An Alzheimer´s drug might be
able to repair cavities in teeth

New York Daily News, by Ariel Scotti

A recent discovery about an Alzheimer´s drug may lead to the end of cavity fillings in teeth as we know them. Scientists discovered the drug, Tideglusib, promoted natural tooth regrowth during its clinical trials on mice, which led to total repair of cavities. They learned the drug stimulates stem cells in teeth, which creates new dentine — the substance beneath tooth enamel that´s eroded by decay when a cavity forms. When the researchers realized the drug was promoting tooth regeneration, they soaked collagen fillers in Tideglusib, inserted them into cavities and saw the tooth craters disappear within six weeks. After the collagen

If this pans out, let´s hope the manufacturer and the dentists "find a way" to make the treatment affordable.

The American Dental Association will put an end to this nonsense faster than hillary can switch to a southern drawl.

#1, are you kidding? They’ll embrace it. Dentists are the only doctors who keep trying to put themselves out of business.

Compared to the rest of the world, American dentistry is a generation ahead. I think it’s because they stayed out of government-funded health care. If doctors had followed their example, medical care would be a lot farther advanced, and much cheaper.

And before you ask: I’m not a dentist.

I have a fair number of filling in my teeth from the age of a child. I suspect many, perhaps most, were unnecessary. I hate to say it, but I think most dentists are dishonest money grubbers.

#7, I have had many dentists, moved around a lot as a kid. One Navy dentist saved a bunch of my teeth caved in in an accident. Another saved my life when I had a serious abcess, 25 yrs later, delayed effects from the first event.

I have had only one money grubber, visited him twice, never went back. My current dentist is extremely skilled, very honest and a great guy. He was selected by my previous dentist to take over the practice when he retired, and he chose well. He has helped me keep all my original teeth, even after some pretty impressive trauma as a teen.

A great boom to anyone with teeth. But will the drug treatment cost more than a filling? I hope not.

Mountain View, Calif. — At a divisive time for U.S. immigration policies, a California school board has decided to name a new elementary school after an award-winning journalist who disclosed in 2011 that he had been living in the U.S. illegally. The Mountain View Whisman School District board voted Thursday to name the as-yet-unopened school after Jose Antonio Vargas, bypassing Steve Jobs and other technology giants with ties to the San Francisco Bay Area’s high-tech Silicon Valley. “We wanted to pick someone who embodied the values of what you can do with an education, as Jose does

FBI Agent Peter Strzok put the Trump-Russia investigation on a fast track during the 2016 election season at the same time he was sending text messages to his lover condemning the Republican presidential candidate as an “idiot” and vowing to “stop” him. Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, in a voluminous report, singled out as troubling Mr. Strzok’s decision to move quickly from working on Hillary Clinton’s email case to investigating Mr. Trump. “In assessing Strzok’s decision to prioritize the Russia investigation … these text messages led us to conclude that we did not have confidence that Strzok’s decision was

Italy’s interior minister has sparked a new migration crisis in the Mediterranean by barring two rescue boats from bringing refugees to shore, a week after the Aquarius was prevented from docking. “Two other ships with the flag of Netherlands, Lifeline and Seefuchs, have arrived off the coast of Libya, waiting for their load of human beings abandoned by the smugglers,” Matteo Salvini, the leader of the anti-immigrant party the League, wrote on his Facebook page. “These gentlemen know that Italy no longer wants to be complicit in the business of illegal immigration, and therefore will have to look for other ports

Google is struggling to retain their black and Hispanic employees, an annual diversity report reveals. The fifth annual diversity report also shows ´dismal´ improvement in hiring minorities and women. For the first time, Google´s report provided data on attrition, or how many people left the company, with rates for black and Latinx employees being the highest in 2017. ´A clear low light, obviously, in the data is the attrition for black and Latinx men and women in the U.S.,´ Google´s chief diversity and inclusion officer Danielle Brown told TechCrunch. ´That´s an area where we´re going to be laser-focused,´ she added.

Milwaukee — A Wisconsin woman accused of trying to plan terrorist attacks on social media leads a lonely life and sought companionship online, but she never posed a real threat, her attorney told a judge Friday. But federal magistrate Judge Nancy Joseph said the allegations against 45-year-old Waheba Issa Dais were concerning enough that she must be held without bond pending her trial. Prosecutors allege the mother of seven tried to recruit people to carry out attacks for the Islamic State, and provided them with information on how to make explosives and poisons. The FBI said its investigation found that Dais used

Former first lady Laura Bush tore into the Trump administration for separating migrant families at the border, calling the “zero tolerance” policy “cruel” and “immoral.” Bush penned an op-ed for the Washington Post, which was published Sunday night as public outcry over the hundreds of children in detention centers intensified. “I live in a border state,” Bush wrote. “I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.” Bush’s commentary comes as more images and accounts from inside the detention centers have

The state of Illinois has approved $224 million to pay for street and transportation projects in Chicago´s South Side neighborhood around the Obama Presidential Center site, $199 million of which will fall directly on the shoulders of Illinois taxpayers. Gov. Bruce Rauner signed into law the legislature´s budget on June 4, which included $174 million for road work in and around Jackson Park — where the 235-foot-tall building would be located — and another $50 million to renovate an above-ground rail stop two miles away. “Bringing the Obama Presidential Center to Chicago took leadership and vision, and we are gratified that our

Christian leaders across the country have taken issue with Attorney General Jeff Session´s usage of the Bible as justification of his policy that is separating thousand of immigrant families at the border. Sessions cited Romans 13 to attempt to justify how separating families was ordained by God because ´orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves and protect the weak and lawful.´ For religious leaders who still weren´t pleased with his usage of scripture, he offered them to ´speak up strongly to urge anyone who would come here to apply lawfully, to wait their turn and not violate the law.´

Most of what happens inside Apple Park, the iPhone company´s stunning new headquarters, is top secret. But Apple CEO Tim Cook recently disclosed one new detail about the work environment: Everyone gets a standing desk. "We have given all of our employees, 100%, standing desks. If you can stand for a while, then sit, and so on and so forth, it´s much better for your lifestyle," Cook said in a recent interview with The Carlyle Group´s David Rubenstein published on Wednesday. The White House called MSNBC´s Joe Scarborough´s comments comparing the actions of immigration law enforcement officers at US border crossings to those of Nazis ´appalling´ on Friday. Scarborough pointed out while hosting ´Morning Joe´ on Friday that federal agents at US borders have reportedly used tactics similar to those used by Nazi soldiers during World War II to separate Jewish families, in saying children are being taken to ´shower´ and never returning with them. ´This is the type of inflammatory and unacceptable rhetoric that puts a target on the backs of our great law enforcement,´ White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley
