One of the ironies of the 21st century is that many people are too poor to be Woke. Some would if they could afford it. With nearly 85% of voters registered Democratic, San Francisco is arguably one of the bluest cities in America. But only a few people can afford to live there. "The California Association of Realtors (CAR) released its most recent Housing Affordability Index this week and estimated that only 12 percent of San Francisco households could afford a median-priced single family home in the city at the end of 2017, the worst rating in the state." A $2,200/mo room sounds pretty funny to me - funny that anyone would even consider it. In the mid fifties, for a time while paying my own way thru college on a dollar an hour job, I paid $4/week for room as described - bed, bedside table and a couple dresser drawers and bath down the hall. After a year, I upgraded to a $5/week room that was nicer, but no other amenities. That would translate to $200-$300/month now with inflation. This was in Pittsburgh. BTW, though I have no idea what the unemployment rate was then, I never had trouble finding a job for the summer & worked in a drugstore during the school year. The longest I went without a job was about 2 weeks, by choice, when my brother & I decided to drive up to Lake Erie for a cheap, sleep in the car, vacation. ;-) The idea of having to pay ten times the inflation adjusted rate now sounds ridiculous. Why don´t they move to Texas, take a cut in pay and keep the change (left over income from grossly less expense).

The insane costs for a space to live in Cali are driven directly by their extreme eco-freako land use policies which prevent and massively increase the cost of building new homes. Thomas Sowell has written about this destructive phenomenon.

The biggest problem I see with this situation mentioned in the story is the great number of people moving out of SanFran - and no doubt spreading their literally insane views like the Black Death across the country.
Having destroyed their own living area with their foolish, unworkable, antihuman communist views, they seek a place which doesn´t have all the problems which are caused by what they vote for.
Stay the hell home, enjoy the fruits of your social and political views. Don´t bring your insanity here.

Good grief! San Francisco is not California. It has been an “other” place. For most Californians it was a place to visit or to attend a business meeting.

There is the Real World and there is San Francisco. Paradoxically, that is part of its allure for those poor souls living in pricey rooming houses.

in the mid 80´s we rented an apt on Corbett St, in Twin Peaks. Rent was $650/mo and it was high for the time. But we had a view from one bridge to the other, Safeway and a good Chinese restaurant down the hill. That was when SF was fun.

I´m really happy we had the opportunity to live in the city when we did. We didn´t have to share the place, had our own bathroom and parking under the building. Middle class luxury by today´s standards!!

Here is what happens when people on both sides of the gun conversation in America are able to be heard. The producers of this video had a variety of actors cold read statistical truths about guns and crime in the United States. Much of this is known to pro-Second Amendment advocates but not to the general public. It is difficult to have a fact-based conversation when the largely uninformed anti-gun left is running around screaming "ASSAULT WEAPONS" all of the time and the media is always there to amplify their panic. One of the younger actors admits that he just

I first made that observation–you can vote for conservatism, but you can’t get it–quite a few years ago. Sadly, it remains true, as exemplified by the $1.3 trillion spending monstrosity that President Trump signed today. How bad is the bill? Rand Paul tweeted in real time as he read the bill–or as much of it as he could read through in the hours available. He produced a number of tweets, here are just a few of them: (Snip) Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are gleeful, as they should be. They are in an enviable position: they don’t have to win elections

TAMPA — After a nearly three month-long search, Tampa police say they’ve arrested the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash sparked by an apparent drag race on a busy East Tampa thoroughfare. Investigators said Jeff Desange, 19, was behind the wheel of a red Ford Mustang on Jan. 5 when he crashed into a BMW he was racing on N 40th Street. Police said his apparent challenger, Jorey G. Christophe, 28, of Tampa, died in the fiery crash and a male passenger suffered injuries when he was partially ejected from the vehicle. Officers arrived at Desange’s Garrison Street apartment Thursday night to

Video of Uber´s self-driving car killing Elaine Herzberg is available on YouTube. It will--or at least should--produce shock waves in the culture. The Silicon Valley cult of Artificial Intelligence (AI) -- and the related cult of brain science -- is a main source of today´s cultural despair. If the brain is merely a machine that white-coated lab techs can measure and manipulate like any other machine, and if machines can be programmed to emulate the human brain, then human existence has no purpose. Our destiny is fixed in the same way that the paths of the planets and the orbits

With one presidential decision, America gained one of its boldest National Security Advisers, and lost one of its best cable news guests. Roughly an hour after John Bolton, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., was named as the replacement for the outgoing adviser H.R. McMaster, he appeared on Fox News with “The Story” host Martha MacCallum, who was loaded with great questions for a man known for his blunt assessments of the world scene and sharp views on the policies that best serve America. She learned quickly that the new position changes everything for Bolton. Amid stories of inner-circle discord over President Trump’s

A Broward County judge set a $500,000 bond Tuesday for Zachary Cruz, who was caught skateboarding Monday on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School grounds where brother Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people in February. Prosecutors asked for $750,000. The standard bond for trespassing on school grounds is $25 and Cruz, 18, had paid it, his bond attorney said. "He’s being held because of who he’s related to, not because of what he did," Cruz’s bond attorney argued before Judge Kim Theresa Mollica. Mollica, who also handled Nikolas Cruz’s bond hearing, said Zachary Cruz’s Lake Worth home is to be searched for guns;

The Southern California teacher who called U.S. service members "the lowest of our low" in a video that triggered widespread condemnation - including blunt criticism from the White House - has been fired. The El Rancho Unified School District held a Tuesday night vote to determine the fate of Gregory Salcido, a history teacher at El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, southeast of Los Angeles. The board’s decision, nearly two months after his comments went viral, was a unanimous: Salcido is out, said Board of Education President Aurora Villon. Salcido has been on unpaid leave since January, and Villon said he would

BREAKING: President Trump signed the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill Friday despite an earlier threat to veto the legislation due to the lack of border wall funding and a fix for DACA. EARLIER STORY: President Trump sparked fears of an impending government shutdown Friday by threatening to veto a $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress, citing the lack of a deal that would include protection for illegal immigrants brought to the country as children in return for funding for a wall. Trump tweeted that he was considering the veto, saying that recipients of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood

On March 16, I spent the day with my family waiting to hear whether I would be fired, after 21 years in the FBI and one day before I qualified for my long-planned, earned retirement. As day turned to night, I had a lot of time to reflect on how it would feel to be separated from the organization I loved — and led — and the mission that has been the central focus of my professional life. Despite all the preparation for the worst-case scenario, I still felt disoriented and sick to my stomach. Around 10 p.m., a friend called

David Hogg has become the face of the Parkland high school shooting, eclipsing the tragic memories of the 17 victims who were murdered by Nicolas Cruz. Hogg has been rabidly elevated as a media celebrity by the mainstream press, who found a willing mouthpiece to push their anti-Second Amendment agenda. In a profanity-laced, rambling interview with The Outline, Hogg slammed the NRA and pro-Second Amendment politicians, calling them “sick f**kers.” (Video warning: language) The Outline hosts treated Hogg as if her were a Constitutional scholar and gun expert rolled into one. President Trump signed the 1.2 trillion dollar Omnibus bill today with open frustration over both the process and the product of that bill. (Snip) What wasn’t said was how the Republican and Democrat leadership worked together to force POTUS Trump’s hand and create a voter backlash they hope will fracture Mr. Trump’s base of support among millions of Americans. “How could he sign this bill?” said one Trump supporter on Twitter. “WTF??? President Donald Trump yanked the government back to the brink of a shutdown on Friday morning with a tweet threatening “a VETO” of a $1.3 trillion spending bill that Congress had cleared just hours earlier. Trump’s declaration of a possible veto — citing the spending bill’s lack of full funding for his border wall and attention to undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers — comes as many lawmakers who would have to override his rejection or pass a stopgap funding measure are already on the way out of Washington for a two-week recess. The president’s top aides said Thursday he would
