"The Newsroom Feels Embarrassed": Backfires

Re-invents the Paper´s Opinion Pages

Vanity Fair, by Joe Pompeo

I´ve lost the capacity to gauge the opprobrium—what’s irrational versus what’s a reasonable amount of Internet outrage these days,” said James Bennet, editorial-page editor of The New York Times, and someone talked about as a future contender for the Times’s top newsroom job. “Look,” he went on, “we’re recruiting different types of writers than we have traditionally, and I’ll make some mistakes. It’s just gonna happen.” It was early Thursday afternoon, February 22, and Bennet had just finished the second in a trio of internal town-hall meetings that he was hosting to quell brewing discontent over the Opinion section. The previous

This article lost me at "...damaging the paper´s credibility."

What credibility? That ship sailed decades ago?

The only people that consider this fish wrapping of a newspaper "credible" are the 30% of people who are "Never-Cons" and are only interested in an echo chamber circle-j%#k?

"Backfires and explosions"? Sounds like me after a double chimichanga.

Their ´opinion´ pages are a disgusting vile pile of anti-Trump and anti-American screeds. But go ahead, re-arrange those deck chairs; some of them aren´t quite straight...

#1 I think that happened in 1931 when Walter Duranty reported on the Soviet Union and denied that there was widespread famine and mass starvation. The NYTs have been a big supporter of communism ever since. Despicable rag! Can’t wait until it fails.

About five paragraphs in a very sad and irritating "Wahhhh-wahhh-waaaaahhh" sound began in my head. This is the worst kind of corporate navel gazing I have ever read. I quit reading it out of self preservation.

Apparently their Opinion page is insufficiently extremist left.

Who cares?

All they write is 100% propaganda, whether dressed up as news or marked opinion, all lefty propaganda, all subjects, all the time.

One of the things that motivated my old friend Andrew Breitbart was his righteous indignation at being called a racist. That’s a running theme in his book, Righteous Indignation. “Andrew Breitbart despised racism,” his friend Ben Shapiro told me. “He took pride in rejecting racism and fighting it tooth and nail. He saw it as a form of bullying. Nothing devastated him more personally than being maligned as racist.” He would also advise conservatives not to be deterred if their opponents on the left unfairly called them racists — something he rightly believed happened all the time. Indeed, one of the

Rex — or should we say Mr. Tillerson: Tuesday might have been a bit of a downer for you in Washington with the president dismissing you as Secretary of State. But now that you have the freedom to consider new opportunities and speak freely, our editorial board is urging you to come home to North Texas, to the beautiful home you and wife Renda have in Fort Worth. We could use your high-level talents. Fort Worth is in a rebuilding period, intent on competing more aggressively to attract the economic development interests that can provide cutting edge jobs and higher wagers. We want

How To Lose An Election In Texas

There are two ways to guarantee you’ll lose a statewide election in Texas: campaign for abortion or campaign against guns. Texas Democrats accomplished the first in 2014, when Wendy Davis lost the governor’s race to Greg Abbott by 20 points. Now they’re determined to do the second. Beto O’Rourke, the photogenic Democratic congressman from El Paso hoping to unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in November, declared at a SXSW event Monday that there’s no reason an AR-15 should be sold to a civilian. According to Politico’s Michael Calderone, O’Rourke, who’s not shy about swearing on the campaign trail, added, “I have

Bitter clingers. The 47 percent who are takers. You’d think after Barack Obama and Mitt Romney got burned for coining these appellations, ambitious pols would learn not to talk about the opposing party’s voters that way. Both those comments were said before private audiences and leaked out. But Hillary did them better by offering her diagnosis of the “basket of deplorables” at a public campaign event. And she refuses to learn even still. At a conference in India yesterday she confidently explained the 2016 election this way: I won the places that represent two-thirds of America’s gross domestic product. . . .

The State Department said that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was informed of his own firing by President Donald Trump´s Tuesday morning tweet announcing the news. The secretary said that he was "unaware of the reason" for his firing, which he said he did not discuss with President Donald Trump before Trump announced his ouster on Tuesday morning. "The Secretary had every intention of staying because of the critical progress made in national security," Under-Secretary of State Steve Goldstein said in a statement. "The Secretary did not speak to the President and is unaware of the reason, but he is

Mike Schultz will have the honor of being the U.S. flag bearer at the Paralympics opening ceremony in Pyeongchang on Thursday. As the International Olympics Committee states, the individual who takes on this meaningful role embodies the nation´s values, Olympic and Paralympic ideals, and is an inspiration for future generations. Schultz checks off all of these boxes. As a snocross racer growing up, he was dubbed "Monster Mike" for his fearlessness on the tracks. But in 2008, his world turned upside down after a devastating accident cost him his left leg. A decade later, he has turned tragedy into triumph—he´s

Democrats dream of turning Texas into a blue state, thereby cementing the far left’s hold on America for the foreseeable future. They hope to make progress toward that goal this year, and they were counting on a blue wave of enraged liberals to emerge in Tuesday’s primaries as a harbinger of victory in November. They even hope that their man Beto O’Rourke can drive Ted Cruz out of the Senate. But no such blue wave emerged on Tuesday. True, just over one million votes were cast in the Democratic Senate primary, which O’Rourke won with 62% of the vote. But well

Hillary Clinton will bring home a most undesired souvenir from India - a fractured wrist. The former Secretary of State injured her right hand on Tuesday, after slipping in a bathtub at the palace where she was staying in Jodhpur. Doctors were called to the Umaid Bhawan Palace and diagnosed the 70-year-old with a sprain, advising her to rest which forced her to cancel plans to visit the Mehrangarh Fort that evening. But the pain only worsened, and by Wednesday morning she decided to get her hand checked out at Goyal Hospital. Doctors there administered a CT Scan and an X-ray of Clinton´s wrist,

Sheet happens. Two days after a nasty fall in a hotel bathtub left Hillary Clinton with a broken wrist, the former Secretary of State was spotted making the best of a bad situation while continuing her tour of India. Hillary was seen in Jaipur on Thursday where she appeared to be adopting an out-of-sight and out-of-mind approach to her recent injury by wearing a kurta that had been customized to make one sleeve longer than other. To achieve this, the loose and flowing top was wrapped tightly around Hillary´s torso, transforming the once comfortable piece into a more constricting look complete

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe on Thursday made a final pitch to the Justice Department about why he should not be fired just 72 hours before his retirement, leaving Attorney General Jeff Sessions to decide the matter with a deadline rapidly approaching. McCabe did not meet with Sessions, who was traveling Thursday, but with other senior officials, including Scott Schools, the most senior career attorney in the department. He arrived around 1 p.m. and departed four hours later. The decision could be consequential for McCabe´s financial future, as if he is fired, he could lose significant retirement benefits. The

The pedestrian bridge that collapsed at Florida International University´s Miami-Dade campus today, killing several people, was funded with $11.4 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation´s Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program. The TIGER program has come under repeated fire for awarding money based on politics rather than merit. (Snip) In 2014, the GAO released a report that was highly critical of how DOT handled the TIGER V grants, which included money for the FIU pedestrian bridge project. The report said DOT advanced projects with lower technical ratings in lieu of those with higher technical ratings and upgraded the

"I have received a number of letters from Palestinian academics," Stephen Hawking said in his declaration of support for the BDS movement. "They are unanimous that I should respect the boycott. In view of this, I must withdraw from the conference." The conference was in 2013, in Jerusalem, and hosted by Shimon Peres, an Israeli leader who spent his career as an indefatigable advocate of peace. It didn´t matter. Hawking joined the BDS movement because he never met a fashionable far-left cause he didn´t like, and Israel-bashing was one of his favorites. Senator Jeff Flake loves to lecture. Jeff Flake especially loves to lecture Republicans. The good news is he will no longer be a senator next year. The bad news is this d**che will either be a regular on CNN or MSNBC. Flake spoke at St. Anselm college this week. He lectured Republicans on global warming junk science. "“Republicans as a party need to be more accepting of reality. Climate change is real, and it is happening.”
