Christian leaders across the country have taken issue with Attorney General Jeff Session´s usage of the Bible as justification of his policy that is separating thousand of immigrant families at the border. Sessions cited Romans 13 to attempt to justify how separating families was ordained by God because ´orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves and protect the weak and lawful.´ For religious leaders who still weren´t pleased with his usage of scripture, he offered them to ´speak up strongly to urge anyone who would come here to apply lawfully, to wait their turn and not violate the law.´

Just in time for Father´s Day, CNN brings you the story of a biological female who refers to herself as a transgender man who, after taking testosterone to "transition," conceived a child with a man who was "transitioning" into a transgender woman but stopped taking hormones long enough that they could conceive a son. CNN titled the piece, "He gave birth. He breastfed. Now, he wants his son to see him as a man." (Tweet/Photo) The "he" in question is Sabastion Sparks, 24, "a transgender man who lives with his wife Angel in suburban Atlanta." CNN writes, "Like many new dads, Sabastion Sparks knew parenting would come

The White House called MSNBC´s Joe Scarborough´s comments comparing the actions of immigration law enforcement officers at US border crossings to those of Nazis ´appalling´ on Friday. Scarborough pointed out while hosting ´Morning Joe´ on Friday that federal agents at US borders have reportedly used tactics similar to those used by Nazi soldiers during World War II to separate Jewish families, in saying children are being taken to ´shower´ and never returning with them. ´This is the type of inflammatory and unacceptable rhetoric that puts a target on the backs of our great law enforcement,´ White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley
